Black Friday Best Buy deals see smartphones go for cheap

If you are rather tight on your finances at this point in time and yet cannot wait to get a new smartphone just to keep up with the Joneses? It is a good thing then that Black Friday deals are just around the corner, and it seems that ads by Best Buy has leaked onto the Internet, and among the more attractive deals, they include the AT&T HTC One X which will be made available for free. For those who want the Samsung Galaxy S3 on AT&T, you will have to fork out a mere $99.99 for this premium smartphone, and for folks who do not want to hand over a single penny just yet to Verizon Wireless has another choice – the Samsung Stratosphere 2.

If you want the Samsung Galaxy S3 while rocking on to the Sprint network, then it can be yours for an even cheaper $49.99. Needless to say, all of those handsets with the pricing details would mean you will have to tie yourself down to a new two year contract. Of course, there are also older smartphones being made available, perhaps to clear out a burgeoning inventory, right?

Best Buy pricing once again pegs Nokia Lumia 920 at $150 oncontract

Seems like just a few days ago that Best Buy inadvertently outed its pricing of the Lumia 920. While the company eventually pulled its listing, its pricing for the upcoming Windows Phone is looking more solid than ever. You see, a shopper in Naples, Fla., was recently able to snag a photo of an in-store display that once again pegs the Lumia 920 at $150 with a two-year contract or $600 outright. Keep in mind that Best Buy’s pricing may not be the same as AT&T’s own offering, but it’s worth putting this on your radar in the buildup to its debut — especially if the Smurf shirt crew manages to come in cheaper.

Update: Following AT&T’s official announcement this morning, Best Buy is following suit by pricing the Lumia 920 at $99. Company representatives tell us the smartphone will be available for pre-order at all Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile locations beginning tomorrow, and the Lumia 920 will be available for purchase this Friday.

Best Buy listing reminds us that the LG Spectrum 2 is still on its way to Verizon

DNP Best Buy ad reminds us that Verizon's LG Spectrum 2 is still on its way

A few months back an anonymous tipster gave us a candid look at the Verizon-bound LG Spectrum 2, but after a couple more sightings here and there, the trail eventually went cold and Big Red’s unannounced smartphone fled back into seclusion. However, a recent website posting by Best Buy has brought this mobile Sasquatch out of hiding and back into the mainstream media. While this listing is mostly a refresh confirming our source’s shared specs, it notes the Spectrum 2’s unsubsidized price as $650. Now, before you would-be buyers start directing your browser to the retailer’s webpage in hopes of making a quick purchase, it should be noted that the device is listed as “sold out online.” Still, we can’t help but notice the pictured device’s homescreen carries a date of November 3rd, which could be a nod to when the Spectrum 2 might officially show up on store shelves.

Best Buy Insignia Flex tablet product page is now up

It was just last week when we talked up a new tablet from the folks over at Best Buy, where it was dubbed as the Insignia Flex. This particular tablet has its very own product page now, carrying along with it a 9.7″ capacitive touch-panel display at 1024 x 768 resolution that will place it in the same league as the Apple iPad – in terms of screen size, at least. Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich is the operating system of choice, while a 1GHz TI OMAP 4428 processor should be decent enough to get it going for most tasks.

Other hardware specifications include 8GB of internal memory, a 2-cell lithium-polymer battery, built-in 802.11b/g/n wireless LAN, a 2-megapixel shooter up front, and a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes. Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity is thrown into the mix as well for wireless connectivity to accessories such as a portable keyboard. The entire Insignia Flex tips the scales at 1.5lbs and measures 0.5” thin, and will cost you $249.99. Interested in this mid-range tablet?

$150 AT&T Nokia Lumia 920 priced to undercut rivals (but not HTC)

Nokia’s Lumia 920 has been prematurely priced up for its US-exclusive launch on AT&T, with Best Buy spilling the competitive costs for the Windows Phone 8 handset. The 32GB 4G smartphone will be $149.99 with a new, two-year AT&T agreement, according to Best Buy’s listing, while unactivated it will set shoppers back $599.99. However, even undercutting most mainstream smartphones by fifty bucks won’t make it the cheapest Windows Phone 8 flagship.

The Windows Phone 8X by HTC, for instance, is currently listed at $99.99 with a new, two-year agreement from the same retailer. It’s unactivated, unsubsidized price is the same $599.99, but HTC is obviously being more aggressive than its Finnish counterpart.

At $100, that pits the HTC 8X against Apple’s iPhone 4S, though the iOS smartphone has twice the storage of its 8GB Windows Phone rival. Considering HTC also opted not to give the 8X a memory card slot, instead preserving the unbroken lines of its unibody plastic casing, that could prove to be a considerable limitation, even with Microsoft’s SkyDrive cloud storage push.

The Lumia 920 lacks a microSD slot too, but at least gets 32GB of internal capacity. Best Buy has no listings for the smartphone’s accessories, such as the wireless charging plates, though based on UK pricing we’re not expecting them to come cheaply.

Best Buy has AT&T Nokia Lumia 920 and HTC 8X available for pre-order

All right, so the dust is more or less settling at the moment while Android and iOS fight it out at the top, leaving third place to the likes of Microsoft with their Windows Phone 8 and RIM with the BlackBerry 10. While the latter has yet to roll out just yet, Microsoft is faring far better with Windows Phone 8 from initial impressions, and two of their handsets – the Nokia Lumia 920 and the HTC Windows Phone 8X from AT&T, are now up for pre-order over at Best Buy if you are interested to try something new apart from Android or iOS.

The particular pre-order advertisement went live earlier this morning, where the Nokia Lumia 920 was listed to come in the following colors – yellow, red, white, cyan and black, retailing for $149.99 a pop for a new activation, but if you want to remain unshackled, then it will cost you a far higher price point at $599.99.

As for the HTC 8X, it will be offered in purple for $99.99 with a new activation, and in terms of paying for an unactivated version, you will also have to fork out a similar amount as the Lumia 920, that is, $599.99. Shipping commences when available.

Best Buy offering preorders for Nokia Lumia 920 and HTC 8X for $14999 and $9999 under contract

Nokia and HTC’s upcoming Windows Phone 8 flagships are still on the standard release path: announcement, federal approval and now, pre-order. Keeping device availability tucked firmly under its hat, Best Buy is now offering Nokia’s Lumia 920 and the HTC 8X for pre-sale, priced at $149.99 and $99.99, respectively. Early buyers have options, too: the Lumia 920 is kitted out in red, blue, yellow, black and white shells. Fashionistas with a flair for purple, however, will need to stick to HTC’s hardware. Unfortunately, you don’t get that much choice — Best Buy’s pre-orders don’t balk at the devices’ AT&T exclusivity. The retailer doesn’t say when devices are going to ship, but we imagine early adopters won’t have to wait too long.

Update: The Lumia 920 has disappeared from Best Buy’s listings, while the 8X remains. This seems to suggest that pre-order stock for Nokia’s new flagship has sold out, but given the short time it was available, let’s hope that other issues are to blame and the absence is only temporary.

Best Buy Insignia Flex tablet to retail for $239 onwards

Best Buy must have taken an envious look towards Amazon’s direction, where Amazon did pretty well for themselves with the Kindle range of tablets. Having said that, Best Buy decided to jump into the tablet market with their Android-powered Insignia Flex, with a price point that ranges from $239 to $259. This is a rather narrow band actually, and it remains to be seen whether the Insignia Flex is able to make a name for itself against the iPad as well as the Kindle family.

Basically, the main rivals of the Insignia Flex would be Amazon’s Kindle Fire HD tablet, the Nexus 7 from Google as well as other Android-powered tablets in the market, especially those from Samsung, and perhaps even the new iPad mini that is tipped to be announced later next week. It is reported by Reuters that the Insignia Flex will arrive in stores this coming November 11th, and will obviously be a Best Buy exclusive. What kind of hardware can we expect at a sub-$300 price point? We’re looking at a dual-core 1GHz processor, a 9.7” display, and a 10-hour battery life, all crammed into a body that tips the scales at 1.45 pounds.
