Bethesda Teases Unannounced Game Through Vine Video

Bethesda Teases Unannounced Game Through Vine Video

We know Bethesda is planning to make some more noise this year especially considering the team behind Skyrim will be moving on from the game. The teasing looks to have officially started as Bethesda just published a cryptic Vine video of an unannounced game earlier today.

The Vine video Bethesda published shows four scenes: two of the scenes feature barbed wire moving in a circular motion, then a sheet music can be seen, one of which includes Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Air on the G-String.” We’re not sure what Bethesda is teasing in its Vine video, but one thing we do know is that it isn’t related to Fallout 4 as Bethesda’s president of marketing and PR Pete Hines squashed that thought right out of our heads. The Elder Scrolls: Arena Could Arrive On Android

The Elder Scrolls: Arena Could Arrive On AndroidThere are whispers that The Elder Scrolls: Arena might eventually be remade for the iOS or Android platforms, if the new Australian rating listing for said title could be believed. Bethesda will naturally be behind this remake of the classic DOS role playing game, and it will come in High Definition quality graphics in order to keep up with the times if all of it were to be true. Of course, let us assume that everything else is going to go on as usual, will the title be as engaging as ever, and will there be any changes made to the overall gameplay?

This new listing of The Elder Scrolls: Arena was spotted by games.on.net, where it has already received an M rating, where it has also been noted to be a multi-platform game. The original The Elder Scrolls: Arena arrived on the DOS platform in 1994, and many years later, it has culminated in Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. What are some of the classic game remakes that you would like to see on the mobile platform?

Skyrim Will Not Receive Additional DLC As Team Will Be ‘Moving On’

Skyrim Will Not Receive Additional DLC As Team Will Be Moving On

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim released on Nov 11, 2011, and since its release, Bethesda has released three additional pieces of downloadable content, and it may look like that will be it for the game’s developer as their latest blog post hints at the end of additional content for the game.

Bethesda’s Skyrim team wrote in a blog post announcing they’ll be moving on to “our next adventure.” In the post, they say they’ve spent the past year and a half working on additional content for Skyrim which include game updates, a Creation Kit, Steam Workshop, Kinect support and, of course, the game’s additional pieces of DLC. “Parts of our team have also been in pre-production on our next major project, and that game is at the point where it requires the studio’s full attention to make it our biggest and best work yet.” (more…)

Bethesda Plans To Make More Noise This Year, Possibly With Fallout 4

Bethesda Plans To Make More Noise This Year, Possibly With Fallout 4Are you looking forward to playing Fallout 4 possibly this year? If you are, there is a good chance that Bethesda could be announcing the game sometime later this year, possibly at E3. This was hinted at by the studio’s vice president, Pete Hines, who revealed that the publisher was planning on making more noise this year. Hines stated that games such as Elder Scrolls Online and the Dishonored DLC have already been revealed, meaning that the studio will be announcing “new stuff” and that it will be worthy enough for gamers to sit up and take notice.

While he did not explicitly state that Fallout 4 is on the list, many are speculating that it might be that simply because the game is due for an announcement, not to mention that the voice actor for Fallout 3’s Three Dog hinted at the game on his Twitter account, claiming that he was given permission to do so. Assuming that is the case, fans of the Fallout series will definitely have something to look forward to.

Skyrim PS3 DLC European release dates outed by Bethesda

Last week, Bethesda announced North American release dates for the long-awaited collection of Skyrim PS3 DLC, but unfortunately, it didn’t have any news to give about European release dates. That all changed today, as Bethesda has updated its original post with release dates for Europe. As is usually the case for DLC, they’ll be hitting European PSN one day after the North America release.

9tTOn

This means Dragonborn will go live on February 13, with Hearthfire and Dawnguard following afterward with respective release dates of February 20 and February 27. That isn’t very bad at all, provided you can ignore the fact that Skyrim DLC was missing from PSN for months while Xbox 360 and PC players enjoyed it. Unfortunately, Bethesda says those with German, French, Italian, or Spanish editions of the game will have to wait a bit longer, as its currently finalizing a few things with Sony.

We still don’t know the exact cause of these delays, but we do know that Bethesda struggled quite a bit in bringing Skyrim‘s DLC to PS3. This, naturally, got a lot of fans upset, with many continuously asking Bethesda and VP of PR and Marketing Pete Hines when the DLC was going to arrive. Until just recently, Bethesda wasn’t able to provide answers to those questions, making fans even more angry.

For now, these problems seem to be solved, but if there’s more DLC on the way, there’s no telling if Bethesda will experience the same problems. In any case, it’s good that Bethesda finally figured out its issues, since at one point it was suggesting that PS3 may never see Dawnguard if it couldn’t figure out how to get the DLC working. Are you going to buy Skyrim‘s DLC when it releases on PSN, or is this a case of too little, too late?

Skyrim PS3 DLC release dates revealed

Back when Bethesda revealed that all Skyrim DLC will finally be coming to PS3, it unfortunately didn’t give us any release dates to look forward to. Today the studio announced when each piece of Skyrim DLC will be hitting the console, and eager players will be happy to know that the flood starts in less than two weeks. Interestingly, Dragonborn will be the first to release on PS3, launching on February 12.

GbSsZ

Bethesda will release Hearthfire, the DLC that tasks players will buying up a plot of land and collecting the materials to build a house, one week later on February 19. The trio of releases wraps up with the launch of Dawnguard on February 26. Dawnguard was the first Skyrim DLC to launch on Xbox 360 and PC, giving players a chance to join up with the vampire hunting group of the same name or throw in with the vampires instead.

Of the three, Dragonborn is the largest and seems to be most popular. Perhaps the only proper expansion to Skyrim, it adds the island of Solstheim to the game, and takes players through a story line that involves meeting the first Dragonborn. All of that extra content comes with a pretty hefty price tag, however, with Dragonborn costing a pretty significant $20.

Bethesda has struggled in bringing Skyrim DLC to PS3, leaving players to wait months while those on Xbox 360 and PC received regular DLC releases. Possibly as a way to make peace with understandably angry PS3 owners, Bethesda has announced that each DLC will be 50% off for the first week after release. Unfortunately, the dates announced today are only for North America, with Bethesda saying it’s working with Sony Europe to “finalize certification.” We’ll let you know when Bethesda announces those European release dates, so keep it tuned here to SlashGear for more.

Skyrim Dragonborn DLC now available for pre-purchase on Steam

It’s nearly time for Dragonborn to launch on PC, and eager Skyrim fans will be pleased to know that its now available for pre-order now on Steam. Skyrim‘s latest DLC went up for pre-order this weekend, a little more than a weekend before it becomes available for download. As far as we can tell, there isn’t any bonus you get for pre-ordering, aside from getting the payment part of the transaction out of the way early.

IJGXv

Therefore, it’s really only worth pre-ordering if you’re sure this is something you want to buy anyway. Dragonborn will set you back $19.99, and though that price seems a little steep, Xbox 360 players have said plenty of good things about the expansion. In it, you’ll be leaving the lands of Skyrim and adventuring through Solstheim, an island located to the north of Tamriel (specifically, Solstheim is north of Morrowind, where the third game in the series takes place).

While there, you’ll come face-to-face with the first Dragonborn, collecting new weapons and items and fighting new enemies along the way. If you’re a big Skyrim fan, many will tell you that Dragonborn is worth the rather steep cost of admission. At the very least, it seems to be a more worthwhile add-on than Dawnguard and Hearthfire were.

Dragonborn will be available for PC on February 5, 2013. After months and months of waiting for some kind of DLC offering, Dragonborn will also be releasing for PS3 next month, along with Hearthfire and Dawnguard. Are you planning on picking up Dragonborn when it becomes available on PC?

Elder Scrolls Online closed beta registration opens as new trailer drops

The Elder Scrolls Online is set to launch sometime this year, and there are some players who understandably skeptical that the game can satisfy series fans. Just the same, there are some players who think that the this is finally the multiplayer game so many Elder Scrolls fans have been asking about for years. Regardless of which camp you fall in – skeptic or believer – ZeniMax Online Studios has issued a call for for beta testers, so you can net a chance to test out a pre-release build of the game.

ElderScrollsOnlineimg

The beta is of the closed variety, which means that you’ll need to sign a non-disclosure agreement to participate. There isn’t any word on when the beta will officially kick off, which means that it might be a little while before players find out if they were accepted. While you won’t know if you got in right away, there is a little sidebar that pops up on the side of the application that gives you an idea of your chances of being accepted as you fill in information. You probably shouldn’t take that assessment as truth, but it’s a nice feature to have anyway.

Today also saw the release of a new cinematic trailer for the Elder Scrolls Online, this one coming in at nearly six minutes long. Being a cinematic, the trailer naturally doesn’t show any gameplay, but instead a massive battle scene. The battle is certainly impressive, but at this point, we have a feeling that fans are craving more gameplay footage. In any case, have a look at the latest Elder Scrolls Online trailer below.

If you’re interested in signing up for the closed beta, you can head over to the Elder Scrolls Online official site to do so. Keep in mind that there are a lot of people looking to sign up, so you may not be able to submit your application right away. Did any of sign up for the Elder Scrolls Online beta today?

All Skyrim DLC coming to PlayStation 3 next month

Downloadable content for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is finally coming to the PlayStation 3. The game’s developer, Bethesda, announced today that all three expansion DLC packs for the popular RPG will be arriving next month, beginning with Dragonborn, while Hearthfire and Dawnguard will follow shortly after.

skyrim-dlc

In addition to the DLC release, Bethesda will also out the 1.8 update for Skyrim on PS3 next month, just ahead of Dragonborn’s launch in February. While no specific release dates for any of the expansions were disclosed, PC gamers will get the Dragonborn DLC on February 5. However, all of the expansions will be 50% off during their launch on the PlayStation Network.

It’s important to point out that the Xbox 360 has had all three DLC packs for some time now. Dawnguard was released in June, Hearthfire in September, and Dragonborn in December. Bethesda said that the delay for PS3 was completely their fault, and while they didn’t mention any specifics about the problem, they were destined to fix it and make things right for gamers.

We are curious to know just how many gamers are still loyal to a game that hasn’t seen any new content in over a year, but the developer’s heavy discount of the DLC packs when they eventually release will hopefully spark the fun back into the game, and we’ll hopefully see more PS3 gamers get back into the groove of things.

Gaming hopes and predictions for 2013

2012 was a great year for gaming, but I have a feeling that 2013 will be even better. We’ve got a lot of exciting game releases coming up in the next few months, and if we’re lucky, we might have a new hardware reveal or two as well. Of course, we won’t know for sure what happens until we’re further into 2013, but that doesn’t mean we can’t drop some predictions in the meantime. Read on to see gaming predictions and even a few hopes for 2013!

Elderscrollsonline-w580

First and foremost, we have the obvious question about new hardware. With Nintendo releasing the Wii U back in November, it’s now up to Sony and Microsoft to really get the next generation of gaming underway. While I’ve been convinced for a while that Microsoft is plotting to reveal the next Xbox sometime this year, to be honest with you, I couldn’t figure out whether Sony was going to announce the next PlayStation this year or wait for 2014. Then Sony started sending out press invites to an event it’s holding at the end of February.

PS4concept

The immediate thought is that Sony will officially pull the veil off the next PlayStation at this event, and that could very well happen. I think Sony wants to get the jump on Microsoft in the next generation, and I also think neither company wants to leave Nintendo alone as the only company with a “next-gen” console on the market for very long. Sony as a whole has been struggling a bit lately, but its games division has been performing relatively well – getting a new console on the market before Microsoft does could mean great things for Sony’s pocketbook. Does this mean that Sony will reveal the PlayStation 4 (or whatever it’ll be called) at this event? I’m not willing to call it either way. Here’s what I am willing to say, though: by the end of the year, both Sony and Microsoft will have revealed their next consoles, and we’ll have one (maybe both) available by the time 2014 rolls around.

image001152-580x353 (1)

While a new PlayStation reveal seems likely for this event, there’s something almost certain to happen there. I think Sony will use this event to announce a price drop on the PlayStation Vita. The Vita hasn’t been performing well at all, and Sony needs to do something if it wants to have any hope of competing against the 3DS. If no one is buying the handheld, no one will want to develop games for it, which in turn means that there’s only one thing to do: cut the price. A Vita price cut has to come this year if Sony wants to stay relevant in the handheld space, the earlier the better. So, it makes sense that Sony will announce such a price cut at an event where its bound to get a lot of press attention.

If announcements of new hardware are coming this year, then it stands to reason that we’ll see a bunch of new properties revealed as well. Of course, 2013 will be chock-full of sequels just like 2012, 2011, and 2010 were, but I think a lot of the big studios are going to step up to bring us exciting new games to play on the new hardware. If you’re suffering from sequel fatigue like so many of us are, just hold on, because once those consoles are revealed, we’ll more than likely see a whole bunch of new IP that we can really sink our teeth into.

smariogalaxy

Now for game-specific predictions: I think Nintendo isn’t going to waste any time introducing the world to a brand new 3D Mario game for the Wii U. New Super Mario Bros. U is great and all, but it doesn’t exactly serve as a worthy replacement to the likes of Mario 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy. The Wii U has been performing well, but if Nintendo really wants to see consoles flying off the shelves, it will use 2013 to reveal a new HD Mario adventure, preferably before Microsoft and Sony can get their next consoles to retail. I’m hoping that we’ll see the reveal of a new Zelda game for the Wii U, but with Skyward Sword only hitting at the end of 2011, that may be nothing more than a fool’s hope.

Just as well, I have a feeling that 2013 will be the year that Bethesda reveals Fallout 4, complete with the Creation Engine it used in Skyrim. This one is actually a pretty tough prediction, as I think the reveal of Fallout 4 relies heavily on when Sony and Microsoft’s next-gen consoles launch. If we see a new Xbox or PlayStation this year, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Fallout 4 following closely behind. Bethesda put Oblivion on the Xbox 360 early in the console’s life, and by doing so, Bethesda became a much more common name in the gaming community. If it can use Fallout 4 to show off the tech behind these new consoles, I have a feeling it will.

fallout3ghoul

Sadly, 2013 isn’t going to be an all-around great year for Bethesda. The Elder Scrolls Online is scheduled to launch early this year, but I have no problem predicting that it’ll be dead on arrival. Don’t get me wrong, the game looks great and it’s finally giving us a multiplayer Elder Scrolls experience, but I don’t think it’s the multiplayer experience many players wanted. It’ll also come with a subscription fee at launch, which we know now is only something a select few MMOs can pull off. If Star Wars: The Old Republic can’t make it as a subscription MMO, I sadly don’t think The Elder Scrolls Online can either. I hope I’m wrong, because it does look beautiful and I’m excited to finally have a chance to explore all of Tamriel in one game, but I think history shows that it’s going to be an uphill for the battle for the title, and one that’s going to be nigh impossible to win.

simcity

Even though I’m beyond excited for the return of SimCity, I don’t think that’s going to be a success either. EA’s insistence on using always-on DRM will be what ultimately kills SimCity, as I have a feeling many SimCity players will experience launch problems very similar to the issues Diablo III had. Fans didn’t like Diablo III for many other reasons, but Blizzard’s use of always-on DRM got things off to a very rough start. I just don’t think a game can survive if it sports always-on DRM, so sadly, players might lose interest in the game only a few short months after its release.

dmc-w580

On the other hand, I think DmC: Devil May Cry is going to hit a sweet spot with critics, despite the fact that fans have thrown a fit over the changes being made. Change is always a difficult thing to accept when it comes to gaming, but I think that DmC might just offer the shake up the long running series needs. Early impressions have been good, and while I may end up eating my words sooner rather than later (DmC is out in just a couple of weeks, remember), the game could be the start of something great for the franchise.

2013 will also be the year that Kickstarter proves its worth to the gaming world. A lot of the projects that were funded in 2012 will be releasing in 2013, and while there will be some failures, there will also be some smashing successes. Some games will fail to find an audience outside of backers, sure, but that’s okay – the developers get to make the game they wanted without relying on funds from publishers, and those who were truly interested will get to play it. Unless a studio needs to use some of its own funds to further fuel development, a game funded through Kickstarter doesn’t necessarily need to make millions after launch. In any case, 2013 should be a pretty inspiring year for the game projects that found funding success in 2012.

wasteland2

There is one Kickstarter project from 2012 that might struggle a bit after it’s out of the gate: OUYA. The tiny little Android console has a separate problem from simple games that were funded using Kickstarter, in that it needs support after launch. Yes, it’s an inexpensive console, but I’m still having a hard time seeing how there’s going to be any sort of large-scale success outside of the initial Kickstarter campaign. We shall see soon enough, as OUYA is scheduled to launch in just a few months, and while I don’t think it’ll fail outright, I think that 2013 is going to be a much harder year than OUYA’s makers were anticipating.

ouya_console-580x4131

So there you have it – some of my gaming predictions for 2013. There’s no guarantee that any of this is going to play out as I’ve predicted, but looking at the lead up to 2013, this is where I feel the industry is headed this year. What do you think? Am I completely missing the mark here, or do you think some of these predictions will play out in the year to come? We’ll find out whether I’m right or wrong soon enough as 2013 is already underway, but in the meantime, leave a comment with your own gaming predictions for 2013 below!
