Star Wars Death Star Birdhouse shows you’re all heart

death-star-birdhouseIn the Star Wars space opera, most of us would be able to tell right from the get go just who are the bad guys, and which are the good guys who are all out to save the galaxy from the firm grip of a crazed Emperor Palpatine. Well, those who need to eke out a living have signed up with various Stormtrooper divisions, simply because the Rebel Alliance are unable to pay that well, not to mention they do not have the latest hardware to play around with. Still, this does not mean all under the Galactic Empire are evil, some of them have a heart so much so that they keep pet birds in their homes. If you are part of such a crowd, why not do so with the £24.99 Star Wars Death Star Birdhouse to stay in vogue?

Of course, the Rebel Alliance might not look on to this particular birdhouse design too kindly, especially when it has been used to blow up an entire planet in the past, so any representation of this particular symbol should not be used despite the fact that it houses a life (or more!) within. At the very least, this is the deadliest birdhouse in the galaxy, no? Made out of high quality ceramic, there are no exposed thermal exhaust ports that could compromise its structural integrity. Watch out for dropping “torpedoes” from above now!

This 3D-Printed Bungalow Is the Ultimate Birdhouse

MakerBot’s contest winners print a better birdhouse

Image

Like The Longines Symphonette before it, Thingiverse’s army of 3D printing enthusiasts don’t rest, so when MakerBot put them to the task of building a better home for wayward birds, they naturally jumped into action. Not to put too fine a point on it, but while we’re still a ways from indoor plumbing and the like, the American Craftsman Bungalow is surely the sort of thing any upwardly mobile winged friend would want to call home. The first place winner gets (fittingly) an Eggbot, some PLA filament, display space at the MakerBot NY store and the admiration of birds everywhere. And if Hitchcock has taught us anything, it’s that you want those buggers on your side. You can download the schematics for all of the winners in the source link below, complete with the standard whistles and bells.

Death Star Birdhouse: That’s No Nest

We’ve seen birdhouses that look like R2-D2 and C-3PO, but if your feathered friends lean towards the Dark Side – and are suckers for official Star Wars merch – forget about the droid nests and get this instead. It’s an officially licensed Death Star ceramic bird nest. Now that’s what I’m Tarkin about.

It doesn’t have a superlaser, but at least it doesn’t have vulnerable reactor cores either.

Google Maps Icons IRL Are Really Birdhouses

If you live in the area where Taiwanese artist Shu-Chun Hsiao set up his latest project, then you might be wondering why various locations have real and physical Google’s Maps icons plastered prominently on their walls or doors.

Wait a while, smell the flowers, and watch the birds, and you’ll have your answer.

Google BirdhouseThese Google Maps icons aren’t just pieces of pop art based on the search giant’s popular maps application. They’re actually birdhouses that I’m sure birds of the right size will find a pleasure to live in.

Hsiao explains: “The project is aiming to put numbers of birdhouses all over the city for bird to accommodate. The iconic symbol will become a navigating landmark for the flying birds. Birds, have the most real experience of Google map. Birds can fly through the city, through streets. A birdhouse becomes their destination as Google Map(s) does.”

I’d like to have one for my house, please and thank you very much.

What do you think about Hsiao’s project?

Birdhouses are usually designed to blend into their local environments—but not this one. Taking inspiration from Google Maps, artist Shuchun Hsiao decided to give birds a taste of the search giant’s navigational aids, too. More »

Vintage Campers Make Happy Campers out of Every Bird

These days, the conventional and traditional birdhouse might not be enough for our avian friends who want their homes to get an upgrade.

Wood-worker Jumahl was happy to oblige and he designed what looks to be a vintage camper for birds.

Bird CampersDon’t they look grand? They’re not just for aesthetics either, because the miniature aluminum door also acts as a deterrent to squirrels. They’re available in a variety of colors, but it looks like bird lovers have snatched up most of them, leaving only the turquoise ones in stock.

The vintage camper bird houses feature a slide out bottom for easy cleaning and they’re constructed from durable and stable marine grade plywood so they’ll last longer in the great outdoors.

They’re priced at $60(USD) and are available from  Jumahl’s Etsy shop.
