RIM Reduces Pricing Tier For Apps On BlackBerry World

blackberry RIM Reduces Pricing Tier For Apps On BlackBerry World Just over the weekend after renaming its BlackBerry App World to the much simpler and bolder BlackBerry World, Research In Motion revealed plans of updating the pricing tier on its apps on the storefront. RIM says that it will first update the British Pound (GPB) and Euro (EUR) currencies, and that updates to other currencies will follow shortly. Citing the reason for the adjustment, RIM says that it wants to make sure that prices are in line with currency fluctuations and that its apps within BlackBerry World are competitive. (more…)

White BlackBerry 10 X10 Pictures Leak Online

White BlackBerry 10 X10 Pictures Leak Online

We’re just two days away from RIM’s big press event where we’ll learn more about its upcoming BlackBerry 10 devices, two of which we assume will be the BlacBerry 10 Z10 and BlackBerry 10 X10 while a BlackBerry 10 tablet would be nice to see, we’re not holding our breath on it making its debut this Wednesday.

Since we’re so close to the event, it isn’t unexpected for additional leaks to be made. Such is the case as a number of images have made their way to the Web that not only show off the Z10, which we’ve seen a number of times already, but show it in its white version. We heard reports of a white Z10 mentioned in the past, but have yet to see a real version of it.

BlackBerry Z10 renders make the case against iPhone 5

The fellow who brought you quite a few ultra-realistic renderings of smartphones and tablets over the past year Martin Hajek has struck again with the BlackBerry Z10. This time he’s making the case for a white version of the machine as it sits right next to the iPhone 5, also rendered by this amazingly talented fellow. What’s interesting about this device beyond its obvious inclusion in the same generation of smartphone aesthetics as the iPhone 5 is that it is, here, appearing to be a real iPhone competitor – could it be?

afweew

The quality of the renders here is something we’re having trouble not focusing on as it was this man’s work nearly the whole tech publishing universe was tricked by back when he first whipped up the iPhone 5. And he’s certainly not gotten worse with his skill set since then, that’s for certain. Once we’ve got that in mind, it’s looking like RIM has done an amazing job at creating a smartphone that, believe it or not, looks beautiful enough on its own (before the software, that is), that it holds its own against the iPhone.

While the back of the device still rings a heavy RIM bell with a uniformly textured battery cover and a squared-off camera rectangle with beastly flash bulb next door, the sides and front are distinctly smooth and ready for a real modern fashion competition with the rest of the market here in 2013. The BlackBerry N10 is also rendered here in both white and black, appearing quite sleek and polished (as all renders from Hajek do), but again falling ever-so-slightly flat on the back.

The renders you see here are made from a combination of specification leaks, rumors, and what can be essentially considered confirmations (nearly) in photos and videos of the device that’ve been flowing for several weeks. Have a peek at the timeline below to learn more about the BlackBerry 10 launch (we’ll be there on the 30th of this month) as well as the BlackBerry Z10 you see above. Let us know if you’re going to jump on the BlackBerry 10 ship through the future, too!

Sorry Apple, the BlackBerry Z10 Is Hotter Than the iPhone

I’ve always hated BlackBerry phones. Disgracefully ugly bricks they were—until the BlackBerry Z10. The BlackBerry Z10 is hot. Truly beautiful, elegant hardware. If the OS is as nice as it seemed at CES, I will totally snatch one up. More »

BlackBerry 10 movie and music plenty detailed

BlackBerry 10 isn’t due to get its official reveal until later this week, but RIM can’t help but seep out a little information on what sort of movies and music options owners will have for BlackBerry World shopping sprees. Describing its portfolio – which includes content from Fox, Sony Pictures, Warner Music, and more – as one of the most robust mobile users will have to choose from, RIM says it will offer movie rentals and purchases in the US, UK, and Canada initially, while eighteen countries will get DRM-free music download access.

Those eighteen include Canada, USA, UK, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, South Africa, Spain, Australia, India, Malaysia, New Zealand, and Singapore, though exactly which tracks will be available in each market will vary. RIM had already announced that its music service would be powered by 7digital.

Most movies, RIM says, will be available to rent from the BlackBerry World store on the day that they get released on DVD, while most TV series will hit the following day. Previews will be available, and various payment options via the BlackBerry ID system.

Studio highlights on the movie roster include Lionsgate, Paramount, Sony Pictures, Walt Disney Studios, and MGM, while for TV shows there’s BBC Worldwide, National Geographic, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Warner Bros., and CBS. For music, there’ll be a mixture of mainstream and independent labels, including Sony Music, Universal, Rough Trade, and Matador.

BlackBerry 10 will get its official moment in the sun on Wednesday, January 30, after which it will have to hammer its way into a smartphone market dominated by a “duopoly” of Android and iOS.

New BlackBerry 10 rumors tip a (slightly) lower price

RIM is set to officially unveil BlackBerry 10 in only two more days. With the new operating system and smartphone hardware set to go official later this week, new rumors have surfaced ahead of the official launch. According to one of the new rumors, people interested in BlackBerry 10 could expect a more reasonable price.

blackberry_10_dev_alpha_b_hands-on_10-580x408

Previous rumors indicated that the BlackBerry Z10 smartphone running the new operating system would be available for $799 without a SIM card. That price was tipped by a leaked screenshot claimed to come from Best Buy Canada. The latest rumor is based on a leaked screenshot claim to be from the Carphone Warehouse.

The second screenshot says that the white BlackBerry Z10 will sell for £479.95, which would work out to $755. That’s only $44 less than the previous rumor indicated, but less money is less money. If the £479.95 price were correct for the BlackBerry Z10, it would be a bit cheaper than a 16 GB iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S III from Carphone Warehouse at £509 and £499 respectively.

Other rumors have indicated that in the United States that the BlackBerry Z10 would be offered for under $200 with a two-year contract. One of the things we’ll find out in a few days is the official launch date for the device, which had previously been rumored for two different days. Those old rumors have suggested February 28 and March 27. Another rumor has surfaced that claims the smartphone might launch on February 5.

RIM to air first-ever Super Bowl ad for BlackBerry 10

The Super Bowl is one of the most-watched programs on television, and if you really want to get your name out there, then you would buy a 30-second commercial spot during the big game. While the Super Bowl may be the only reason that sports fans clamber around the TV, the commercials also happen to be a big thing as well. It turns out that RIM will be airing a BlackBerry 10 ad during the Super Bowl to promote the new platform.

blackberry_10_dev_alpha_b_hands-on_32-580x42712

The ad will air just days after RIM officially launches BlackBerry 10 on January 30 — the Super Bowl takes place on February 3, so while the new platform will already be out and about, RIM will be attempting to garner the attentions of potential BlackBerry users around the country. The 30-second spot is estimated to cost around $3.8 million.

If the viewership for this year’s Super Bowl passes last year’s record, RIM may get over 111 million viewers to see its new advertisement, and while a majority of them may run off to the kitchen for refreshments and snacks, we guarantee a lot of people will still be in front of the TV to witness BlackBerry 10.

It’s rumored that RIM will launch several devices at its launch event in New York City on January 30, including the heavily-leaked Z10 smartphone. Prospective carriers that may carry the new BlackBerry devices include T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T in the US, with Virgin Mobile in Canada and Vodafone in the UK.
