BlackBerry 10 voice controls hit leaked video demo

As we ramp up to the 30th of January and the official launch of RIM’s own BlackBerry 10, we’re seeing multiple leaks and test videos like the one we’ve been shown today, complete with a demonstration of the software’s Voice Control system. This system is built in to BlackBerry 10 and looks rather familiar if you’re used to Siri from iOS or S-Voice from Samsung’s Galaxy series. In this case you’ll be pressing the Start button (aka power button) on your device a 2-count and the Voice Control system will activate.

At the moment we’re able to see several functionalities included in this build, starting with the ability to send an SMS message courtesy of the folks at Telekom Presse. Though the voice recognition here is nothing like we’re seeing with advanced diction-decoding voice systems like Siri, pre-set commands appear to work perfectly well. You’ll also see the system make a phone call and start up a bit of music as it exists on the device itself – perhaps streaming apps in the future, too!

This video also shows off a couple other items that we’ve seen in the past, including the next-level keyboard with its fully functional predictive text engine. The maps application you may have seen in the past is also being shown here in brief. While we’re not sure this is the final version of the software that will be revealed at the end of this month, what we’re seeing thus far does seem to be relatively solid – as a demo, anyway.

BB10-Test2-1

The machine you’re seeing these demos on is the BlackBerry Z10. This is a touch-centric device working with the newest iteration of BlackBerry 10 and will be acting as one of RIM’s 2 or more hero devices at the launch of this new operating system. Have a peek in our BlackBerry 10 tag portal for more and hit the timeline below for the most recent action in the RIM universe!

BlackBerry Z10 Appears On Verizon

Z10 BlackBerry Z10 Appears On VerizonTick tock. The clock is ticking until January 30th. It’s the day, as we know, that BlackBerry 10 will be launched. Adding to the leaks, the reputable surreptitious informant on Twitter that is EvLeaks is posting what appears to be a leaked screenshot of the long-rumored BlackBerry Z10 on Verizon’s page. We tried to search for the actual Verizon landing page, but to no avail. Anyway, this somewhat confirms two things. (more…)

Verizon BlackBerry 10 preparations previewed as carriers ready for RIM

RIM is planning on officially launching its new BlackBerry 10 OS on January 30, and most of the major carriers will be offering the company’s new phones at launch. So, it probably comes at no surprise that they’re gathering up their materials and preparing for the platform’s launch. Specifically, Verizon has already built their landing page for the Z10, and EVLeaks ended up getting a snapshot of it.

EVLeaks posted the screenshot earlier this morning via Twitter, and while it’s way too small to even read, it gives us a quick look at what Verizon has planned for its customers who are looking to go the way of BlackBerry come later this month. We also get a peek at what Verizon’ BlackBerry Z10 will look like, which doesn’t look too different from what we’ve seen, but the silver backing is something new compared to past images we saw.

The screenshot of Verizon’s BlackBerry 10 landing page doesn’t tell us much anyway, even if it were a little bigger to make it easier to read. In any case, this goes to show that carriers are getting ramped up for RIM’s BlackBerry 10 launch, and it proves that carriers are going to give the new platform a lot of attention.

RIM is betting big on its new platform, and the company thinks BlackBerry 10 will revive the company from despair and put them back in contention. They’ve already received 15,000 app submissions in just 36 hours, and they got 1,600 companies to sign up for the BlackBerry 10 training program. It looks like developers are showing a little bit of faith in the new OS, or maybe they’re just in it for the incentives.

RIM And T-Mobile To Hold Executive Blackberry 10 Preview Ahead Of Launch

RIMblackberry10pressevent thumb RIM And T Mobile To Hold Executive Blackberry 10 Preview Ahead Of LaunchSo we know that RIM’s Blackberry 10 platform will be launched on all four major carriers – AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint, but it looks like some lucky customers (maybe T-Mobile subscribers) will be chosen by both RIM and T-Mobile to attend a Blackberry 10 Executive Preview Event which will be held in NYC at a supposedly top secret location. As you can see in the photo of the invite above, and from the name of the event, we expect that RIM and T-Mobile will be catering to the enterprise users and convince them that RIM’s Blackberry 10 platform will be the enterprise platform of choice. Given that RIM’s BES was (and probably still is for some companies) the platform of choice for many companies back in the day, perhaps Blackberry 10 will be compelling enough for companies to reconsider adopting RIM’s mobile platform. The event will be held on the 24th of January, a little less than a week before RIM’s official launch.

BlackBerry 10 Photo Editing App Video

The filter wars seem set to continue if you were to take the latest leaked video of the BlackBerry 10 photo editing app that has started to make its rounds online. At first, we had Instagram adding in a new filter, where Twitter and Flickr followed that up by adding more filters to their sites. Apparently, BlackBerry does not want to miss jumping aboard the bandwagon, which is why we have this video of a pre-production version of the BlackBerry Z10 that comes with just 1GB RAM and does not have the final software for security purposes, showing off some of the more notable features found in the smartphone’s camera app.

Needless to say, the photo editing app on the BlackBerry 10 comes with a range of filters that enables you to change colors as well as perform other kinds of artistic enhancements. You can do the usual shebang such as crop, resize and even reduce the picture into a specific shape. We can’t wait for the curtain to fully lift from the BlackBerry 10 in its unveiling at the end of this month.

BlackBerry Z10′s camera app and photo filters demonstrated in video

The Blackberry Z10′s camera app has appeared in a video demonstration, which walks users through the various built-in photo filters it offers. The filters are similar to what you’ll find on Instagram, as well as Facebook and Twitter’s mobile apps. The folks over at Gadget Masters got their hands on the device and demo’d it in a video, which you can check out after the jump.

z10 photo filters

The Z10′s camera app offers quite a few integrated photo filters, several of which are used during the demonstration. As with Instagram and similar photo filter applications, the filters are designed to give the photos certain feels and styles, such as sepia and greyscale. Users can scroll through the various filters and see them applied to the photo before saving and sharing it.

In addition to the photo filters, the camera app also has some editing tools built in that make it easy to adjust an image without using a third-party app or transferring it to a computer. The editing tools are pretty basic, and include transforming the image, increasing or decreasing the brightness, and “enhancing” the image.

While we don’t see it in the video, Gadget Masters also notes that in addition to altering the look of the image, it can also be cropped, resized, rotated, etc. As noted in the video, the camera software being shown off is not the final version (and neither is the Z10). It still provides a solid look at what prospective buyers can expect, however, as well as the array of filters RIM has integrated into the app.

RIM Launches Blackberry 10 “Last Chance Port-A-Thon” Event

RIM Launches Blackberry 10 Last Chance Port A Thon EventJust the other day we reported that RIM’s recent Blackberry 10 app port-a-thon managed to net about 15,000 apps in just under two days. While all those submitted apps may or may not be approved, that’s certainly a large number of apps that RIM will be able to choose form and add it to the Blackberry 10 app store. Now it looks like the Canadian company is going for round two and has announced the “Last Chance Port-A-Thon” event which will be taking place on the 18th of January 2013. It will kick off at noon ET, run for 36 hours, and similar to the previous event, RIM will be paying out $100 for every app that is approved with a maximum of 20 apps per developer, and developers who submit at least five apps will be eligible for a chance to win a Blackberry 10 Dev Alpha device. Of course with Blackberry 10 officially launching on the 30th of January, personally I think that a prize of an actual Blackberry 10 finish product would certainly be a lot more appealing, but to each their own! We wonder how many apps RIM will manage to get this time and if they will be able to surpass their goal of 70,000 apps on launch day.

BlackBerry 10 Training Program Has Over 1,600 Businesses Registered

00 BlackBerry logo BlackBerry 10 Training Program Has Over 1,600 Businesses RegisteredEarlier this morning, we talked about how a leaked BlackBerry 10 training program revealed more information on the operating system as well as upcoming smartphone that will run on said operating system, and here we are with more news about BlackBerry 10 – it seems that over 1,600 businesses in North America have already registered themselves to take part in a BlackBerry 10 training program, where this will happen before the operating system’s official launch this coming January 30th.

Basically, the BlackBerry 10 Ready Program delivers “information, guidance and support to businesses as they prepare their IT teams and technical environments” for the new operating system, according to a spokesperson for RIM, Nick Manning. Manning claimed that the kinds of businesses that signed up were as different as day and night, where they range from Fortune 500 companies to government customers, major retailers, educational institutions and legal firms. Sure sounds like music to RIM’s ears, I am sure.

The listing went live on Expansys earlier today and it has a price tag of $33.99 and a due date on the 21st of February. RIM gets 1,600 companies to sign up for BlackBerry 10 training program

The good news just keeps on coming for RIM as we get ever closer to the company’s BlackBerry 10 reveal at the end of the month. Just recently we heard that RIM enjoyed 15,000 app submissions for BlackBerry 10 in the span of just a couple days, and today, RIM revealed that it has signed up more that 1,600 companies for its BlackBerry 10 training program. These businesses that signed up will receive training on what’s new and what’s changed with BlackBerry 10, prepping them to use the new mobile OS in day-to-day operations.

blackberry_10_dev_alpha_b_hands-on_32-580x4271

Getting 1,600 companies to sign up for its training program is no joke, and shows that there’s a significant amount of interest in BlackBerry 10 before it even launches. RIM hasn’t talked about which companies have signed up for BlackBerry 10 training and will probably never reveal those details, but we wouldn’t be surprised to find out that a number of big names are on the sign up sheet. Regardless of the names that are on the list, today’s announcement proves that a fair few companies have taken an interest in the new BlackBerry.

That’s hardly surprising when you remember that BlackBerry once ruled the business world. With the coming of iOS and Android, however, RIM saw its market share shrink quarter after quarter, and now the company seems to be on the brink of disaster. There’s a lot riding on BlackBerry 10, make no mistake, but at the moment, it seems that RIM may be heading toward a success rather than a letdown.

Early reactions appear to be pretty good, with major carriers across the US pledging to carry BlackBerry 10 handsets. We’ll find out plenty more about BlackBerry 10 later this month, at RIM’s launch event on January 30. SlashGear will be there covering the whole thing, so be sure to check back with us for all of the news you need to know from the BlackBerry 10 launch event.
