BlackBerry 10 Training Materials Leaked

bb10 training BlackBerry 10 Training Materials LeakedRIM is said to roll out their new BlackBerry 10 operating system as well as first batch of smartphones that will be powered by BlackBerry 10 later this January, but before that day arrives, there seems to be too many leaks surrounding BlackBerry 10 to write about. Whether it is done on purpose or not remains to be seen, but one thing we do know – there is no escaping the hype. The latest BlackBerry 10 leak involves a training material that will help teach salespeople on selling the new OS and devices, and this naturally means pointing out the various strong points of BlackBerry 10.

Some of the more interesting topics it touches on would be the 356ppi pixel density touchscreen display, the benefits of a Snapdragon S4 chipset, a 1800mAh battery, as well as viewpoints from the software segment such as a new gesture-based user interface and “best in class” HTML5 browser. Are you stoked yet, and will you give BlackBerry 10 a go when it arrives at last? RIM desperately needs BlackBerry 10 to be a smashing success if they were to have a chance to remain competitive in the world of smartphones.

Walmart Canada Takes BlackBerry 10 Pre-Orders

walmart logo Walmart Canada Takes BlackBerry 10 Pre OrdersWalmart Canada has chosen their Facebook page to be the platform of choice when it comes to announcing their readiness to accept pre-orders for the first BlackBerry 10 handset. Over on that page, Walmart could be seen promoting the Time Shift mode on the new BlackBerry 10 camera, where this mode will allow the camera to capture images of your subject milliseconds before and after you snap the shutter, so that you can pick out the best facial expression for your picture. Sounds like something found in dedicated digital cameras like the Nikon 1 series.

You will be able to place your reservation for one of these puppies for $50 a pop, and it is nice to see RIM being a Canadian-based company offer retailers in their own country the first attempt at letting customers place a pre-order for the first BlackBerry 10 smartphone, where we do hope to see RIM bounce back from the doldrums in this do-or-die mission. Hopefully those of us living Stateside will know more about BlackBerry 10 at its press event this January 30th.

SlashGear Evening Wrap-Up: January 15, 2013

Welcome to Tuesday evening, everyone. The afternoon started off with something of a bang with Facebook’s big event, during which the company revealed the service’s new Graph Search and explained the difference between the new feature and traditional web search. It also announced that it was partnering with Bing for search results in Graph Search, while we used the latest installment of SlashGear 101 to give you all of the details about this new feature.

We heard from one Jefferies analyst that Apple might begin preliminary production on the iPhone 5S in March, while specs for the rumored Sony Xperia Tablet Z leaked out (we’re told to expect a full HD display, among other things). A ChangeWave study tells us that iPhone demand is down though the device still dominates the charts, and Acura revealed its 2015 NSX concept car at NAIAS 2013 today. We got an up close look at the rumored BlackBerry Z10 handset in a new video, and we learned that there might be Java-based iterations of the Red October cyberespionage attacks, which would explain why the Department of Homeland Security has been so insistent in its recommendation to stop using the software.

Tesla announced today that it will open 25 new stores this year, while 2K Games and Irrational delivered the PC requirements for the incoming BioShock Infinite. A US District Court has dismissed the case against Aaron Swartz after his tragic death, and it would appear that Samsung has a new phone called the Galaxy Pocket Plus on the way. Disney Infinity was announced today, and it’s looking to take a bite out of Skylanders’ massive audience, while United has become the first international US-based airline to offer WiFi on its flights.

AT&T is offering Nexus 7 owners a $100 credit on their bill if they sign up for a data plan with it, and NASA is telling us that Curiosity may have found its first potential rock sample target on the surface of Mars. 10 more games have moved through Steam Greenlight, Call of Duty Online has kicked off alpha testing in China, and finally tonight, Simple has brought its online banking app to Android. That does it for tonight’s Evening Wrap-Up, we hope you enjoy the rest of your night folks!

Leaked BlackBerry Z10 Video By German Website Leaves Nothing To The Imagination

We’re only 15 days away from RIM’s big media event where they plan to make a number of BlackBerry 10 announcements, although with the recent leaks of multiple handsets and first looks into the BlackBerry 10 OS, we can’t imagine there being anything else up RIM’s sleeve at this point. That is, besides actually showing off the new handsets and the OS together on film, which is exactly what another leaked video is doing.

A German website called TelekomPresse published a video recently that not only shows the BlackBerry Z10 in a pretty extensive hardware overview, but it also shows what the BlackBerry 10 OS is capable of on the device.

This isn’t exactly new ground as we’ve caught multiple glimpses at the BlackBerry 10 OS, but this is the first time one of the new handsets running the OS have been caught in the wild. If you absolutely can’t wait until January 30 when RIM makes their official announcement, this new video should hold you over for the next 15 days.

BlackBerry Z10 all-touch smartphone gets close-up video rundown

This month we’re ramping up to the big drop of BlackBerry 10, and along the way we’re getting pumped up with leaked video after leaked photo, one after the other, today’s offering being a full hands-on look at the smartphone known as the Z10. This device is a full touch BlackBerry 10-toting device, it making use of a lovely 4.3-inch display up front and a styling that’s able to be presented in black, white, or potentially a variety of other color casings.

blackbaarbae

What you’re seeing in the video isn’t a whole lot of new information if you’re familiar with the OS as we’ve seen it in leaks before, but for those of you new to the BlackBerry 10 leaking faucet, this will act as an OK briefing. The video shows off the BlackBerry Hub, for starters, as well as the clock. Both of these apps are native to the device and to BlackBerry 10, and will be showing up on essentially all BlackBerry 10 devices through the future.

The final version of the software will be presented later this month, but for now you’ll see what must be near-final versions of Task Manager, the pull-down menu abilities of the OS, and three base menu buttons. You’ll see a phone button, search button, and camera button at the bottom of the display much of the time the video plays, this giving you instant access to these most-used functions.

Pay special attention to the way the OS flows as well as how well the device is pushing the OS to the user. While we’re expecting a smoother experience at the end of this month, this presentation certainly doesn’t look half bad for a final OS/hardware combination. Stick with us through our BlackBerry 10 tag as well as right here in the main news feed on January 30th, 2013.

RIM’s stock surges again as BlackBerry 10 excitement builds

It’s been a long road filled with delays and setbacks, but in just a couple short weeks, RIM will finally unveil BlackBerry 10 to the world. At its press event on January 30, RIM will officially launch the new mobile OS, which is seen by many as the company’s best hope of coming back from the brink. The BlackBerry faithful are certainly pumped for BB10′s launch, but it seems that investors are excited too, as RIM’s stock is making another surge today.

RIMlogo

At the time of this writing, RIM’s stock is up right around 9%, floating between a price of $14.75 and $14.85. This isn’t exactly a new thing for RIM, either, with it’s stock making some pretty significant gains in recent weeks. Just today, RIM announced that it had received 15,000 app submissions for BlackBerry 10 in just 36 hours, an announcement we think helped with the most recent stock boost.

Surges like this have to be encouraging for the company, which has been struggling in a big way lately. Apple and Android swooped in to take a large amount of market share away from RIM, leaving it in a distant third place. The company has a lot of ground to make up, and if BlackBerry 10 is a success, then it might just be able to do so.

Of course, the chances of BlackBerry 10 propelling RIM into second or even first place in terms of market share seem pretty slim, but stranger things have happened in the smartphone world. The new mobile OS could certainly help RIM close the gap between BlackBerry and the other two at any rate, and you can bet that closing the gap is what RIM has its sights set on. We’ll see if BlackBerry 10 is greeted with success soon enough, but for now, the excitement surrounding the new mobile OS seems to be enough to keep sending the company’s stock up.

BlackBerry 10 gets 15,000 app submissions in 36 hours

BlackBerry 10 is only a half-month away from launching, and RIM just recently hosted two Port-a-Thon events to encourage developers to submit their games and apps for BlackBerry 10, while offering $100 for any app approved to the store. Naturally, the $100 incentive seemed to work, since 15,000 apps were submitted over the course of just over 36 hours.

blackberry_10_dev_alpha_b_hands-on_32-580x427

Vice President of Director Relations Alec Saunders tweeted the news earlier this morning. And while developers would be given $100 for every approved app, BlackBerry 10 hardware was also being offered. The first developers submitting between two and five approved apps were promised a free PlayBook, while those writing more than five approved apps were entered into a random drawing to receive a BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha device.

However, it’s essential to note that it’s highly unlikely that every app submitted will be approved for the store, but the company needs as many submissions as possible if they hope for a successful launch. Then again, it would be ignorant to assume the success or failure of a platform based solely on the number of apps available, which is why the devices and the OS themselves need be solid as well.

On average during those 36 hours, there were 405 apps submitted every hour, and if RIM ended up approving all 15,000 apps (unlikely), they would be paying out a whopping $1.5 million to developers, not counting all the hardware that they’ll be handing out. RIM is definitely putting their time and resources into this new platform, but let’s just hope it works for them.

15,000 Apps Submitted During RIM’s Blackberry 10 App Port-A-Thon

15,000 Apps Submitted During RIMs Blackberry 10 App Port A ThonRemember last year we reported that RIM would be holding a Blackberry 10 app port-a-thon over the weekend? Well that weekend has since come and gone, but in the meantime it looks like the event might have been a success as it seems that a whopping 15,000 Blackberry 10 apps were submitted in the process! Granted there is a chance that not all of them will be making it into the store, but it also means that RIM will have a wide selection of apps to choose from to load up into their stores once Blackberry 10 has gone live. We expect that the incentives such as $100 per approved app, free Playbooks and a chance to win a Blackberry 10 Dev Alpha device probably helped sweeten the deal, and based on our calculations, assuming all apps make the cut, RIM will be paying out $1.5 million to the developers involved! Not too shabby! Now we know that RIM promised to have at least 70,000 apps available for Blackberry 10 devices at launch and with these 15,000 submitted apps, we wouldn’t be surprised if RIM will be able to meet their goal.

Sprint joins BB10 bandwagon, ‘plans’ to carry devices ‘later this year’

Ah, there you are, Sprint — didn’t speak up at first. Following confirmations by US carriers, Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T that they’d be carrying BlackBerry 10 devices this year, the Now Network has joined the fray. While we’ll surely find out the full details from RIM come the OS’s official kick-off on January 30th, details are currently slim. A rep for the company confirmed the news to BGR (and Engadget, for that matter) stating, “Sprint plans to bring BlackBerry 10 to our customers later this year. We will share more details soon.” Notably, Sprint is the only carrier that hasn’t committed to having devices upon the launch of the OS — of course, being the Now Network doesn’t always mean being first.
