Another Blackberry 10 Dev Alpha Device Shows Up On eBay

bb10 dev Another Blackberry 10 Dev Alpha Device Shows Up On eBayWith RIM set to launch Blackberry 10 at the end of the month, unsurprisingly it seems that there are some developers who have put up their Blackberry 10 Dev Alpha device on eBay, presumably to attract fans who can’t wait for the actual release. The last time we saw such an auction it was sitting around $900, and it looks like another auction for a Dev Alpha device has popped up on eBay, although this time this particular unit is commanding more than $2,000 and with 23 bids so far with less than a day to go before the auction ends, there is a chance that the price might increase further. Like we mentioned earlier, chances are people bidding on this are hardcore fans or simply want to show off this “exclusivity”, but with Blackberry 10’s launch around the corner with its accompanying devices presumably following shortly after, do you think it’s worth paying so much for a Dev Alpha handset?

BlackBerry Z10 parts surface, 4.3-inch display in the mix

RIM’s upcoming BlackBerry 10 devices are becoming less and less of a mystery as they get closer and closer to the January 30 release date. This time around, a slew of parts from the BlackBerry Z10 handset have surfaced, including the LCD, touchscreen digitizer, and housings, all of which point to a 4.3-inch display.

blackberry-z10-lcd-leak

ETrade Supply ended up getting their hands on a couple of parts, and even released a nice video for us to enjoy. Other than the 4.3-inch display, there looks to be a microSD card slot, but the SIM slot is the biggest surprise. The position of the slot varies depending on the part, which could mean that there were several design tweaks along the way.

Other than that, we’re looking at an HDMI-out port, and the whole device will be about 3/8-inch (10mm) thick. Of course, we’ve already seen leaked photos of the new phone in its entirety, so seeing the parts individually probably won’t mean anything to a lot of people, but they do confirm a couple of specs that we’ve been curious about.

Either way, we’ll have to wait patiently until January 30 to find out exactly what the Z10 will look like, and hopefully we’ll know what the deal is with the SIM slot. Of course, we’ll be there for the big BlackBerry 10 launch, so be sure to stick around if you’re curious to see what RIM has in store at the end of the month.

BlackBerry Z10 With Verizon Livery Spotted

z10 branding BlackBerry Z10 With Verizon Livery SpottedIt will be at the end of this month in New York City when we will finally see what could very well be the last throw of RIM’s dice where their BlackBerry future is concerned with the unveiling of BlackBerry 10. Well, what kind of hardware could we look forward to? The BlackBerry Z10 is certainly one of them, in addition to the BlackBerry X10 that comes with a QWERTY keyboard. Well, the BlackBerry Z10 has been spotted with the Verizon logo at the top of the device, as you can see in the image above, which is very different from the RIM-only branded hardware that we have seen in leaked images of the past.

As for the other Z10 that you see above, it is said to be made available for AT&T in the US, but it could be the case where the badging is not quite ready for prime time viewing, or perhaps the AT&T logo is located right at the back, although we would put our smart money on the former. Would you be one of those who are willing to throw your weight and money behind the BlackBerry 10 ecosystem?

BlackBerry Z10 leaks for Verizon and AT&T

A photo has been leaked today of the next-generation RIM-made BlackBerry 10 device by the name of BlackBerry Z10, a machine that’s set to run an all-touch version of the mobile software coming out later this month. These handsets are said by the source to be in testing mode and that one is being carried by Verizon (scope the branding in the upper left) and the other is being carried by AT&T.

img-20130103-00139

The source is a device tester (not from the press, we must assume) who has provided the image to Business Inside who also quote him listing a selection of features from the phone. This machine looks to be appearing on either carrier with essentially the same size and shape, this ringing true with our prediction that we’re going to see a lot more Hero Device strategy in 2013 – read our Android Predictions for 2013 as well for some spooky similarities.

“• The build quality is really nice. The back cover feels rubbery and snaps on sort of like the back cover on Samsung’s Galaxy S III.
• The screen looks great.
• The web browser is very quick, just as fast as a desktop browser. It also supports Flash.
• You can set up separate profiles for work and personal use. This is good for people who want to use one phone for business and play.
• It integrates with Evernote.
• The new AppWorld store looks a lot like the Google Play store for Android apps.
• It only takes one minute to boot up.” – Anon

The source above appears to confirm several points that we’d heard from other sources in the past, including Evernote integration and that the build quality of the phone itself is rather high. We’re of course looking forward to there being a removable battery (as all good action-based phones should have) as well as a build quality that’s just as great as past BlackBerry devices – or better.

These machines will be revealed later this month at the BlackBerry event on the 30th, we’ll be there right in the front row for those of you getting pumped up for the big BlackBerry 10 launch and RIM’s next era! Let us know what you expect to see!

New RIM patent filing puts “spy cam” pictures in its crosshairs

There are a lot of leaks in the tech and gadget worlds, and many of these leaks center around blurry images of upcoming products that were snapped quickly to avoid being caught. RIM is looking to prevent these “spy cam” shots with a new patent it has on file with the USPTO. This patent is for technology that prevents a smartphone camera from snapping a picture unless the phone has been held still for a predetermined amount of time.

RIMlogo

The idea, obviously, is preventing would-be leakers from snapping just a quick shot of an anticipated product. By requiring that the camera remain still for a certain amount of time before a picture can be snapped, you force these leakers to be a little more obvious in their picture taking, potentially preventing leaks before pictures can even be collected. It sounds like a great idea for businesses who want to keep vital information from being made public ahead of time, but other than that, this technology probably has limited uses.

Of course, we could all benefit from tech that requires us to hold the camera still before shooting a pictures, as it means we might have fewer drunken photos to regret. In any case, it makes sense that RIM is the one filing this patent, as most of its BlackBerry customers seem to be those in the business realm. In order for something like to this to prevent a significant number of leaks, however, more platforms outside of just BlackBerry would have to adopt it, which means paying RIM a licensing fee.

We’re not sure if RIM will have this technology up and running when BlackBerry 10 launches – probably not, considering RIM’s BlackBerry 10 launch event is just a few short weeks away – but don’t be surprised if this technology makes its way to the mobile OS at some point in the future. Do you think this new patent will do much to prevent unauthorized images, or will leakers still a find a way to get these pictures up on the Internet?

Blackberry 10 Device RFH121LW Spotted At The FCC

blackberry z10 Blackberry 10 Device RFH121LW Spotted At The FCCA couple of days ago before the new year, we reported that a Blackberry 10 device with the model number RFF91LW was spotted at the FCC with AT&T’s LTE and GSM bands on board, and it looks like that will not be the only Blackberry 10 device that will be debuting. According to another FCC filing, another Blackberry 10 device with the model number RFH121LW was spotted. Unfortunately details about this particular device remains unknown, but hopefully more will be revealed when RIM launches the Blackberry 10 platform on the 30th of January.

Now we know that the Blackberry 10 Z10 will most likely be the first Blackberry 10 handset that the Canadian company will be launching, but at the same time we know that RIM has QWERTY Blackberry 10 handsets in the works which has tentatively been referred to as the X10. Verizon has confirmed in the past that they would be launching Blackberry 10 devices, so there is a chance that this particular model could be the Z10 designed for Verizon’s network. This is pure speculation so try not to read too much into this, but be sure to check back with us on the 30th of January for the details.

BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha Units Pop Up On eBay

bb dev alpha ebay BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha Units Pop Up On eBayThey say that everyone has their price, and even more so, every thing has its price, too. After all, physical objects without a soul have far less real value than an actual human being, although most of the time the world works otherwise. Well, if you are a huge fan of all things BlackBerry and want to get hold of the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha units which have seen action in the past, here is some good news to kick off the new year with – it seems that eBay is carrying a bunch of BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha units, although these are rather limited in quantity for obvious reasons.

It is not too smart to fork out money, especially good money for a device that has been labeled “Not for Sale” for obvious reasons, other than the fact that it could be a felony to own one of these, and you definitely are unable to send it in to make a warranty claim should anything go wrong. A couple of BlackBerry 10 Dev Alphas were sold on eBay for $900 and $999, and if you think that patience is your stronger suit, we would recommend you to sit tight and wait. After all, the BlackBerry 10 launch event is happening this January 30th.

Mysterious BlackBerry 10 device arrives at FCC

Those who have been following the development of BlackBerry 10 might like to know that a new device has arrived at the FCC. Its model number is RFH121LW, but other than that, we don’t know much about this phone. The documents that accompany the filing are merely an exposure report and its appendices, along with some letters and a test report. This means we don’t get any images and hardly any idea of the phone’s specifications.

BlackBerry-10-logo-vc8

So, we’ll just have to use our imaginations for another month or so. The RFH121LW could possibly be one of the phones RIM plans to unveil during its BlackBerry 10 launch event next month, so we may see more of it then. Whatever happens there, we know it’s going to be big, as RIM has to blow the socks off everyone if it wants to make an impact and get people to pay attention to the new mobile operating system meant to bring the company back from the brink.

We’ve seen our share of BlackBerry 10 handsets before this, though. Over the weekend, new images of what’s reportedly the BlackBerry X10 leaked out, following numerous leaks of the BlackBerry Z10. RIM will be offering all-touch BlackBerry 10 devices alongside phones that retain the famous BlackBerry QWERTY keyboard, so there should be something for all kinds of smartphones lovers when it comes to BlackBerry 10.

BlackBerry10label

So far, we’ve been hearing pretty good things about BlackBerry 10. RIM has been citing an enthusiastic response from developers and retail partners alike, so there’s a chance that the company could knock it out of the park with this release. We’ll be seeing all of what BlackBerry 10 has to offer in no time at all, as RIM is set to host its launch event on January 30. Stay tuned.

RIM’s upcoming Blackberry 10 Z10 is hardly a surprise given all the leaked images, but then again since the official unveiling of the device has yet to come, Blackberry 10 fans will no doubt be pleased to learn that additional photos of the handset have made their way onto the internet again via fou6an.com. There’s nothing new to see except that these are some pretty clear photos of the handset, and interestingly the image of the iPhone above is said to be a photo taken by the Z10’s camera! Since the cameras on Blackberry phones don’t exactly jump to mind when we talk about smartphone cameras, we’re sure that many are wondering how the Z10’s camera handles, and assuming the image above has indeed been taken by the Z10, we have to say that we are suitably impressed! What do you guys think? In the meantime you can check out the additional photos of the Z10 below.

BlackBerry 10 Device Hits The FCC

bb10 fcc BlackBerry 10 Device Hits The FCCAt the end of January next month, we will be seeing at least one very cool new smartphone in the market, where you can say that it is RIM’s last stand where their Blackberry brand name is concerned. The BlackBerry 10 platform will be launched then, and we do hope to see some pretty cool hardware end up as part of the equation. Well, the folks over at the FCC have apparently put an unnamed BlackBerry device that sports a RFF91LW model number through the paces, while giving their collective nods of approval for it to play nice with AT&T’s LTE and GSM bands, in addition to a few other international frequencies, of course.

This handset’s label sample has been censored (how convenient), but the FCC reports do point that there were, at a minimum, three different devices from RIM which were powered by BlackBerry OS 10.0.9. Could these FCC-approved handsets actually be the “L-series” BlackBerry Z10, or is it a false lead in the sense where it is part of the Dev Alpha device range that RIM dished out to developers? Stay tuned to find out.
