Sprint Will Only Offer Blackberry Q10, No Plans For Z10

Sprint Will Only Offer Blackberry Q10, No Plans For Z10Blackberry devices in the past were known for its keyboard feature, and while Blackberry is looking to continue that tradition with the Q10, the Canadian company’s current flagship device is the Z10, a full touchscreen Blackberry 10 smartphone. We expect that many carriers will offer the Z10, but it seems that in Sprint’s case, that will not be so. According to Blackberry spokesman, Mark Elliott, it seems that while Sprint is more than happy to carry a Blackberry 10 device as part of its portfolio, the Blackberry 10 device in question will not be the Z10, but the Q10 instead.

It is unclear as to why Sprint has decided to go with the Q10 instead of the Z10, especially since the Z10 would be pretty much the epitome of what Blackberry has been working so hard to achieve in the past year or so. In any case assuming Sprint has no plans to change their mind, subscribers looking to get their hands on the Q10 will probably have to wait until May 2013. If the Z10 is more your phone, you’ll probably have it find it elsewhere.

T-Mobile Planning Mid-March Release Of BlackBerry Z10 To Be First Among U.S. Carriers

T Mobile Planning Mid March Release Of BlackBerry Z10 To Be First Among U.S. Carriers

During the BlackBerry 10 launch event in New York City last week, BlackBerry announced its BlackBerry Z10 & Q10 would be available this March, although the Q10 may require a bit more time in the oven before it’s made available for consumers. Official release dates would be announced by BlackBerry’s carrier partners, one of which is announcing today it plans to be one of the first to make the BlackBerry Z10 available to its customers as soon as possible.

T-Mobile USA Head of Business Sales Frank Sickinger spoke with Bloomberg today and revealed the BlackBerry Z10 is “more stable than … anticipated,” which could mean a faster launch on its network over its competitors. Sickinger believes the BlackBerry Z10 could land on T-Mobile by mid-March.

Considering a leaked T-Mobile roadmap was released yesterday that highlighted the BlackBerry Z10′s launch date as March 27th, then Sickinger’s statement rings a bit of truth if the device is in fact performing better than the company originally expected.

BlackBerry 10 Launch Breaks Records In Canada, U.K.

BlackBerry 10 Launch Breaks Records In Canada, U.K.

It looks as though yesterday’s report of demand for the BlackBerry Z10 was spot on as BlackBerry is announcing some good news in regards to its start in the U.K. and Canada.

According to BlackBerry, its new BlackBerry Z10 has been breaking records for the company left and right. In Canada, where the Z10 was made available yesterday, BlackBerry had its “best day ever for the first day of a launch of a new BlackBerry smartphone.” The Z10′s launch in Canada was “more than 50% better than any other launch day in our history in Canada.”

Over in the U.K., the BlackBerry Z10 has also seen some impressive sales as BlackBerry has seen “close to three times our best performance ever for the first week of sales for a BlackBerry smartphone.”

The BlackBerry Z10 is expected to be released in the U.S. this March, while its physical keyboard sibling, the BlackBerry Q10, shouldn’t be expected possibly until May or June. In the meantime, you U.S. readers can read our review of the BlackBerry Z10 and our hands-on of the BlackBerry Q10 to help whet your appetite for when these two devices are finally released.

BlackBerry 10 March release: far too late

When the company formerly known as RIM first announced that they’d be working on the system that would eventually become BlackBerry 10, it was a year and a half ago. It takes a long time to develop an operating system, even when it’s a mobile operating system meant to operate with far fewer abilities than a full-powered desktop OS – but that’s not where BlackBerry went wrong. The company known as BlackBerry fell apart the moment they announced a new operating system more than a week before they showed it working in the real world.

blackberry_z10_review_sg_18-580x412

The original name for BlackBerry 10 was BBX – lost to the company when they discovered someone else that thought to put those three letters together before RIM did. Each time an incident like this happened over the past year and a half, RIM lost another brick of confidence in the public. They’ve had so much bad press between the announcement of BBX and here in 2013 where they’ve announced the OS (again) that it should be considered no less than a miracle that they’ve gotten so very many developers to join their team with BlackBerry 10 apps.

Of course about 40% of those apps are simply converted iterations of Android apps, but who’s counting? Giving away free special edition smartphones to developer initiatives helps!

Now while the all-touch half of the BlackBerry 10 party is already out in Canada and the UK with the device called BlackBerry Z10, it’s been made clear that the earliest we’ll see BlackBerry 10 in the wild in the USA will be the end of March. This is also only the Z10 piece of the puzzle. The BlackBerry Q10, that being the QWERTY keyboard-toting BlackBerry 10 hero device here at the start of the OS, has been confirmed by BlackBerry to be hitting the market in April.

According to the Associated Press article published with Mercury News, BlackBerry’s CEO Thorsten Heins has suggested an 8-10 week window between the launch of the Z10 and the Q10. That would place the release for the Q10 back to May/June. Just a few months shy of two years after the first announcement of BlackBerry 10!

blackberry_z10_iphone_5_0-580x388

That’s no way to work in this modern mobile-minded market. A successful company like Samsung releases a new smartphone every few months – weeks in some cases – and refreshes a piece of hardware at least once a year (we’re nearly up to the Samsung Galaxy S IV here in 2013 after a new Galaxy S hero phone for several years in a row.) Apple has gotten to the point where they release a new iteration of their one singular handset, the iPhone, every single year without fail.

Will you join the BlackBerry 10 party with a Z10 at the end of March or the beginning of April if it does indeed see release in the USA? How about a BlackBerry Q10 several weeks after that?

BlackBerry Q10 Could Arrive In US In May Or June

BlackBerry Q10 Could Arrive In US In May Or JuneIt is rather weird to refer to RIM as BlackBerry now, considering how we’ve been so used to using both words in a single sentence. While BlackBerry has already announced the BlackBerry Q10 smartphone at the end of last month in New York City, they remained silent on the actual release date of the device. So what are we end users supposed to do? BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins did drop some hints, and if they are true to his word, it might mean the US would receive the BlackBerry Q10 sometime in May or June, and that, my friends, is still a long way off.

We do know that the BlackBerry Q10 will be arriving on AT&T, Sprint and Verizon at some time this year, so we will just have to play the waiting game with BlackBerry. Well, you can always check out our BlackBerry Z10 review as you wait, so that you are able to make a better decision in due time whether to take the plunge to a full touchscreen smartphone experience compared to a device with a physical QWERTY keyboard that is a throwback to BlackBerry’s heydays.

BlackBerry Q10 may not launch in US until May or June

When BlackBerry held a launch event for its new mobile OS at the end of last month, it unveiled two handsets that will be running it: the BlackBerry Z10 and the BlackBerry Q10. While the Z10 is a touchscreen-only phone, the Q10 has a physical keyboard remiscient of the devices that made BlackBerry famous. If you’ve been holding out for the Q10 and you live in the US, we’re sorry to say that you might have to wait until May or June to get your hands on one.

BlackBerryQ10

In an interview with the Associated Press (via ABC News), BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins gave us a rough idea of when we can expect the Q10 to launch in the US. He didn’t give specifics, but he did say that the Q10 probably won’t start popping up on carrier shelves until 8 to 10 weeks after the Z10 has launched. With the Z10 not arriving until mid-March, it could be summer by the time we see the Q10.

Of course, what Heins said isn’t set in stone. It’s more up to the carriers than anything else, as they will all want to test it before deciding to offer it. So, there’s a possibility that the Q10 will launch at some carriers in the US earlier than this May-June window. In the end, we’ll have to wait for each carrier to announce their own release dates for the BlackBerry Q10.

It certainly sounds like the BlackBerry Q10 has a lot to live up to, as we’ve been hearing that the Z10 has been selling out in some areas in the UK and posting excellent pre-order numbers in Canada and UAE. Reviews seem to be generally positive as well, so if BlackBerry can hit it out of the park with the Q10, the company will be in good shape. Be sure to check out SlashGear’s hands-on with the BlackBerry Q10 to hear our initial impressions!

BlackBerry Z10 is new flagship for…BlackBerry

Yes sir, the RIM (Research In Motion) company from Canada that millions have come to know (and for some, subsequently love), has changed its name to reflect the device that made them famous – BlackBerry. Yup, it will be plain BlackBerry from now on, and this morning, the Canadian company has just announced a couple of new smartphones from their stable which will of course, run on their also recently launched BlackBerry 10 operating system. The flagship model between the two would be the all-touch device known as the BlackBerry Z10.

Of course, initial impressions of the device have proved to be generally favorable, although there are concerns about the battery life (or rather, the lack of it) for the BlackBerry Z10, but perhaps things might change in the future as BlackBerry picks up the pace in time to come (assuming they have enough time to help turn the situation around for them). Just what kind of hardware does the BlackBerry Z10 pack underneath the hood when it comes to other comparable devices that hail from the Android, iOS and Windows Phone platforms?

Right now, we do know that the BlackBerry Z10 will cost $599 thereabouts as an unsubsidized smartphone in the US, while our friends living across the pond will be able to get it free on contract. Will such a deal be made available as carriers like AT&T and Sprint have already embraced the BlackBerry Z10? Only time will tell.

It tips the scales at 138 grams and measures 5.13” x 2.6” x 0.37”, sporting a 4.2-inch full touchscreen LCD display at a pixel density that outdoes the iPhone 5, Google Nexus 4 and Nokia Lumia 920 – barely, at 356 ppi and carrying a resolution count of 1280 x 768 which your eyes will definitely fall in love with.

The 1,800mAh battery will be accompanied by 16GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded via a microSD memory card slot, while the back carries an 8-megapixel camera with a front-facing 2-megapixel shooter that also does High Definition video recording. A dual-core 1.5GHz processor runs proceedings from within with 2GB RAM helping it chug along. Do you think that you would make the BlackBerry Z10 plunge when it arrives?

BlackBerry Q10 Headed To Sprint

sprint logo 1 BlackBerry Q10 Headed To SprintSprint intends to let you enjoy 4G LTE connectivity with their latest device from the company formally known as RIM (with a new moniker being just BlackBerry), the BlackBerry Q10 which was announced earlier this morning in New York City. The BlackBerry Q10 will run on the spanking new BlackBerry 10 operating system, and is said to give consumers a run for their hard earned money with “Truly Unlimited” 4G LTE data, in addition to text messages and calls, of course, to any mobile without the scourges of metering, throttling, and overages, as long as it remains within the Sprint network.

The BlackBerry Q10 prides itself in being the maiden BlackBerry 10-powered smartphone that will come with a physical QWERTY keyboard as well as offer touchscreen capability, delivering a far more smart experience which will adapt to a your needs as time passes by. Pricing details of the BlackBerry Q10 for Sprint remains to be confirmed, but we should get a sniff of things in due time. [Press Release]

After taking a look at the BlackBerry Z10, we wanted to shift our focus on the Q10 since we know many BlackBerry owners out there still love their phones to have physical keyboards. The Q10 gives you the best of both worlds as not only does it offer a QWERTY keyboard for you to poke at, but the device runs BlackBerry 10, which means you’ll have an experience just as good as those Z10 folk!

BlackBerry’s Most Important Phone Isn’t Its Flagship

BlackBerry announced two phones today, but it’s clear which is the favorite son. The Z10 looks like a winner; it’s got brains and body enough to face the iPhones and Galaxy S IIIs of the world head-on. It’s got a release date and a price. It’s a phone any company would be proud to call a flagship. In fact, its only downside is that it’s totally irrelevant. Whoops! More »
