BlackBerry Z10 heads to AT&T on March 22 tips sources

The BlackBerry Z10 smartphone has been available in Europe for a while now. Sales for the device started off well enough, and then fell off significantly. A few days ago, we reported that many European carriers were slashing the price of the Z10 in an attempt to make it more appealing to customers. Price cuts this early on don’t bode well for BlackBerry and its hopes for the Z10 and the BlackBerry 10 operating system.

Customers in the US that are interested in the new BlackBerry smartphone may appreciate the fact that the launch date has been leaked for AT&T. The phone will come to AT&T in the United States on March 22. The launch date comes from sources claiming to be familiar with BlackBerry and AT&T’s plans, but those sources asked to remain anonymous because the release date hasn’t been announced officially.

The United States is a big market for BlackBerry, which reportedly earns about a fifth of its revenue within the US. The reason the phone didn’t launch in the US at the same time it launched in Europe and about 20 other countries was because of the longer testing times required by carriers in the United States. A spokesman for AT&T also declined to confirm the launch date for the BlackBerry Z10.

The upside to having a delay on the launch of the smartphone in the United States is that BlackBerry has already released an update for the BlackBerry 10 software. The update fixes issues with the battery life and lowlight camera performance for the Z10.

US DoD Reportedly Holding Off On Blackberry 10 Testing Due To Insufficient Budget

US DoD Reportedly Holding Off On Blackberry 10 Testing Due To Insufficient BudgetThe Blackberry platform used to be the choice of governments and corporate entities alike, although lately that does not seem to be the case as iOS and Android started to become more favored options. While some governments are starting to explore the possibility by adopting Blackberry Z10s, the Pentagon might not be giving Blackberry a fair chance. According to a report, it seems that the Department of Defense will be cutting their budget for device testing of Blackberry 10. This is because of the 11% budget pullback due to the federal sequester, and since Blackberry 10 has yet to be officially released in the US, the DoD is said to be spending most of their budget on testing of Android and iOS.

According to a report by Electronista, their source reportedly told them “We’re almost done with the iOS and Android platform testing procedure, so that’s fine […] BlackBerry is going to have to suck it up and not get properly tested for a while. Maybe never.” This is definitely not great news for Blackberry, especially since like we said earlier, they were renowned for their security and use by governments and enterprises. So for the DoD to not consider their latest platform is a huge blow to them. Since there has not been any official statement released by the DoD, we guess you should take this with a grain of salt for now.

Blackberry Z10 Rumored For 22nd March Release For AT&T

Blackberry Z10 Rumored For 22nd March Release For AT&TIt was previously rumored that the Blackberry Z10 could see a release on the 15th of March on AT&T, possibly giving AT&T the advantage of being the first carrier in the US to offer the device. While it remains to be seen if the rumored 15th of March date will pan out, here’s another date you might want to add to your calendar, although we’re guessing the previously rumored date might be preferred. Why is that so? Well according to this particular rumor, the Blackberry Z10 could be released on AT&T on the 22nd of March, a good week after the initial rumored date.

This is according to Hugo Miller at Bloomberg who shed some light on the new date. However the 22nd of March date isn’t a stretch since earlier rumors have pointed to that date. However that doesn’t mean that nothing will take place on the 15th of March. While the phone might not be up for sale on the 15th, it is speculated that perhaps the device will be announced by AT&T and that pre-orders could begin on that day itself. Then again with the Samsung Galaxy S4 being announced on the 14th, perhaps a later announcement date for the Z10 might make sense, especially if they don’t want to be drowned out by the excitement. Either way check back with us on the 15th and 22nd of March for the details, if there are any to be had.

Blackberry Z10 Sold Out In 2 Days In India

Blackberry Z10 Sold Out In 2 Days In IndiaThere have been reports by some retailers that the Blackberry Z10 is selling pretty well, and this sentiment was shared by Blackberry’s CEO, Thorsten Heins, who said that the sales of the device exceeded their expectations. Exceeded by how much, exactly? Well as far as India is concerned, Heins revealed that the Blackberry Z10 has managed to sell out in 2 days, a pretty impressive feat we have to admit. However Heins was unable to provide figures before their earnings call on the 28th of March, so we guess we will have to wait until then to see if the device selling out is merely because of low shipments or because it was truly well-received.

Speaking at the Communitech Tech Leadership Conference, Heins was quoted as saying, “We shipped into the channel product that we thought would have been good for at least five days and I got an emergency call from our manager in India, saying that they were sold out in two days…” In any case it looks like the Z10 is kicking off the way Blackberry had intended, and hopefully when the figures are released it will be in line with all the reports we’ve been hearing lately. In the meantime you can check out our review of the Blackberry Z10 if you’d like to learn more about Blackberry’s latest flagship device.

Back to BlackBerry: closing time

Back to BlackBerry closing time

Time’s up. I’ve now had a full month to call the BlackBerry Z10 my very own and use it as my everyday device. I’ve had the opportunity to use it in every likely scenario, including a nine-day trip to Spain for Mobile World Congress. Now comes the moment of truth: have I become a BlackBerry convert? Is the Z10 my new daily driver?

Unfortunately, it’s not. But before the BlackBerry fan base breaks out the torches and forms mobs, this isn’t a denunciation of the phone or its OS. Quite the opposite, in fact. I decided to pursue this experiment for a few reasons: it’s the best way to learn a brand-new operating system, I genuinely am interested in how well it handles regular day-to-day use and a month gives me plenty of time to form a solid idea of the platform’s potential and future. Is it possible to have a great deal of admiration for a phone while simultaneously rejecting it as my daily driver? Yes. After the break I sum up the highlights of BB10: what works, what doesn’t and what simply needs a little nudge or two.

Blackberry’s CEO Says Sales Of Blackberry 10 Exceeded Their “Ambitious Expectations”

Blackberrys CEO Says Sales Of Blackberry 10 Exceeded Their Ambitious ExpectationsIt’s usually expected of CEOs to stand behind their company and their products, so we guess it’s not surprising to hear that Blackberry’s CEO, Thorsten Heins, is proudly standing behind the launch of Blackberry 10. Speaking to Spanish newspaper Expansion (via Bloomberg), Heins expressed that the sales of Blackberry 10 devices last month were beyond the company’s “ambitious expectations”. He also claims that production of their products have increased and that feedback has generally been positive for older Blackberry customers, as well as Blackberry users coming from different platforms.

This seems to be line with a report from yesterday that suggested that 45% of new Blackberry 10 customers made the jump from a different brand. Blackberry 10 appears to be doing quite well for themselves and retailers have claimed that the Z10 smartphone has been selling very well. In fact a Canadian retailer claims that it has outsold the Samsung Galaxy S3 and Apple’s iPhone 5. Some speculate that this demand could be high because production of the Z10 was low, meaning that there wasn’t enough units to go around, thus creating the false sense of demand.

In any case if you were thinking about getting the Blackberry Z10, be sure to check out our comprehensive review before deciding!

Blackberry India Claims 45% Of Z10 Customers Come From A Different Brand

Blackberry India Claims 45% Of Z10 Customers Come From A Different BrandWe’re sure that prior to the launch of Blackberry 10, there were some Blackberry users who decided to wait it out by using another platform. On the flipside we’re sure that there were some iOS or Android users who saw the Z10 and liked what it had to offer. While it remains to be seen how this plays out in a global context, it looks like India is enjoying a fair bit of success with the Blackberry Z10. Speaking to The Hindu Business Line, Managing Director of Blackberry India, Sunil Dutt, revealed that they are already running out of stock for the Z10.

He also claims that Blackberry had to increase its device forecast by 40% in the region, and that 45% of Blackberry 10 customers were “unique” customers who switched from a different brand. He is presumably talking about brands like Apple, Samsung, HTC, LG, and etc. The fact that the Blackberry Z10 has been enjoying success in India seems to be in line with what we’ve heard about from a Canadian retailer, although it remains to be seen if the stock shortages are due to low initial product or genuine interest. However the 45% figure of customers jumping ship is definitely worth noting. Do you guys agree with the numbers? Are you finding more people from iOS, Android or Windows Phone switching to the Z10?

AT&T BlackBerry Z10 To Arrive First Among The Carriers?

AT&T BlackBerry Z10 To Arrive First Among The Carriers?Yes, it is already more than a month since the all-touch BlackBerry Z10 was revealed to the world at the BlackBerry 10 event in New York City, but since then, there has been no concrete date as to when the particular device is going to hit the market. Thing is, the first forerunner is said to be T-Mobile, but the latest round of rumors seem to have presented potential customers with a new pack leader – that is, AT&T, where it seems the March 15th release date for the BlackBerry Z10 is already confirmed.

Do bear in mind that whatever you read here should always be taken with a pinch of salt – rumors only of course, and not the factual reports. March 15th is definitely far more favorable compared to the original rollout date of the BlackBerry Z10 on March 27th. Ultimately, I think it is not too important as to who rolls out what first, as long as the device itself is confirmed for a release and has already gotten FCC approval, that should be good enough. What do you think?
