Designer Alessandro Savelli Unveils $57,000 Android Smartphone

Designer Alessandro Savelli Unveils $57,000 Android SmartphoneWe have heard complaints in the past about how smartphones, like the iPhone, are so expensive. Granted they are pretty pricey, but they look almost cheap by comparison when compared to devices like the one pictured above. The rather gaudy looking piece of hardware is an Android smartphone that has been designed by Swiss designer, Alessandro Savelli. There will be a few variations of this phone, all made from luxury materials, but the one pictured above features an 18-carat rose gold casing, along with some precision stones, all of which will set you back £35,000 which is roughly $57,000 after conversion.

Of course not every handset by Savelli will be that bling, as some of his other models feature more “toned down” looks, such as those crafted with alligator skin instead, which we’re sure the folks at PETA will have something to say about! In terms of hardware, the website wasn’t very specific and revealed that it would feature 32GB of storage, the usual Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity options, and will run on Android, but did not mention which version, but will have access to Google apps such as Maps, Gmail, YouTube, and etc. Savelli’s series of smartphones will be available for purchase via Harrods. So, any takers?

Aston Martin Android smartphone is expensive but not practical

I know that as a general rule of thumb, you get what you paid for, but there are moments when some of the more expensive things in life are not necessarily the most practical. Case in point, this particular smartphone from Aston Martin that runs on the Android operating system.

The kind of money you pay for buys you just the brand name and the phone certainly does not live up to its name in terms of speed, considering how you will have to fork out anywhere from $1290 up to $1590 ( depending on color options) only to end up with a processor that plods along at 800MHz on a single core. Yes sir, it does feel as though it is 2010 all over again, doesn’t it?

Other paltry specifications include 256MB RAM, a 5-megapixel camera at the back, a 3.2-inch HVGA screen and one of the older builds of Android 2.3 Gingerbread – we are talking about a version that even predates Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread. Don’t you think that this is a rather sad excuse for a phone in this day and age? Seems to me as though it hurts Aston Martin’s brand more than promote it.

    Gresso’s $3000 bumber case for iPhone 5

Today is probably the best time for iPhone accessory makers to promote their product or brand. In this case, Gresso is coming out with a $3000 iPhone 5 bumper case aimed at the 0.1%. I’ve seen aluminum case like this go for $250 in Japan and I thought that it was already ridiculous. However Gresso has up the ante with a $3000 titanium case that will be manufactured in a limited edition (999 units).

It is said that the case of this titanium bumber case is very nice and comes with silk and all. Yep, I guess that Gresso can afford this. At $12/lbs, Titatium costs less than a filet mignon, so the margin can be rather nice if Gresso can find 999 customer to generate a revenue of nearly $3M. Let’s hope that the phone doesn’t land on the screen :)

King Louis XVI inspired gold-plated PC

Who would have thought that someone who lived (OK, so he is royalty, I will grant him that) in the 16th century would be able to wield influence from beyond the grave in terms of design, culminating in the gold-plated PC that you see above? Talk about merging not only the old, but the ancient with modern day technology. George Chirita was inspired by King Louis XVI, where he shared, “It was about creating a computer which was much more stylish, in harmony and concorde with the interior design, but in the end I realised the computer had become a pretext to create a real decorative object to enhance our surroundings.”

Looks are not all this gold-plated PC is famous for, but rather, it is capable of churning out enough processing power to get the job done. Of course, don’t expect this to beat high end gaming PCs, but if you are going to just use this to check your emails and watch YouTube videos, it should pack more than enough to get the job done, and done well. Some of Chirita’s customers are unsurprisingly European royalty, and individuals with high net worth from China and the Middle East. Prices start from 17,000 Euros and goes north from there.

Gresso Cruiser Air Black going for a cool $1,700

I am not quite sure about you, but when it comes to spending money on a new phone, I would say the ceiling price would be approximately $600 thereabouts for an unlocked unit, and at that price point, the pocket already hurts like hell – which leads me to ask the question, would you want to shell out $1,700 for the Gresso Cruiser Air Black? This new exclusive luxury handset from Gresso will definitely turn heads with its design and price point, although you would not get too much substance underneath the hood.

In fact, all the good money you threw at it during its procurement was meant to compensate more for the outside than inside, as the Gresso Cruiser Air Black will feature a sad 2″ 240 x 320 pixel display that does a mere 256K colors, a 2-megapixel camera and 30MB of internal memory. Thankfully, the engineers at Gresso had some common sense to throw in a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes, although that is limited to just 2GB. It will be powered by the Series S40 operating system, and will play nice on a triple-band GSM network.

Makes you wonder whether this was a phone that got stuck in a time machine, no? It does seem to be a phone for folks who have more money than sense.
