Blizzard’s Project Titan Unlikely To Be Subscription-Based

Blizzards Project Titan Unlikely To Be Subscription BasedAvid Blizzard fans will have probably heard that the company is currently working on a new MMO codenamed “Titan”, which last we heard has potentially been delayed. In any case whilst the details of the game remain a mystery and a secret, its existence is pretty well-known and thanks to Blizzard’s President, Mike Morhaime in an investor’s call today, it was revealed that the game will most likely not be taking the subscription route unlike Blizzard’s current MMO, World of Warcraft.

According to Morhaime, “We’re in the process of selecting a new direction for the project and re-envisioning what we want the game to be […] While we can’t talk about the details yet, it is unlikely to be a subscription-based MMORPG.” He then went on to reiterate that there has not been any official release date or a projected release date yet, despite the rumors which suggested 2016. In any case if Blizzard is not taking the subscription route, we’re assuming free-to-play could be one of the models that the developer is considering.

Many MMOs have taken the F2P route and given Blizzard’s popularity and massive fan base, we expect that whichever direction the company takes they will definitely have customers.

Diablo 3 Expansion Could Be Announced At Gamescom

Diablo 3 Expansion Could Be Announced At GamescomDiablo 3 gamers, chances are you have already completed the game several times over, maxed out all your character levels and right now you’re probably just farming for more gear or have stopped playing the game entirely. Well if you were hoping for an expansion to the game, it seems that you might be getting some details about it come Gamescom 2013. This is thanks to a recent bout of emails being sent out to various sites that informed them that there will be a Diablo 3 discussion panel held at Gamescom, and in that email it reads that Blizzard will be making a “special announcement”.

It was previously speculated that Blizzard will only introduce the expansion in November at the developer’s own event, BlizzCon, which they normally do, so it is interesting that they might have chosen Gamescon to announce it. Blizzard’s own Nick Carpenter’s recent tweet seemingly confirms this as it reads, “wrapped another amazing cinematic. Can’t wait to show the world!” In any case hopefully we are looking at a Diablo 3 expansion here, as opposed to maybe a card game based on the Diablo universe, but either way be sure to check back with us during Gamescom for all the details!

StarCraft 2 2.0.10 Patch Adds eSport Features And Color Blind Mode

Playing StarCraft 2 undoubtedly requires a lot of skill, so much so that the game and its predecessor have both enjoyed the competition circuit and are part of eSports. Well the good news for StarCraft 2 gamers who take the game pretty seriously in the competitive sense, Blizzard will be rolling out patch 2.0.10 this week which will be adding your usual bout of bug fixes, balances, along with some new eSports features and even a color blind mode that will assist players who might be afflicted with the problem.

Blizzard has updated the UI that will allow players to customize the Observe Interface and let them choose between a more detailed layout, or a more lightweight one. The new UI will also support additional zoom levels that will allow observers to gain a wider perspective along with a “Units Lost” overlay. Scrubbing the replays has also been made easier as Blizzard has made some improvements that will allow observers watching replays to find particular areas within a multiplayer match. If you’d like to learn more, you can hit up the official StarCraft 2 blog or check out the video above for the details.

Diablo 3′s Auction House Had A Detrimental Effect, According To Diablo & Diablo 2 Lead Designer

Diablo 3s Auction House Had A Detrimental Effect, According To Diablo & Diablo 2 Lead DesignerWhen Blizzard announced the auction house feature in Diablo 3, we guess it would be safe to say that there were at least two sets of gamers – one that did not mind the auction house and actually welcomed it, and the other that felt that this would detract from the fun that comes with grinding levels and farming for hours to land that super-legendary piece of armor or weapon. Unsurprisingly it seems that even within Blizzard, not everyone was a fan of the auction house and Diablo and Diablo 2’s lead designer, Stieg Hedlund, felt that it had a detrimental effect on the game.

Speaking to PCGamer, Hedlund was quoted as saying, “I think it had detrimental effects on gameplay throughout […] They did want to reserve a certain tier of loot for the auction house, and therefore it wasn’t dropping in the game with the kind of frequency that people were looking for it.” Despite that, Hedlund also expressed his understanding of why Blizzard implemented the feature in the first place, which according to him was more like a reward to the game developers who put in a lot of effort and time into creating the game.

This is not the first time we’ve heard criticism of the auction house as former game director, Jay Wilson, had previously expressed how he thought the auction house had hurt the game.

Watch StarCraft 2 Played From A Professional’s Perspective

Playing real-time strategy (RTS) games like StarCraft 2 involves a lot of action from the player, and staying idle and clicking lazily will not win you games. This is so important to the point where prowess has even begun to be measured in actions-per-minute, or APM, whereby the top gamers usually manage to clock some impressive numbers. Of course high APM doesn’t necessarily equate to being good, but if you’ve always wondered how the pros of StarCraft 2, the video above was taken by GomTV’s Khaldor in which we basically get to look from a first person’s point of view at how one of the best players in StarCraft 2, STX_INnoVation, plays the game. Needless to say STX_INnoVation’s speed is incredible and breath taking, so if you have a few minutes to spare and want to have your mind blown, be sure to check it out in the video above.
