Diablo 3 PvP patch remains inactive for now

There is a fair number of Diablo 3 gamers who have gotten bored of the game, with someone actually maxing out the recent Paragon Levels, so what’s next to keep folks interested in the title? How about Player vs Player (PVP)? It seems that some Diablo fanatics did pick up a hidden addition within the latest patch that comes in the form of a button which will just light up but does not do anything, although the kicker when said button is active is to lead folks to the Public Test Realm and enjoy some insane PvP bouts. This is where the kids gloves are taken off, and you can for once be proud of the gear you wear as you vanquish your opponent(s), in addition to tweaking your armory to make sure that you have the most well balanced character out there.

Blizzard had this to say concerning PvP, “We’re going full steam ahead on the PvP patch, which will also include a number of game changes unrelated to PvP, and we look forward to sharing more about that as we get closer to opening up a PTR, where you’ll be able to test out our changes — and enjoy mercilessly slaughtering one another.”

Are you looking forward to PvP in Diablo 3 in the future?

StarCraft 2: Heart Of The Swarm unit details unveiled

You know for sure that a storyline as rich as StarCraft’s is definitely not going to remain just like that, as there are plenty more arcs for one to explore and tap, just like looking for new stomping grounds in order to harvest additional vespene gas. Having said that, additional unit details about StarCraft 2: Heart Of The Swarm has been uncovered, where among them would include a couple of new Zerg units; namely the Viper and the Swarm Host. The former represents a large dragonfly and will need a Spawning Pool, an Infestation Pit and eventually a Hive as a prerequisite. As for its abilities, you would be able to consume 200 life of a friendly building over 20 seconds, converting that into 50 energy. How’s that for a quick charge?

Abduct costs 75 energy, but this allows the Viper to pull a friendly or enemy unit to the Viper’s location thanks to its harpoon-like tongue. Definitely a game changer when you remove units from a certain death, which bodes well for the gas-and-mineral economy.

As for Blinding Cloud, that results in a 10 second cloud which reduces the attack range of biological and mechanical units to just melee range.

Diablo 3 gets new Crowd Control changes

Just a few days ago, we talked about how Diablo 3 patch 1.0.5 (which has yet to be released, mind you) will fix the Trail of Cinders, and this time around, Blizzard’s developer journal has revealed that there are imminent changes coming your way as to how Crowd Control (CC) works in Diablo 3. In order to eke more fun out of Crowd Control skills at higher levels, Blizzard will be making some modifications to these skills. To put it in a nutshell, monsters will feature a “CC resistance” which is assigned on a per-monster basis.

As an example, the CC resistance will naturally kick off at 0%, and for each additional 1 second CC that is applied to the monster, the monster will be on the receiving end of 10% CC resistance. Monsters will lose lose 10% of their CC resistance for each second that they are not CC’d. Elite monster CC resistance has been capped at the current reduction values which are already active for Elites, and in plain English, that would be 35% in Normal, 50% in Nightmare,
65% in Hell and 65% in Inferno. How do you think this will change the way you enjoy your game?

Diablo 3 patch 1.0.5 gets Trail of Cinders fix

Diablo 3Right now, Diablo 3 is on patch 1.0.4, but it is said that Diablo 3 patch 1.0.5 will be able to fix what is currently wrong with the Trail of Cinders, where nerfs damage from 1500% over three seconds will be reduced to just 300% over three seconds. I guess when patch 1.0.5 finally rolls out (it has yet to be determined when), the rune will no longer deal five times the additional damage than intended – meaning Blizzard has already caught on to this particular issue.

Blizzard community manager Lylirra explained why there was no immediate fix for the bug, saying, “While this bug was discovered very quickly after 1.0.4 released and is capable of being hotfixed, we didn’t want to move forward with the fix without giving players proper notice. We also know that players are having fun using Trail of Cinders in their builds, so – although this is an important issue we want to address – we’re opting to wait for the next client patch to make any adjustments.”

I guess patience is the only way out, but while waiting, you might as well take full advantage of this bug when you still can.

Iranian Players Banished from World Of Warcraft Thanks to US Sanctions

World of Warcraft publisher Blizzard has recently blocked Iranian fans of the role-playing game from being able to access its servers. The blockage comes as Blizzard makes moves to ensure that it is complying with US federal law having to do with trade restrictions and economic sanctions. Exactly why it’s taken so long for Blizzard to comply with US law is unknown.

What we do know is that Iranian fans of the game have started to pepper Blizzard message boards with complaints that they were unable to log onto game servers. These Iranian players were told recently that the reason they can’t get on servers has to do with US law. Blizzard hasn’t offered an indication of how many players were affected by the ban. However, Blizzard says that only a small percentage of its players were affected.

Blizzard wrote in an e-mail to affected players, “United States trade restrictions and economic sanction laws prohibit Blizzard from doing business with residents of certain nations, including Iran,” the company said in an email sent to players. Blizzard tightened up its procedures to ensure compliance with these laws, and players connecting from the affected nations are restricted from access to Blizzard games and services.”

Blizzard Employee Auctions Off Rare 5-Year Sword: Start Farming for Dollars

The eagle-eyed GameSniped spotted an unusual bit of loot for sale at the real money auction house known as eBay. It’s a sword, but not just any sword: it was given to a Blizzard Entertainment employee in recognition of his or her 5 years with the company. Apparently the sword isn’t binding, so now you have to chance to wield the sword even if you weren’t the first one to find it.

blizzard entertainment 5 year sword

Blizzard holds an annual “Swords and Shields” ceremony to honor longtime employees. Five years of service qualifies for a sword, 10 years a shield and 15 a ring. According to Blizzard the design of the sword changes every year, which makes this item even rarer (if it’s the real deal, that is). However the shield and ring designs stay the same. I haven’t seen the ring but the shield is pretty sweet. It’s a replica of the shield on Lordaeron’s coat of arms.

Bid at least $510 (USD) on eBay to have a shot at earning the sword. Its rack does match the ones shown on Blizzard’s gallery, but I cannot vouch for the authenticity of this product. The auctioneer did say that the sword was given just last year, March 18, 2011 to be exact. That should help you verify if the loot is worth your hard farmed dollars.

Blizzard publishes World of Warcraft Patch 5.0.4 “Survival Guide”

World of Warcraft players, the other, if you remember, we reported that in the upcoming patch 5.0.4, players will be able to access all races in the game (save for the Pandaran which will be unlocked when the game has been released) regardless which expansion they own. Basically what this means is that if you have only bought the Burning Crusade expansion, you will still be able to play as either the Worgen or Goblin race which was introduced in Cataclysm. In any case Blizzard has recently released a page on their World of Warcraft website dubbed the “5.0.4 Survival Guide” and it basically gives players a very brief preview as to what they can expect. This includes the changes to classes, the talent system, currency conversion and more. If you’re planning on continuing your adventures in World of Warcraft then perhaps this Survival Guide might be worth checking out.

You’re Being Lied To: Windows 8 Isn’t Bad for Gaming [Windows 8]

Windows 8 is a threat to computer gaming. It’s a “catastrophe,” if you listen to Gabe Newell at Valve, or heads at a bunch of other major gaming companies. But the thing is, even though everyone in video games is yelling about Windows 8, they’re not actually yelling about, well, gaming. More »

Blizzard releases previews of Mists of Pandaria’s new Battlegrounds

We know that there are some of you World of Warcraft gamers out there who are probably pretty darn excited about the upcoming expansion, Mists of Pandaria. Well if you didn’t want to spoil the game for yourself with the in-game cinematics, perhaps Blizzard’s recently released previews of the game might not be as much of a spoiler. First up, the company has released a couple of previews on the new Battlegrounds PVP gamers can look forward to in Mists of Pandaria. This includes the Temple of Kotmogu and the Silvershard Mines.

As expected of new games and new expansions, new enemy units are also a part of it and Blizzard has since updated its Mists of Pandaria Bestiary page with new monsters that players will encounter in their journey. So far the game is shaping up to be pretty interesting and for some of us, the 25th of September feels like forever. If you’d like to learn more, pop on over to links the above for the details.

Blizzard has no plans to raise the trial level cap of World of Warcraft

World of WarcraftDespite World of Warcraft’s level cap being 85 at the moment (90 when Mists of Pandaria comes out), the free trial of the game still has its cap stuck at 20. With earlier expansions such as Burning Crusade where the cap was 70, being limited to level 20 wasn’t so bad and the disparity wasn’t that great. If you were hoping that Blizzard would increase the level cap for the free trial to maybe 25 or 30, well you’re out of luck. Speaking to the folks at CVG, Blizzard’s John Lagrave was quoted as saying, “You know, we looked at it lots, we looked at whether Level 20 would give you a good sense of what our game is, and we think it does. There’s also a lot of things in the game that are special that we want to reserve for our paying customers.” So there you have it, if you thought that Blizzard might try to making the game more tantalizing to lure new customers, especially with its declining subscription, it does not appear to be the case.
