World Of Warcraft: Warlords Of Draenor Expansion Announced

After much speculation, it turns out that the trademark was legit and that the next World of Warcraft expansion is indeed called, Warlords of Draenor. For gamers who might not have played the original Warcraft: Orcs and Humans, there might be some aspects of the game that might be lost on you, but for faithful followers of the Warcraft franchise, there will be some fond memories right there. The expansion will introduce two factions warring against each other: the Draenei (who made their appearance in the Burning Crusade expansion), and the iron orcs who have inhabited the world of Draenor alongside the Draenei. Diablo 3: Reaper Of Souls BlizzCon 2013 Trailer Leaked

Blizzard announced the Diablo 3 expansion a while ago, called the Reaper of Souls, and we know that come BlizzCon 2013, Blizzard will be sharing more details about what they have planned for the Diablo 3 game, the expansion, and the franchise. The schedule, according to Blizzard, will also show off the game’s cinematic intro which will be different from the launch trailer and if you can’t be bothered to wait until BlizzCon 2013, leaked footage of that trailer has since made its way onto the internet in pretty amazing quality, suggesting that whoever leaked it managed to get their hands on the file itself, as opposed to sneakily recording it with their camera while it was playing.

If you’re wondering what the trailer is about, we suggest you click the video above and watch it because presumably Blizzard might want to get it taken down ASAP, lest it ruins whatever surprise they have in store for you guys at BlizzCon 2013. The video goes through the different game modes, introduces a bit of the new artisan, the Mystic, and more. It certainly looks like the expansion will be addressing a lot of the issues players had with the original, but whether it will be enough to get players to return and keep playing remains to be seen. What do you guys think?

World Of Warcraft Subscribers Dip To 7.6 Million

World Of Warcraft Subscribers Dip To 7.6 MillionWorld of Warcraft, at its peak, had about 12 million active subscribers but with any game that’s old and with newer and shinier alternatives placed in front of gamers, it is not surprising that the subscriber base has dropped. Last we heard, the number of active subscribers of the game sat around 8.3 million but according to a new report during Blizzard’s Q3 2013 earnings call, it was revealed that World of Warcraft’s subscribers have dropped even further and now sits at 7.6 million, losing a good 700,000 subscribers in a span of 6-7 months.

Like we said this is not surprising given that the World of Warcraft franchise is pretty old given that vanilla World of Warcraft was first release back in 2004, meaning that the game is 9 years old. For a game that old having an active subscriber base of 7.6 million is still pretty impressive, but will the upcoming expansion, Warlords of Draenor, be capable of drawing gamers back into the world of Azeroth? We guess we will have to wait and see, but do check back with us during BlizzCon 2013 to see what awaits us! In the meantime are any of our readers still active subscribers to the game since the day it has been released? Let us know in the comments below!

Blizzard Trademarks “Warlords Of Draenor”, Possible World Of Warcraft Expansion

Blizzard Trademarks Warlords Of Draenor, Possible World Of Warcraft ExpansionBlizzard’s BlizzCon 2013 is nearly upon us and many expect that the developer will be taking the opportunity to take the wraps off the expansion for their World of Warcraft MMORPG. Last we heard the name “The Dark Below” was a possibility, but the name has since been debunked as a hoax and thanks to a new sighting by MMO-Champion, a new trademark has been filed and this time it’s for the title, “Warlords of Draenor”, along with the warlordsofdraenor.com domain name. Of course it is entirely possible that this registration could be a hoax as well, but with BlizzCon 2013 around the corner, we might not have to wait too long to find out if it’s true.

It would be interesting if this is indeed the title for World of Warcraft’s next expansion, especially since the Draenei have been featured before in the Burning Crusade expansion, so we have to wonder if perhaps Blizzard will be taking us back to Outland, and might we be able to look forward to a return by Illidan, perhaps? Some consider the Burning Crusade to be the best expansion released by Blizzard so we have to wonder if the Warlords of Draenor will be able to recreate that success. Either way check back with us during BlizzCon 2013 for the details!

Warcraft RTS: Alliance And Horde Is A Fanmade Successor For The Franchise

While Blizzard’s Warcraft franchise is now focused on the World of Warcraft MMORPG and the Hearthstone game, many gamers probably still fondly recall the original game as a real-time strategy game that they played on their computers, with cheat codes such as “it is a good day to die” and “make it so” that gave gamers a leg up over the computer. While it remains unknown if Blizzard will ever release a Warcraft IV, especially since StarCraft 2 is the developer and community’s eSport of choice, one particular modder has decided to take it upon himself to release his own take on the game.

Dubbed “Warcraft RTS: Alliance and Horde”, it is essentially the modder’s take on what Warcraft IV could be like. The game was built using the StarCraft 2 editor and interestingly comes with some features that have been borrowed from World of Warcraft and will also come with melee maps that gamers can use to play against other players. As expected it will feature two factions, the Horde and Alliance, with 14 buildings, 16 units, 18 heroes, and over 50 creeps to fight. The mod’s creator, StevenLuo, invested so much of his time and energy into the project that he has since quit his job, talk about dedication! More info on the mod and its download links can be found here, but in the meantime you can check out the video above to get an idea of what to expect.

World Of Warcraft Recruit A Friend System Receives An Update

World Of Warcraft Recruit A Friend System Receives An UpdateWhile World of Warcraft still has pretty high numbers in terms of active subscribers, the game has seen a pretty big dip from its peak, but we guess there are those who have invested heavily into the game and who aren’t as willing to give up on it just yet. Well if you’re such a gamer or if you’re looking to get into the game, Blizzard has recently updated its Recruit A Friend system for World of Warcraft and will include a new mount and pet for the person doing the recruiting, as well as giving the UI of the system an overhaul. The new pets that players can choose from include a Golden or Silver Pig, and a Jade or Zipao Tiger. The new mount will be an Emerald Hippogryph, all of which appear to be themed for the current Mists of Pandaria expansion.

For those unfamiliar with the Recruit A Friend system, it’s basically where World of Warcraft gamers get to send invites to their friends to join the game. From there their friends will receive XP boosts to help them level faster and the ability to Summon one person to the other. The person doing the recruiting will get rewards as well, such as a free exclusive mount, pets, as well as a free month of game time. If you’re looking for more details about the Recruit A Friend system, hit up Blizzard’s battle.net website for all the details.

WoW Bot Maker Asks For Donations After Being Hit With $7m In Damages

WoW Bot Maker Asks For Donations After Being Hit With $7m In DamagesSo the other day we reported that Blizzard had won a legal case against bot maker, Ceiling Fan Software where the courts ordered the company to cease all activity and to pay Blizzard $7 million in damages. $7 million is a lot of money and is definitely not something to sneeze at, but it seems that Ceiling Fan Software might not have that much money lying around and has instead turn to asking their users and fans for donations to help pay their legal fees. In a statement released on its website, “If you would like to make donations to help offset some of our outstanding legal fees, you may do so here,” along with directing users to a PayPal link.

That particular portion in the statement has since been removed, presumably due to the backlash that they received. There were some who felt that it was absurd that they were asking for donations after engaging in an illegal activity that was clearly banned by Blizzard’s TOS. The rest of their statement reads, “After more than 2 years of legal battles with Blizzard Entertainment to both pursue our right to operate and our customer’s right to play WoW as they choose, we did not prevail in the suit and have been ordered by the United States District Court in California to cease our operations.“ What do you guys think? Was it right for them to ask for donations to help offset the cost of their legal fees? Or do you believe in the saying, if you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime.

Blizzard’s Heroes Of The Storm Name Already Trademarked In EU

Blizzards Heroes Of The Storm Name Already Trademarked In EUThe other day we reported that Blizzard had decided to give their upcoming MOBA, Blizzard All-Stars, a name change to Heroes of the Storm. We’re not sure if that was necessarily a catchier title, as far as legal contention goes, it looks like Blizzard All-Stars would have been a safer choice. It seems that over in Finland and in the EU trademark office, there already exists a game called, Myrskyn Sankarit, which when translated to English pretty much stands for “Heroes of the Storm” as well. Given that the game was published in July 2013, with the Indiegogo campaign having been launched in 2012, safe to say that its creator definitely beat Blizzard to the punch.

According to the game’s creator, Mike Pohjola, he expressed his concern about both games existing peacefully. Pohjola’s creation is a pen-and-paper game and while both games are definitely of different genres, the similarity in title could confuse gamers who might think that Pohjola’s creation is a spin-off of Blizzard’s game and vice versa. We’re not sure what Blizzard plans to do about this and it would be hard for them to contest that they were there first, especially since the title of the game was only recently changed, although Blizzard could also argue that Pohjola’s trademark registration was made after the leak of the Heroes of the Storm filing. Either way we guess we will just have to wait and see how this one plays out.
