JBL announces Cinema SB 100, 200 and 400 soundbars

JBL has been sprinkling a fair amount of its sonic-spice atop desks of late, now it wants to sneak some of the same under your TV. Enter three new all-in-one soundbars just announced by the firm, which it claims bring surround sound performance. As well as that virtual surround experience, the JBL Cinema SB 100, 200 and 400 also sport an equalization switch that optimizes sound depending on where you put it (i.e., mounted on a wall, or on a furniture unit). The SB 400 has a separate wireless subwoofer, while the 200 has one built-in, leaving the 100 with the connections to bring in your own. Likewise, the 400 and 200 models also come with Bluetooth, for added audio content streaming options. If you’ve got a soundbar-shaped hole in your media set-up, then prices start are $199, $299 and $549 according to your feature requirements. To hear the specs in more detail, sound out the PR after the break.

TDK Wireless Charging Speaker: Play & Charge At The Same Time

Usually, when I play music on my phone, it drains the battery, unless I have it docked. Thanks to this new charging dock/speaker from TDK, I can play and charge at the same time, without any wires or even a dock connector. Now that’s pretty neat, because I wouldn’t want to give the cable squid under my desk and computer more cables to procreate.

The TDK Wireless Charging Speaker comes with a built-in Qi-compatible inductive charging pad on top, allowing you to charge your device while it’s playing music. Naturally, this sucker comes with Bluetooth, so you need no wires at all to play your tunes either. The built-in rechargeable battery will provide you with 6 hours of playback, though it’s unclear if the inductive charging works when on battery power, or if only when plugged in.

It also is weatherized for outdoor use, and comes with four full range left/right speakers, a ported subwoofer, a 3.5mm input for non-wireless connections as well as a 1 Amp USB charging port. All this wireless wizardry doesn’t come cheap. The TDK Wireless Charging Speaker will retail for $399.95(USD).

JBL Power Up wireless speaker hooks up with Lumia 920

Nokia has revealed a new speaker dock for the Lumia 920, the JBL Power Up wireless speaker, which can pair and stream with the Windows Phone 8 handset without wires. Unveiled alongside the Lumia 920 in NYC this morning, the JBL dock uses a combination of Bluetooth and NFC to pair and stream music, but can also recharge your phone while it’s playing.

On the top of the lozenge-shaped speaker there’s a wireless charging pad and radio set: hold the Lumia 920 close to the platform, and it automatically pairs and re-routes the audio through to the JBL. As we’ve seen in other Nokia speakers before, that happens on-the-fly even if you’re in the middle of playing a song.

Because of the 920 has wireless charging support too, and that’s built into the JBL, you can stream music without running down your battery.

There’s also Monster’s new Purity Pro headphones, announced earlier in the week, which also include NFC for pairing and Bluetooth for audio streaming.

JBL intros Power Up speaker to charge your Nokia Lumia 920, pair over NFC

JBL Power up hands-on

JBL just kicked out a pair of new accessories to go with that new Nokia Lumia 920. The Power Up speaker does more than just start Bluetooth music sharing over NFC — it has a Qi wireless charging point so that you can just leave your shiny new Windows Phone on top for an extra jolt of energy without looking for that FatBoy pillow. We’ll provide more details as they emerge following Nokia’s special event.

Mosoro releases its Bluetooth LE sensors and SDK for VIP appcessory developers

Mosoro releases its Bluetooth LE sensors and SDK for VIP appcessory developers

Since we last heard about Mosoro’s Lego-brick sized Bluetooth LE modules, they’ve changed their names, picked up another member and are now making their way to iOS app developers. The 3D-Motion’s got an accelerometer, gyroscope and magnetometer, while the Enviro measures temperature, humidity and barometric pressure. New to the team is Proximity, useful for triggering location-based apps and tracking motion for creating alerts. All three rechargeable Bluetooth low energy sensors have “shake-to-wake” support, an RGB “glow-cap” for notifications and a humble programmable button. They are expected to hit retail in fall 2012, but “VIP” app developers can grab them now, as well as the SDK which simplifies iOS Bluetooth integration. Got the ideas and inclination to become one of Mosoro’s “rock star app-developer partners?” Then go sign up on the website and see if you make the VIP grade.

JBL freshens its portable speakers with Micro II, Bluetooth-toting Flip and Micro Wireless

JBL freshens its portable speakers with Micro II, Bluetoothtoting Flip and Micro Wireless

JBL has been on a wireless speaker kick lately — it might as well throw some truly portable models into the equation. Accordingly, two of the three speakers it’s shipping today, the Flip and Micro Wireless, sport Bluetooth audio and a 5-hour battery to cut the cord. The Flip (seen above) is the multi-talented athlete of the bunch: its design can work either upright or on its side to stuff into small spaces, and a built-in mic provides speakerphone duties. The Micro Wireless’ puck shape isn’t as clever, but it fits a standard 3.5mm input jack and space to clip to a carabiner or lanyard. Both these and the Micro Wireless’ strictly wired counterpart, the Micro II, have a bass port to improve the low-end frequencies that are so often missing in this class of speaker. Prices may be the real incentives here: the Flip is the most expensive of the trio at $99, while the Micro Wireless and Micro II are even lighter on the wallet at respective $59 and $39 price points.
