Bang and Olufsen Reinvents the Wheel with Beosound Essence Sound System

Bang and Olufsen Reinvents the Wheel with Beosound Essence Sound System
When it comes to consumer electronics design, Bang and Olufsen is one of my favorite companies. The Danish manufacturer has been using the wheel as a key component of its devices’ user interface for decades and the iPod was probably inpired by the wheel of the BM 6000 launched in 1974.

Today, Bang and Olufsen launched Beosound Essence, a wheel-shaped music sound system. In the complete article, watch the presentation delivered today at CES by CEO Tue Mantoni .

    B&O Form 2i Headphones Announced

B&O Form 2i Headphones Announced[CES 2014] When it comes to stylish audio products, Bang & Olufsen (B&O) comes to mind. To date the company has managed to produce some pretty stylish look audio products, with some of them looking practically alien in design. Now for those who are looking to get in on B&O’s products but want it in a more compact design, such as a pair of headphones, the company has recently announced at CES 2014 its new headphones, the Form 2i. If you’re wondering why the name sounds so familiar, it is because it is actually an update to its Form 2 headphones that was launched quite a while ago, meaning that it is about time that the product was given a refresh. Hands On Bang & Olufsen’s BeoSound Essence: A Light-Switch For Music

Hands On Bang & Olufsen's BeoSound Essence: A Light-Switch For Music

We can all be a little OCD about our music sometimes. We want to listen to just the right thing, and we’re happy to go search through our phones or computers to find it, then connect it to our stereo, and play it. Other times, we simply want to put some music on. Something we like, and if it’s not easy, we’re not going to do it. The BeoSound Essence from Bang and Olufsen is all about the second scenario.

Bang & Olufsen launches BeoLab 14 surround speaker system

When it comes to quality audio systems, regardless of whether it is at home or somewhere else, you know for sure that the name Bang & Olufsen is synonymous with quality and clarity, and there are no two ways about it. Well, it seems that the folks over at Bang & Olufsen have done it again, this time around with the delicious sounding BeoLab 14 surround sound speaker system, which also ushers in an entirely new category of speakers to the Bang & Olufsen family of devices.

The BeoLab 14 surround speaker system is said to be able to revolutionize the marketplace, where it would come across as a conveniently packaged, all-inclusive solution which delivers compact aesthetics, exceptional audio quality and a high-end surround sound performance. The BeoLab 14 will come in a 4.1 or a 5.1 digital surround sound set up, where you will get up to half a dozen individual active speakers, where each of them has its own amplifier, resulting in an unprecedented level of sound quality, never mind that the speakers themselves come in such a compact form factor. Not only that, the BeoLab 14 is also said to be able to play nice with the slew of other TV brands, making it non- exclusive to just Bang & Olufsen televisions alone, now how about that?

The BeoLab 14 is said to continue from its predecessors’ successes, where stunning performance is still delivered despite coming in a compact form factor. The satellite speakers on the BeoLab 14 happen to feature diminutive circles of anodized aluminum with exchangeable fabric covers in a range of colors (white, black, silver, dark grey, red and petroleum blue), where they can be easily integrated into even the most stringent interior design schemes. Not only that, the sculptural subwoofer holds separate amplifiers for all speakers in the system, which should allow it to pump up the bass volume from a beguilingly slender footprint. The new BeoLab 14 surround sound speaker system will cost $3,995 and $4,395 for the 4.1 solution and 5.1 solution, respectively.

Bang & Olufsen intros Beolab 14 surround speakers, considered ‘entry-level’ at $3,995

Bang & Olufsen intros Beolab 14 surround speakers, considered 'entry-level' at $3,995

Bang & Olufsen has been known to occasionally lower the price floor on its line of A/V gear. Continuing in that direction, the company just unveiled its Beolab 14 surround sound speakers, an entry-level offering starting at $3,995 for a 4.1 setup. The rig centers around a petite cylindrical tower that houses a 280-watt amp for its eight-inch down-firing bass driver and connections for up to five individually powered (140 watts) and equalized 2.5-inch satellite speakers. The circular drivers can be wall-mounted or set on stands, and those aluminum enclosures act as heat sinks (in addition to looking dapper). While B&0 anticipates that the soundbars on its existing TVs will act as a center channel, a 5.1 setup will be available for $4,395 if you need an independent middle speaker instead. The Beolab 14 will come in black or white when it launches in June and additional grille clothes will be an extra $99 per set, should you want to change the colors. You can find more details in the press release after the break while you start saving up.

Bang & Olufsen delivers BeoPlay H6 headphones

When it comes to quality audio devices, then you know for sure the name Bang & Olufsen will be able to evoke a sense of awe and wonder. B&O PLAY by Bang & Olufsen has proudly announced a couple of new headphones that will arrive later this July, although we will only concentrate on one – that would be the BeoPlay H6, where this is a super soft, flexible over-ear headphone that offers a sound performance which will elevate audio to another level.

In order to deliver the best possible sound experience for the masses, the folks over at B&O PLAY conducted extensive studies in the shape and curves of the human ear so that they are able to discover the right geometries which will minimize sound leakage, while revealing all the fine details in the music regardless of the current volume level. The BeoPlay H6 will offer a truly natural and authentic sound performance with focus on getting a clear midrange and a balanced bass and treble performance. It has been specially designed around 40 mm custom designed drivers that are accompanied by neodymium magnets which are perfectly angled in order to obtain the best distance and sound direction into the ears. The BeoPlay H6 would also feature an internal bass port that delivers a well-balanced bass performance within a closed headphone design.

The BeoPlay H6 is made out of anodized high-grade aluminium, which would also make it extremely robust and scratch-resistant. The BeoPlay H6 also boasts of anodized aluminum on the adjustable slider arm and cover plate in order to complete the design with a final vibrant touch. The clever use of solid cowhide leather on the BeoPlay H6 headphones that hails from New Zealand is another masterstroke in craftsmanship, as cows there roam in controlled pastures and only the very highest quality hides are selected. You can be assured that each leather product is completely natural, and the leather is dyed with a tanning process which offers colors in rich and warm tones.

The asking price for the BeoPlay H6 would be $399 a pop later this July if you are interested.

B&O Play H3, H6 headphones debut stateside: danish design, premium prices

B&O Play H3, H6 headphones debut stateside aluminumclad danish design, premium prices

It was just last month that Bang & Olufsen unveiled the H3 and H6 headphones under its cheaper-to-enter B&0 Play brand for the EU. Today, B&O introduced these two dapper additions stateside, announcing them at its SoHo NY shop. If you’ll recall, the aluminum-clad H3 in-ears pack 10.3mm drivers aided by mini bass ports, while the H6 over-ears feature 40mm drivers and a healthy heaping of leather-wrapped memory foam padding. Both have an iOS-friendly inline remote and a straight 3.5mm ended cabling. We spent some time with the H6 and we’re surprised at how light it is — which also made for an extremely comfortable first impression when it was placed around this editor’s ears. The sound from the H6’s drivers is crispy and light with a fairly flat voicing that’s free of any noticeable sibilance. A 3.5mm input resides on each of its earcups, which allows for daisy-chaining so you can listen with a buddy. We’re told the H3 intra-aurals should sound similar (we couldn’t get a clean pair to jam in our ears).

Expect to pay $250 for the H3 and $400 for the H6 come July, which is a bit pricier than the likes of B&W’s P3 and P5 headphones. We’ll have to get back to you about whether the prices match the products, but grab a look in the gallery for now.

Bang & Olufsen BeoSound 5 gets full Spotify integration

Bang & Olufsen, the purveyors of fine audio systems, did announce and roll out the Bang & Olufsen BeoSound 5 in the past, but this time around, there is something new about the BeoSound 5, as it has now received full integration with Spotify. This particular integration would see the introduction of yet another feature to the BeoSound 5 system, where its range of digital music would have been expanded even further thanks to Spotify’s massive music catalogue, apart from the owner’s own digitized tracks. If that is not enough, you can always settle for another 14,000 internet radio stations, which should be more than enough to last you through a few lifetimes. Do bear in mind that this particular integration has been built into all new BeoSound 5 units, so if you are gunning for this system, now would be a good time to get it.

Bang & Olufsen’s category manager Theis Moerk, shared, “Bang & Olufsen owners told us they wanted Spotify, and we listened. More and more consumers are choosing to stream their music, and in many markets streamed music outsells CDs. However, low bit rates have kept a lot of music fans on the fence. With Spotify now fully integrated into BeoSound 5, Bang & Olufsen owners have access to over 20 million songs in the best possible streaming quality. The partnership with Spotify is an important step in keeping Bang & Olufsen owners up to date with the growing availability of digital entertainment, and we look forward to further collaboration with Spotify in the future.”

BeoSound 5 would give you complete command of all your music, regardless of where it is stashed, and “central command” would comprise of a single intuitive interface. It seamlessly connects to a plethora of sources, where it will encompass NAS, Airplay, DLNA, A2DP Bluetooth and of course, the latest kid on the block, Spotify. If you are interested, the BeoSound 5 would retail for a whopping $6,324.

    Bang & Olufsen built-in sound system – BeoLab 15, BeoLab 16

B O Beolab 15 16 640 Bang & Olufsen built in sound system BeoLab 15, BeoLab 16[CES 2013] When it comes to consumer electronics craftsmanship, Bang & Olufsen is synonymous with haute couture, in the sense that the Danish company  makes a point to design devices that look like pieces of art. That is why the first time I looked at the Beolab 15 / Beolab 16 built-in sound system in the product picture provided by the manufacturer, I had to ask confirmation of which objects were part of it (see above, the 3 circles in the photo).

The new sound system is comprised of a pair of two-way active speakers (BeoLab 15), an active subwoofer (BeoLab 16) and a rack-ready amplifier (Amplifier 1), all designed for in-wall or in-ceiling placement.
Beolab 15 features a new tilt function that allows the listeners to place middle tones where they want them to be. When the device is turned on, it tilts out to pre-sets angles and  it tilts back as soon as it is turned off.
