TARDIS and Tentacle Monster Bookends Are a Doctor Who Double Feature

This set of  bookends takes me back to the classic era of Doctor Who. I mean, there is a large tentacle monster, the TARDIS, a bunch of pipes and some barrels, all in a creepy castle-like room. This is like having an instant adventure on your shelf, holding up your collection of Doctor Who books.

There is good news and bad news regarding these bookends however. The bad news is that awesome as they are, these particular handmade bookends have been sold, but the good news is that its creator – Theophilus Saxe’s Emporium will make pretty much anything you want so if you ask, they could probably make another one for you.

Kraken Bookends Aren’t Recommended for Seafarers

I know the chances of a giant monster actually living at the bottom of the ocean are pretty slim, but the ocean is a very deep, and why tempt fate? The Kraken is probably one of the worst mythical sea monsters out there – reaching up to crush ships with its disgusting slimy tentacles.

If you have a penchant for mythical beasts and bizarre bookends, these Kraken bookends are just for you. Just be sure you’re not living on a boat.

You can purchase a these off Etsy where an artist by the name of Dellamorteco sculpted the shipwreck by hand, then cast it from resin and painted on a bronze finish. The result is incredibly realistic and lifelike and must’ve taken a very long time to make. You have to check out some of the close-up images to get an idea of how detailed these bookends really are.

Priced at $250(USD), the limited-edition bookends aren’t exactly cheap, but considering it’s an handmade piece of art, the price isn’t too bad. There are more than a few people out there who would love to have a pair these sitting on their pirate-themed libraries.

Star Wars Imperial Seal Bookends: Knowledge is Power. UNLIMITED POWER

These Imperial Seal bookends are definitely the simplest Star Wars-themed bookends we’ve featured so far, but no self-respecting Emperor is going to be caught using AT-AT bookends. In fact, I don’t think the Emperor needs bookends at all. He’ll just Force Lightning any book that dares to move even an smidge out of alignment.

You can pre-order the bookends from Amazon, Entertainment Earth or straight from collectible maker Gentle Giant for $70 (USD).

Katana Bookends Help You Slice Through Reading Material in Seconds

While I still have years worth of old paper books lying around my house, I have to be honest and say that I don’t read much in the way of physical books anymore. Other than the occasional graphic novel or comic book, I prefer to read on my iPad these days. That said, I have a few very special books that are deserving of a proud place on top of the bookshelf, and I’ve finally found the best way to show them off.

Yep. Katana Bookends, folks. Shut up and take my money already.  They’re coming this March from UK design shop Mustard for about $30(USD) and they’re perfect for displaying your favorite martial arts instructional books, or in my case, issues of The Walking Dead – specifically those with Michonne in them.

While I’d like to think they pulled off the visual trickery of the blade slicing through the books using massive neodymium magnets, it looks to me more like the old Steve Martin arrow-through-the-head gag, but with books instead of a head in the middle. Regardless of how they’re made, they’re still Katana Bookends, so what’s not to like?

Tentacle Attack Bookends Perfect for H.P. Lovecraft Books

I have a recurring nightmare about being attacked by some sort of creature with too many legs. I’m not sure if it’s from playing too many FPSes, or from reading about Cthulhu. Heck, maybe it’s from visiting the aquarium. Who knows. But if you’re not afraid to have some tentacles hanging around your bookshelf, then you’ll definitely want to check out these bookends.

tentacle bookends

They’re made by Knob Creek Metal Arts, and feature a cutout of a woman being abducted by some sort of creepy tentacled beast – I’m going with a Kraken, but it definitely could be Cthulhu, or just some sort of giant octopus. Or maybe a septapus. Maybe it’s just Squiddly Diddly.

Each pair of Tentacle Attack bookends is handmade from steel, and sells for $43(USD). Grab a pair now, before the tentacles grab you instead.

Zombie Bookends Perfect for Your Walking Dead Collection

While physical books and magazines are clearly going the way of the dodo bird, one genre of print which is still going strong is the graphic novel. And you can’t mention graphic novels these days without mentioning The Walking Dead. Now, you’ll have the perfect place to stash your issues, courtesy of these zombie silhouette bookends.

Of course, they’re also good for books like The Zombie Combat Manual and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. They’re made out of solid steel, and the only thing better would be if they were splashed with a little bit of red lacquer for blood spatter effect. I guess you could always do that yourself.

You can grab a pair of these zombie bookends over on Fancy for $40(USD).

AT-AT Bookends for Late Night Reading on Hoth

Star Wars fans tend to accumulate a lot of books because there have been so many expanded universe adventures and special collectors editions over the years. What do you do with all of these books? You put them between a pair of AT-AT bookends, that’s what.

AT AT Bookends
How awesome do these Imperial Walker bookends from Gentle Giant look? They sell for $225(USD), and are cast from polystone and hand-painted. They just look amazing. They will hold your books, cds, whatever. They also look great displayed by themselves.

As far as I’m concerned, there’s really no cooler vehicle in the Star Wars universe. Even if a snowspeeder could take it down with some cable in like two minutes, I’d pilot an AT-AT through the snow if I could.
