Motorola Atrix HD official specs

We’ve talked about the Atrix HD leaks last week but Motorola has revealed the final specifications of the latest handset from the powerful “Atrix” family of smartphones. On the surface, the Atrix HD keeps the family traits and has a familiar look and feel, but with an updated smooth and curvy design.

However, there are some serious upgrades under the hood. First of all, Motorola as opted for a fast Qualcomm Snapdragon chip cadenced at 1.5GHz (1GB of RAM). Although Motorola would not say which one it is, we suspect that it is the S4 variant, which we have seen before in other high-end Android phones. It also comes with Android 4.0 aka Ice Cream Sandwich, which has been much improved since the Android version 2.x used in the previous version of the Atrix. (more…)

Google Nexus 7 has officially been announced

As if you didn’t see this coming, but we guess it’s always nice when it has been made official. In case the image and the title above weren’t obvious enough, Google has officially taken the wraps off their Google Nexus 7 device, which they have confirmed is made by ASUS, the same manufacturer behind other popular Android apps such as the ASUS Transformer Prime. So what can we expect from this bad boy? Well for starters the rumors had some of the specs right, such as its 7″ 1280×800 display and the fact that it will be powered by NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 quad-core processor and will sport a 12-core GPU. It will also come preinstalled with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on board, Google’s latest iteration of their Android operating system. Apart from that, users can expect to find a front-facing camera, WiFi, Bluetooth and NFC connectivity. Weighing in at 340grams, Google promises 9 hours of video watching and 300 hours of standby time with a fully charged battery. As the rumors have pegged it, it seems that the Google Nexus 7 will not feature 3G connectivity perhaps in a bid to make it a more affordable device. (more…)

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is official!

Folks, it looks like all the speculation can finally be put to rest as Google has officially taken the wraps off Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. One of the features that Google was aiming for was a smooth and buttery experience, which was why they embarked on what they called “Project Butter”. Their goal was to create a UI experience and improve Android’s frame rate and make it more consistent, thus getting rid of lag and stutter that some users have noticed on their Android mobile phones. It will be applied throughout the whole phone, apps and all and will be constantly updated and improved upon. In fact it’s so fast that Google claims Jelly Bean will be able to predict where your finger will be before you touch the screen! For the more tech savvy, they have basically bumped Android’s FPS up to 60 thanks to the VSync process and triple buffering. Certainly not new in the PC world, but it is most definitely a welcome addition for Android. (more…)
