Nokia Lumia 1520 Leads Windows Phone Hardware

Nokia Lumia 1520 Leads Windows Phone HardwareFinally, Windows Phone 8 gets true leading hardware: with the Nokia 1520, the Microsoft platform obtains its first high-end large-display smartphone equipped with a 1080p display and the latest Snapdragon 800 processor from Qualcomm. This couldn’t have come fast enough and Nokia is making history here.

This time, Nokia didn’t hold back on the specification, and we are finally going to see a Windows Phone that can go head to head with Android handsets without feeling “last-gen”. This is going to help Microsoft and Nokia quite a bit. No matter what one can say, specs do matter, especially in a competitive market like we have today.

BBM for Android and iOS Now Available. Get In Line

BBM for Android and iOS Now Available. Get In LineIt is official, the Blackberry Messenger app has been released on Android and iOS (search for “BBM” in the store), and we’re looking forward to telling you more about it. Before you get too excited, you should also be aware that there is a virtual “waiting list” since BlackBerry apparently wants to ramp this up in a somewhat controlled way. Since BBM is one of the most-used BB service, the company may fear that its servers could have a hard time keeping up with the first surge resulting from the launch. (more…)

SHIELD Console Mode: SHIELD “Box” Coming Next?

SHIELD Console Mode: SHIELD “Box” Coming Next?NVIDIA has been busy: after formally introducing G-Sync, the company has also announced that its SHIELD Android device will get a “Console Mode” in which SHIELD acts as a gaming box connected to the TV (paired with a 3rd party wireless controller). Not surprisingly, this is a feature that users asked for as soon as NVIDIA showed this console at CES 2013. This also opens the gate to something even more interesting: a display-less (and more affordable) SHIELD “box”. (more…)

Sony Alpha7R And Alpha 7 Become Official

Sony Alpha7R And Alpha 7 Become OfficialAfter having been leaked a couple of days ago, the Sony A7 and A7R have now gone “official”. Both cameras use the E-mount and share lenses with the Sony NEX Series. The FE premium lenses for full-frame sensors would be more adequate, but there are so few of them… Those cameras are the full-frame monsters that die-hard fans were hoping for, and they respectively use impressive 36 and 24 Megapixel sensors. In fact, that’s so many pixels that Sony has decided to remote the low-pass filter (blurring) on the Alpha 7R. (more…)

    Sony Cyber-Shot RX10 High-Powered Zoom Compact Camera

Sony Cyber Shot RX10 High Powered Zoom Compact CameraSony has just announced the RX10, a 24-200mm (about 8X optical zoom) fixed lens camera that has a fixed (and large!) f2.8 aperture. This is really interesting in terms of specifications, because it’s not easy to find this type of f2.8 (constant) zoom lens in compact cameras. The sensor of the RX10 is the same as the one found in the (awesome) Sony RX100 II camera, and if you are not familiar with either of them, this sensor is about 4X larger than what is commonly found in compact cameras. Sony’s goal is to have power-users “reach their DSLRs less and less”. (more…)

    Hands-On: Sonos Play:1 Review

Hands On: Sonos Play:1 ReviewSonos has just launched Sonos Play:1, their latest, most compact and most affordable wireless speaker which has been designed to be very competitive in terms of power/size and affordability. It is a compact wireless audio system, but if you compare it with many other speakers, the size in itself isn’t impressively small. And that’s where the powerful audio comes in.

The Play:1 sound is powerful and sounds quite nice with many types of music. This is definitely one of the best $199 speakers that we have had our hands on, and since we have the Bang & Olufsen A8 at the office, we’re no strangers to high-quality audio.

SoundTouch: Easy Listening, Made by Bose

SoundTouch: Easy Listening, Made by Bose
How many clicks, how many fingertaps does it take to get your favorite music playing when you come home? Any number greater than one should make you interested in Bose’s new SoundTouch technology, the audio pioneer hopes. Promising “a whole new way of enjoying your music at home,” Bose on Thursday introduced a new, wireless music system that is slated to become a company-wide standard for virtually all of Bose’s hifi and video products.

“It should be effortless to get to your music. It should be as easy as turning on the lights when you walk into a room,” said Bose product line manager Glenn Gomes-Casseres at the unveiling of the SoundTouch system in New York. To reach this goal, the company is combining technologies new and old: any SoundTouch device features six preset buttons that can be programmed through mobile apps or Bose software on PCs and Macs. The music can stream from a computer in the home or from the Internet, such as radio stations or services like Pandora.
