Commute-Case: It’s a Briefcase, It’s a Scooter

If you’ve fallen flat on your face one too many times while attempting to ride a Segway, then the Commute-Case may or may not be the right method of transportation for you.

Commute Case 620x431It’s a compact electric scooter that has mobility in mind. Not just when you’re on it, but also when you’re not using it as well. The sleek design allows you to fold the entire thing up into a briefcase of sorts when you’re keen on walking or for storage. You can also easily convert it into a trolley as well.

Sonic Screwdriver Briefcase: Timelord Toolbox

There are plenty of replica sonic screwdrivers out there for fans of Doctor Who to collect. The last one we talked about was the War Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver. If you have a collection of sonic screwdrivers that you need a place to store and show off, this is the perfect DIY project for you.

One Whovian going by the name 00failure has used MDF and wood veneer to create an awesome chest that displays his collection of sonic screwdrivers. The collectables are tucked away inside foam with cutouts the perfect size to keep them in place.

The builder went so far as to laser cut Gallifreyan symbols into the veneer. The finished products is very cool. However, I must confess to not watching the show, so I see what appears to be a tube of lipstick, a pocket watch, and some odd keys inside as well that I don’t know the significance of.

Briefcase Arcade Machine: Arcade Man Mk. V

Tired of hosting his Arcade Club’s gaming sessions at home, Travis Reynolds made the Briefcade. Arcade Club, Assemble!… Somewhere else.

Travis originally wanted to make a foldable tabletop arcade machine, but he eventually scrapped it in favor of the Briefcade.

Travis bought a used briefcase for $5 and then tore down one of his LCD monitors. Then he bought Sanwa-style joysticks and buttons, but found out that the joystick was too big and wouldn’t let him close the briefcase as it is, so he just takes the balltop off of the stick when he closes the Briefcade.

Travis is using a Raspberry Pi and a Linux-based MAME emulator for the Pi called PiMAME. He also connected a USB car charger to step down the voltage on its way from the monitor to the Raspberry Pi.

Hold all calls, cancel all meetings and head to Travis’ blog for more on his Briefcade.

007 Concealed Blade Briefcase Doesn’t Give You a License to Kill

When you are a secret spy working for British intelligence, your people come up with all kinds of cool gadgets for you to kill or maim. And if you need to protect some documents, and 007′s concealed blade briefcase is the perfect thing.

Bond’s briefcase (shown above) hid a razor sharp blade for protecting the goods (and himself). Now you can own a perfect replica of the stylish and elegant briefcase used by Sean Connery in the classic 007 movie “From Russia with Love.”

Keep in mind that the replica case doesn’t actually come with the pop-out knife, though its makers at Swaine Adeney Brigg state:

The case has no pockets in the lid, so is an open box inside. We will supply you with an exact replica of James Bond’s case that we made for the Bond movie; any modifications you choose to make are down to your own imagination.

Most of our customers ask for a pocket here, a strap there. But we can, of course, accommodate more unusual requests from agents in the field. Often, just a small twist on a classic design can turn your attaché case into a real talking point.

(Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.)

It’s the perfect place for all of your valuables. Unfortunately, this perfect replica will cost you £1675.00 (~$2,600 USD) making this one expensive briefcase. Spy stuff doesn’t come cheap.

Bombata Bags for Tablets/Laptops: Lug Around Your Machines in Style

Laptop briefcases and sleeves tend to blend together after a while, because most of them look the same and are pretty boring. That’s one of the reasons why an Italian designer decided to come up with something with a bit more flair.

Bombata bags are supposed to marry technical expertise with fashion sensibilities. Unlike most laptop bags, they’re not bulky, and some function like sleeves, so they can be used inside larger bags to keep your electronics safe.

Bombata bags are made from durable vinyl, and offered in a number of different colors and sizes. They start with the tablet-friendly Micro Bombata and go up all the way to the Chubby Bombata, which can hold much more than just a laptop. Prices start at about $45(USD) and go up to about $110.

3D printer cuts vinyl, mills, draws, fits comfortably inside a briefcase, is generally fab

Is there anything this tool from MIT’s Ilan Moyer and collaborator Nadya Peek can’t do? Probably, but that list seems likely to be shorter than the list of those it can. So far, Popfab has been shown doing a little printing during a brief video, but Moyer has promised a lot more to come, telling Core 77, “we also have toolheads working for vinyl cutting, milling and drawing,” all of which promise to show up in subsequent episodes. The tool (which has other fans) has apparently already made its way around the world in the form of carry-on luggage, helping fulfill its creators desire to support “the nomadic designer” — just a briefcase, a power source and a dream.
