Casio fx-CP400 Graphing Calculator

The graphing calculator of yore has proven to be a good servant, but just as time has moved on, so too, must fans of the old school graphing calculator. Casio wants to have a say in the whole deal with the fx-CP400 that will arrive not too long after Texas Instrument’s color-screened TI-84+ appeared on the horizon. What Casio offers with the fx-CP400 Graphing Calculator is this – a 4.8” stylus-driven display at 320 x 528 resolution, with the ability to switch from vertical to horizontal modes with but a single touch of a button.

Unfortunately, it comes with just 30MB of internal memory, so this is obviously a poor choice if you were to use it as a portable media player. A very, very poor choice, as your smartphone would have fared far better. Ah well, at least you know that you will not run into issues when working out graphs on this puppy, as it is surely the next generation of graphing calculators worth looking into.

Texas Instruments confirms color TI-84+ calculator is on track for a spring 2013 release

Texas Instruments confirms color TI84 calculator is on track for a spring 2013 releaseYou’ve seen the recent rumors of a TI-84 calculator with a color screen, and now Tech Powered Math has gotten the official word from Texas Instruments that such a device is indeed coming, finally bringing the popular line of calculators out of the monochrome age. As those earlier reports have suggested, however, you’ll have to wait until sometime in the spring of next year to get you hands on one, and pricing has yet to be confirmed — the site says the MSRP “could” be in the neighborhood of $150, though. Apparently, one reason for the lack of specificity with a release date is that the apps from the older calculators aren’t compatible with the new TI-84+ C, so Texas Instruments has been focusing on rewriting the most popular ones in time for the calculator’s release, with an eye towards releasing more over the course of the summer. TI assured the site that the new model is “not replacing anything,” though, and adds that it has no plans to discontinue the standard TI-84+ or the TI-84+ Silver Edition. Those interested can find plenty more details on the calculator and TI’s plans at the source link below.

TI-84 calculator with color screen surfaces, geeks giddy with anticipation

TI84 calculator with color screen surfaces, geeks giddy with anticipationTexas Instrument’s TI-84 makes quick work of graphs and equations like nobody’s business, but it’s done so for years while clinging to an outdated black and white screen. Now, however, it looks like that’ll change for at least one flavor of the souped-up digital abacus. Cemetech forum user 0rac343 posted a photo of a TI-84+ C Silver Edition, claiming that it was one of 24 provided by TI for in-classroom testing and that it’s slated to launch next spring. Tech Powered Math reports that a contact who’s worked with Texas Instruments has confirmed that the calculator is the real McCoy. In fact, the firm’s website has a page where visitors can sign up for updates about the number cruncher in question. With the help of the refreshed TI-84, we might finally be able to tell if Blinky, Inky, Pinky or Clyde is the ghost chasing us down in the hardware’s Pac-Man clone.

DIY Calculator Lets You Draw Your Own Keys

For most of us with smartphones, a desktop calculator is a relic of days-gone-by. But I still like the convenience of having one around so I don’t have to bother to dig around for the calculator app on my phone. Here’s a fun idea for a calculator that gives you one more reason to own one – you can design your own buttons for it.

diy calculator 1

The DIY Calculator is just that – a blank slate that you can draw any design you want on. Just get out your pens, pencils, crayons or any other drawing instrument and go to town on the blank sheet of paper on the front of the calculator. I think I’d draw mine with letters instead of numbers, so I’d know exactly how to key in “800813S.”

You’ll still have to put the buttons in the right spot for them to work – but at least they include a template that ensures you don’t end up mixing up your division and multiplication keys. The DIY Calculator will sell for just £6.99 or $8 USD, and will be available soon from both Mustard and Perpetual Kid.

The Straight-Up Nerdiest Calculator Watch on the Planet Earth [Desired]

If you’re going to have a calculator watch, why trifle? Why bother with something that only performs basic arithmetic? You’re trying to make a statement, right: that math is important to you. You should be able to do basic operations in your head. If you’re going to wear a calculator on your arm, please wear a badass one. More »

Google Launches Voice Enabled 34-Button Scientific Calculator

Google has had a calculator integrated into its search results for a long time. Using the calculator was as easy as typing a math problem such as 2+2 into the search bar and hitting enter. Google has made that calculator much more complex and useful with the addition of a new scientific calculator with 34-buttons.

The calculator promises much of the same functionality of a real calculator. The best news is that the scientific calculator is available not only on your desktop computer, but via your mobile phone and its voice search enabled. When on the smartphone, the scientific functions can be seen when you rotate the phone into landscape mode.

To use the calculator in voice mode just click the mic icon and speak your equation. This might be the perfect thing for the times you need to work out a complex equation and your calculator ran out of batteries. You still have a calculator, right?

Google Gets Scientific, Adds A Voice-Enabled 34-Button Calculator To Desktop And Mobile Search

awesome

Oh Google. Sometimes you’re so awesome.

Google search has long featured a built-in calculator function but a recent update added a fully functional 34-button scientific calculator. Previously, when a user entered, say, 2+2, Google would simply display the sum above the search result. Now, when that equation is entered into the search bar, the answer pops up along with the new calculator. Best of all, this works in mobile browsers and voice search, too.

This isn’t a stripped down calculator, either. It’s a full-power, voice-enabled scientific calculator with nearly all the functions of a tangible model. Plus, it doesn’t require two AAA batteries. A Google Product Manager pointed out in this post’s comments that the scientific functions appear when the phone is rotated to be viewed in a landscape mode.

This calculator even works with Desktop Voice Search. Simply click the little mic icon and state the equation; it works with both “what is the square root of 30?” and “square root of 30.” Or, to launch the calculator itself, say “calculator”. It seems to stumble on long, complex equations (or maybe I’m saying them wrong), but in the right situation, this voice-powered calculator could be rather valuable.

This is just Google’s latest addition to its nerdy toolbox. The search bar already performed graphing functions. Now, with Google, Wolfram Alpha, and the sheer number of apps out there, there really isn’t any excuse for not being able to finish your math homework.

Google’s search-based calculator is a bit of a God-send when it comes to impromptu math, but now the Big G has gone and extended its functionality by rolling out a full-on, 34-button scientific calculator. More »

BPM Drum Machine Style Calculator Wristwatch

I remember back in the days when I was a wee lad at school, wearing a watch was considered to be cool – and not just any watch, you had to have either a Swatch, or a Casio calculator watch. Those that came with a built-in remote control worked as well, too. Calculator watches are the coolest in my opinion, especially when it comes to math tests. Well, fast forward to today with all my math basics intact in my noggin’, here we are with something far more sophisticated, although its main purpose is to still tell the time – the $79.99 BPM Drum Machine Style Calculator Wristwatch.

The BPM Drum Machine Style Calculator Wristwatch comes with a polycarbonate strap and Hot Rubber applications, boasting a fully functional calculator, not to mention a faux drum-machine that ensures the beats are there to keep your minutes on track, allowing you to make that special countdown until a particular moment in the day or week. Something Junior would definitely appreciate, I believe.
