Capcom planning to release new games for Wii U rather than ports

Now that the Wii U is here, we need some games to play on it. Many publishers have decided to port their older games instead of developing all-new ones in these early days of the console, but Capcom is saying today that it will be focusing on new games when it comes to Wii U development. Sorry Resident Evil fans, but it looks like you won’t be getting Resident Evil 6 on the Wii U.

In fact, Capcom’s Christian Svensson was answering a fan question about Resident Evil 6 and Lost Planet 3 potentially making it to the Wii U when he revealed the company’s plan. “With regard to WiiU, in general we’re looking forward, not back so late ports are generally not on the table,” Svensson said. So, don’t hold out any hope of seeing your favorites from Xbox 360 and PS3 make the jump to Wii U.

Of course, this is something that will probably please a lot of fans, as early Wii U owners haven’t exactly taken kindly to the number of ports that were on the system from launch. If we were to hazard a guess, we’d say that Wii U owners want new experiences to break in their consoles, rather than ports of games that have been out for a year or so. Interestingly enough, the only game Capcom has announced for the Wii U is Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, which could be considered something of an “enhanced” port of the original Wii game.

In any case, we’ll have to wait and see what Capcom has planned, because aside from Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Capcom hasn’t made any Wii U announcements. Capcom usually doesn’t have any problem releasing new versions of old games over and over again, so the idea that it won’t be releasing many older games on the Wii U is something of a surprise. Still, we have a feeling that Wii U owners will be happy Capcom is looking to offer new experiences on their console. Stay tuned.

Capcom releases Monster Hunter 4 gameplay footage

We’re sure that gamers are a bit bummed that Capcom’s Monster Hunter 4 has been delayed to next year, and while a new release date has yet to be announced, the developers behind the game have decided that the next best thing would be to release a series of videos in which gameplay footage from the upcoming game is shown, giving gamers a taste of what’s to come. The good news is that thanks to the delay, this would mean that the developers would have more time to make any changes or improvements that will affect the game’s overall experience which we can’t help but think is a good thing for gamers out there. The game was originally scheduled for a release in March of 2013, but has since been pushed to the summer of 2013 with no definitive date in sight. In the meantime we guess you will just have to enjoy these videos below. (more…)

Capcom files for “Fighters Of Capcom” trademark

We’ve seen several Capcom fighting games that have merged with other franchises, like Marvel versus Capcom for instance, but could we be looking at a Capcom fighting game in the future which features all of Capcom’s fighter characters? Thanks to a trademark recently registered, the title “Fighters Of Capcom” has been revealed, and while the details of the alleged game remain unknown, the name itself seems to imply some sort of brawler-styled game that might feature Capcom’s cast of characters. Perhaps it might even be some sort of brawler-styled game like Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros or Sony’s PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, but we guess we will have to wait until Capcom makes an official announcement before we get too ahead of ourselves, but in the meantime what do you guys make of this?

Resident Evil 6 update arrives on Xbox 360 and PS3 in mid-December

Capcom has stepped forward to man up, sharing news that the free Resident Evil 6 title update which was announced earlier in October will only be making its way to the Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms from the middle of December onwards, leaving us with one less thing to rage about when Christmas rolls around. This particular update will include the foreboding ‘No Hope’ difficulty level alongside co-op gameplay for Ada Wong’s campaign that will come unlocked right from the beginning of the game.

Capcom will use this situation to include two mechanical tweaks into Resident Evil 6 as well, letting players widen the camera’s field of view which is ideal when you have a horde of brain-hungry undead knocking at your door. Apart from that, the update is said to enable the English language audio to be work alongside subtitles in alternative languages, a feature that was previously found only on movies on DVD and Blu-ray. No idea on details for the PC version though.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate screenshots for the Wii U revealed

The other day we reported that Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate screenshots for the Nintendo 3DS were revealed, but for those who were planning on playing it on a larger display and with the Wii U console, well it seems that screenshots for the Wii U version have been released as well. The Nintendo Wii U is expected to see a release towards the end of the year and if you’ve enjoyed playing Monster Hunter on your Sony PSP and wouldn’t mind playing it on your brand new Wii U, then perhaps these screenshots might be of interest to you. Alternatively if you were wondering what all the fuss about Monster Hunter is about, perhaps these screenshots could be worth checking out. Capcom has also announced that if you happen to be in New York and you’re planning on dropping by the New York Comic Con, Capcom will have a booth and a community room where you will be able to try Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate on a Nintendo 3DS. If you’d like to check out the rest of the screenshots in their full resolution, head on over to Capcom’s blog in the source link below.

Resident Evil 6 patch go live tomorrow at 9AM PT

I am quite sure that Resident Evil 6 gamers who downloaded the game instead of purchasing a physical copy of it, and applying a patch after that only to run into issues concerning the game being unable to load, will be quite interested to know that Capcom has already gotten ready an amended patch which will seemingly fix all the loading problems that plagued the digital version of the game, and it was announced to go live at approximately 9AM PT tomorrow, October 4th.

The PlayStation EU Twitter account mentioned, “If you’ve had a problem downloading Resident Evil 6, please delete and re-download. There was an issue with the patch that is now fixed.”

Hopefully this will be a clean patch, and will plug whatever holes that are in the zombie bustin’ title instead of opening up a new floodgates of bugs and issues. Hey, stranger things have happened in the past, so why not the same be applied to Resident Evil 6?

Resident Evil 6 PS3 has bugs, Capcom working out a fix

So what do we know about Capcom’s latest installment of the Resident Evil franchise? Well, Australia broke its street date at the end of last month, and for PS3 owners who have installed Resident Evil 6 on their machines, some of them do seem to run into problems when it comes to loading the game. This is as frustrating as loading your favorite movie in Blu-ray or DVD only to realize that the disc is scratched beyond repair, leaving you to watch paint dry as an alternative form of entertainment. Capcom is already aware of this issue, and has released a statement that informs gamers that a fix is on the way.

The loading issue seems to affect the majority of those who purchased the game straight from the PSN store, especially after one downloaded the day one patch. A temporary fix recommendation by Capcom urged gamers to “un-install the game (only if they originally saw an error message) and re-install the game.” Although playable after applying this fix, another issue that arises is this – folks who play the digital version are unable to go up against others using the disc, and Capcom and Sony are collaborating “to fix this issue and a patch is imminent to fix the issue.”

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate confirmed for Wii U and 3DS in 2013

So yesterday Nintendo America officially revealed that the Wii U console would be released in the US come 18th of November and will be priced at $299 and $349 for the basic set and deluxe set respectively. If that wasn’t good enough news for Wii U hopefuls, it seems that we can expect Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate to make its way onto the Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS console as well! This was revealed by Monster Hunter producer Ryozo Tsujimoto himself, and according to the announcement video, gameplay will not be console-exclusive, meaning that players can save their games on their Wii U or 3DS and pick up where they left off on either device.

The game will of course be taking advantage of the touchscreen capabilities of both consoles, although the full details of that have yet to be revealed. Either way Tsujimoto has promised that they will be updating us on the progress of the game regularly, so be sure to check back with us at a later date for more updates. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for the Wii U and 3DS is expected to see a release in March of 2013.

Mega Man Hoodie Has an Ace Up Its Sleeve

…and by ace I mean a Mega Buster. This rockin’ Rockman (aka Mega Man) hoodie is a collaboration between Capcom and Japanese apparel company Punk Drunkers. It has lots of references to the blue bomber, but its main trick is its left sleeve, which when rolled up reveals a textile replica of Mega Man’s staple weapon.

The hood obviously resembles Mega Man’s helmet, the pockets are a nod to the Energy Tank and there’s a stitching of pixelated Mega Man at the back.

You can pre-order the hoodie from Punk Drunkers for ¥14,700 (approx. $190 (USD)); they’ll start shipping this October. I’m not sure if they’ll accept international orders, but if not there are still ways around that.

Resident Evil 6 on sale early in Poland, Capcom investigates the situation

Resident Evil 6 was not meant to hit the market until October 2nd rolls around, but it seems that this is not the case in Poland as one of the retailers there broke the embargoed street date. Needless to say, copies of Resident Evil 6 are now up for sale on eBay, and you can bet your bottom hard earned dollar that it will be more expensive than the market rate, simply because there are folks out there who know that some people just cannot wait for something new, and would want to be first. Perhaps first to finish the game before it is officially released?

Capcom is obviously not too pleased with the situation at the moment, and have shared with CVG that they are “currently undertaking a thorough investigation into reports that Resident Evil 6 is being sold ahead of its official October 2 release date. At this time, all we can add is that it would appear this unfortunate incident is limited to a small quantity of stolen copies of the German USK PlayStation 3 version of the game.”
