Don’t Believe a Word of Last Night’s 60 Minutes NSA Interview

Don't Believe a Word of Last Night's 60 Minutes NSA Interview

Last night, CBS ran a 60 Minutes special about the ongoing NSA debacle. It claimed to give "unprecedented access to the agency’s HQ" and "for the first time" explain "what it does and what it says it doesn’t do: spy on Americans." It was also, incidentally, a pile of steaming bull.

CBS App For Android And Windows 8 Released

CBS App For Android And Windows 8 Released

Back in March CBS launched a new app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The app allowed users to watch full episodes of a number of daytime, primetime and late night TV shows on their iOS device, through streaming. By releasing this app, the network joined the likes of ABC and NBC, who have offered a streaming app to their customers for quite some time. After initially rolling out the app only for iOS, CBS is now going multiplatform. The network has released the CBS app for Android and Windows 8.

Shows such as The Big Bang Theory, The Late Show with David Letterman and NCIS will all be available for streaming on your Android, iOS or Windows 8 device. Through the app, users will be able to view all episodes of CBS’s new and returning primetime shows eight days after their initial broadcast on the network. Late night shows will be available for streaming after only 24 hours of the initial broadcast. That’s not all, the network has also said that it plans to bring the app over to the BlackBerry 10 platform by the end of this year. The official CBS app for Android is available now from Google Play Store and for Windows 8 from the Windows Store.

TV on Twitter gets a boost: CBS offers in-tweet highlight videos, Netflix keeps spoilers out

TV on Twitter gets a boost CBS offers intweet highlight videos, Netflix keeps spoilers out

TV-loving Twitter users just got two big upgrades to their experience. To start, CBS has reached a deal with Twitter to offer ad-supported, in-tweet highlight videos through the Amplify program. The partnership will include content from 42 shows spread across 20 of CBS’ web and TV brands. Meanwhile, Netflix has launched a new Spoiler Foiler website that prevents Twitter friends in other regions from ruining Breaking Bad. Sign in, and the page will automatically censor tweets with likely spoiler material; you can click the blacked-out text to see what you’re missing. While it’s not clear when CBS’ highlight videos will be available, Spoiler Foiler is available today.

CBS Sports will stream Alabama vs. Texas A&M on its website, mobile apps

    CBS

When Alabama takes on Texas A&M in college football this afternoon, CBS will have more to offer than just a dedicated “Johnny Cam” following the Heisman winner all day (no, it will not be giving away autographed memorabilia). CBS plans to stream every SEC “Game of the Week” (most are TBD right now, check the schedule after the break) it broadcasts, and this one is up first. That means fans can watch on CBSSports.com or via its iOS mobile app (update: Android too). As an added bonus for fans, just like its Super Bowl live stream and in the NFL’s Game Rewind service, there’s an All-22 “eye in the sky” angle available as an alternative to the broadcast feed. Shot from a high view over the 50 yard line to show ever player on the field, it lets fans who dig the Xs and Os watch the way coaches do when they break down game film. Internet viewers will have the alternate camera angle plus live stats, Twitter integration, polls and on-demand video clips.

CBS and Time Warner Cable end blackout, programming to resume at 6PM ET today

Well folks, it looks like Time Warner Cable customers will soon get CBS stations back in their living rooms. The two sides have reached an agreement after dropping channels back in July and programming is set to resume at 6PM ET this evening. TWC says that all customers should have channels back in 24 hours at the latest. In a press release announcing the deal, specific terms were not disclosed but they do include retransmission consent alongside Showtime Anytime for VOD and CBS stations in New York, Los Angeles and Dallas. Of course, this means CBS will be up and running on TWC when the NFL regular season kicks off in less than a week’s time. For a look at the full statement, venture on past the break.

Time Warner Cable handing out free TV antennas and store credit during CBS blackout

Time Warner Cable handing out TV antennas, store credit during CBS blackout

Time Warner Cable may not be in a rush to end the CBS blackout, but it’s not leaving subscribers out in the cold. The TV provider is now giving away a “limited quantity” of basic TV antennas in the Dallas, Green Bay, Los Angeles, Milwaukee and New York City regions. For those who don’t snag a free antenna, the company is also offering $20 in credit toward buying a unit at certain Best Buy stores in those same cities. These sorts of stopgap measures aren’t new, but they may provide some comfort to TWC viewers who aren’t likely to watch CBS channels through cable anytime soon.
