LG G3 For Verizon Press Render Leaked

LG G3 For Verizon Press Render LeakedCome 27th of May, LG is expected to announce their next flagship smartphone, the LG G3. LG has not really been coy about the handset, and it was recently that they uploaded a teaser video to tease us about its impending announcement. However in the meantime, @evleaks has managed to get a leaked render of the upcoming handset.

As you can see in the image above, the LG G3 is expected to make its way onto Verizon’s network, at least based on what we can see from the carrier logos plastered across the handset. As it stands we’re not sure which carriers the LG G3 will be making its way on, but we can only assume that it should at least make its way onto all the four major carriers – AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint.

As a quick recap for those who might have missed the news, the LG G3 is said to pack a 5.5-inch display with a QHD display, giving phones like the HTC One M8 and the Samsung Galaxy S5 a run for its money (at least until the Galaxy S5 Prime). It also appears to sport some kind of brushed metallic look, lending a more premium feel to the device, especially for those who might not appreciate plastic as much.

Availability has not yet been mentioned either, but presumably LG will have more details to share with everyone else come 27th May, so do check back with us then for the details. In the meantime, who else is excited for the LG G3?

Redesigned Gmail Interface For Android Leaked

Redesigned Gmail Interface For Android LeakedBack in April, screenshots of an alleged Gmail redesign were leaked. It seemed to be in line with some of the other redesigns we’ve seen, and also appears to be in line with the design language of Project Hera, a project that Google has been rumored to be working on. However it seems that newly leaked photos of the app seems to suggest otherwise.

The photos come from Yoel Kaseb, the same person who leaked the Google+ redesign which turned out to be true, so perhaps his leak could be pretty credible as well. However like we said, his photos look very different from the ones we saw earlier. We’re not sure why that is – it could be that one of the photos is showing off an older build.

The redesigned Gmail app, however, is in line with the redesigned Google+ app. This means that Google has abandoned the idea of the hamburger menu in favor of a dropdown, and there also appears to be a huge plus sign at the bottom that allows users to compose new messages, which seems to be similar to what we saw before.

In any case perhaps Google is experimenting with different looks, which could explain the discrepancies, but hopefully we will be able to find out more soon as Google I/O will be taking place towards the end of June, so check back with us then for the details.

Nokia Rise Could Be T-Mobile’s Lumia 530 [Rumor]

Nokia Rise Could Be T Mobiles Lumia 530 [Rumor]Is Nokia working on a successor to the Lumia 520? Presumably that is the case, unless they were planning on having the low-end market dominated by phones like the Moto G and the Moto E. That being said, it was just last week that we caught wind that Nokia could be working on a successor to the Lumia 520 in the form of the Lumia 530.

Now according to a post by @evleaks, word on the street has it that the handset could be making its way stateside and onto T-Mobile’s network where it could be known as the Nokia Rise. We’re not sure if the Nokia Rise name is a codename or if it will be the name of the handset when it launches.

After all with devices like the Nokia Lumia Icon, we don’t see the handset couldn’t be known as the Nokia Rise. Unfortunately @evleaks did not mention as to when we might be able to look forward to the handset, but with information about the device starting to leak on a more frequent basis, perhaps we won’t have to wait too long to find out more.

Based on the specs of the handset that we saw in benchmarks, the Lumia 530 is expected to pack an 800×480 display. It will also come with an Adreno 305 GPU. It’s not much to go on right now, but hopefully more will be revealed in the near future, so check back with us for updates then.

Alleged iPhone 6 LCD Backlight Gets Photographed

Alleged iPhone 6 LCD Backlight Gets PhotographedSo far what we’ve seen about the iPhone 6 is mostly its outershell. Those leaks were spotted in leaked photos that are supposedly based on leaked schematics, and have also been used by case manufacturers to test their cases on, so there’s no telling how true or accurate those leaked photos are.

However today we got a new leak, this time a component of the iPhone 6 that comes in the form of the LCD backlight. The photos were posted on the folks at French website, Nowhereelse.fr and based on what we can see in the photos, it appears that it does share some similar traits to the iPhone 5s’ LCD backlight, namely in the design and the connection.

Although we should note that the connecter for the iPhone 6 has been moved slightly towards the left ,and the connecting pins also appears to be different, but we’re not sure if there is any significance to this. The image we can see above is also allegedly that of the 4.7-inch iPhone 6, although there’s no way of telling just from the photo alone, although it does look bigger.

In any case do take it with a grain of salt for now, but this is one of the first few inner components of the iPhone 6 that we’ve come across so far, so hopefully additional photos will surface that can further help us determine some of the specs of the upcoming handset.

Purchase Donuts Using Your Smartphone

Purchase Donuts Using Your SmartphoneIf Homer Simpson had a smartphone with him and actually figured out how to use one, then chances are he would definitely love to hang out at Tim Hortons, as this particular establishment now allows you to purchase donuts without having to fumble around with real paper currency or perhaps take out your plastic for a swipe. This is because Tim Hortons has now jumped aboard the “payment via smartphone” bandwagon, enabling mobile payment options for the masses using iOS, Android and BlackBerry devices.

Not all Tim Hortons outlets will offer such a hassle free payment facility, of course, since only a select few locations will kick start this particular initiative. After all, it needs to be tested out beforehand to make sure that everything runs nice and smooth before it can be implemented across the board, right? That would make perfect sense.

The handset-driven payments will happen over a NFC connection, and for iPhone users, you also have the ability to add Tim Hortons to Passbook for easier access whenever the situation calls for it. There will also be other useful add-ons including restaurant locator, being able to reload funds, and accessing nutritional information among others. It would be cool if one could perform pre-orders as well prior to dropping in ala Starbucks.

LG G3 Design “Makes You Forget” Its 5.5” Size: LG Teaser Video

LG Korea has posted a new LG G3 teaser a few hours ago, which points out that LG intends to come out with a large display form-factor that won’t feel like a regular “phablet”. Looking back at the 5.2” LG G2 and at the various leaks that have been coming out, it’s believable. As I pointed out in my own review of the G2, it did feel very much like a 4.9”-5.0” Smartphone when using it on a daily basis.

So far, the leaked G3 photos hint at a clean design with a thin bezel and what looks like a reduced display frame space at the top and the bottom. What’s out there supports the overall idea that it will most likely be the 5.5” Smartphone with a perceived smaller size.

Based on the G3 leaked specifications that we previously published, the LG G3’s dimensions are 146.3 x 74.6 x 8.9mm. Compare that to another famous 5.5” phone like the Galaxy Note 3 which is 151.2 x 79.2 x 8.3mm big. For reference, the Samsung Galaxy S5 is 142 x 72.5 x 8.1mm.

Note 3 (in mm)151.279.28.3
G3146.274.68.9
S514272.58.1

From those numbers, it looks like it has chosen to reduce the phone’s width and height, but made it 0.6mm thicker to provide nearly the same internal volume as the Galaxy Note 3. This may be a good choice because we’ve seen in the past that phones that are super-thin like the Motorola RAZR leave a space between the phone and the palm of the hand that could be exploited to augment the interval volume of the phone, while making it more “comfortable” to hold at the same time.

As we’re nearing the LG G3 launch date, more details are coming out, and between the 4K Display, the new “metal” industrial design and what seems to be a smaller footprint form-factor, LG is getting ready up for a great launch. In less than two years, the LG Mobile team has consistently pushed the envelope and made one of the most remarkable comeback in Smartphone history. Spotted in the UK, the LG G3 has already gone through the FCC, so brace for the U.S version.

Oppo Find 7 And Find 7a Smartphone Displays Experience Color Issues

Oppo Find 7 And Find 7a Smartphone Displays Experience Color IssuesIf you happen to reside in China and own one of the following two smartphones – the Oppo Find 7 and the Oppo Find 7a, then chances are you might be one of those folks who have seen the display on your smartphone change its color. In fact, this is no small issue, as it has grown to a sizeable “monster” so much so that Oppo has stepped forward to address it in an official statement. Oppo has acknowledged that customers currently experience a couple of issues with the handsets. Firstly, the Find 7a’s display looks to have a tinge of yellow at the bottom edge which is attributed to the uneven distribution of the light along the panel’s surface.

Secondly, the Oppo Find 7’s QHD display has issues too, as owners of the smartphone have complained that this flagship model’s display colors lean too heavily on the yellow side. While Oppo is more than ready to test and replace your Oppo Find 7a if it is found to be defective in this manner, the Find 7’s issues have been touted to be resolved in an earlier software update. What do you think of all that has happened? It is nice to see Oppo stand up and make themselves count.

WhatsApp Now Has Half A Billion Active Users

WhatsApp Now Has Half A Billion Active Users

Its safe to say that WhatsApp is the most popular cross platform messaging service in the world. It has numbers to back up this statement. Just today the company announced that it has reached the significant milestone of having half a billion active users around the world. Collectively users are sharing 700 million photos and 100 million videos every single day through WhatsApp. Some of its fastest growing markets over the last few months have been Brazil, India, Mexico and Russia.

WhatsApp was recently in the news a lot for a totally different reason. Facebook decided to acquire it for a whopping $19 billion. Some believed that Facebook grossly overpaid for WhatsApp, however CEO Mark Zuckerberg is of the view that the service is worth more than the $19 billion he proverbially paid. The deal has already received the green light from FTC, approval from international regulatory bodies is pending.

It has taken WhatsApp roughly a month and a half to add 50 million new active users. The last update on user stats it posted was in February when WhatsApp had 450 million active users. WhatsApp is very well on its way of reaching one billion users. It has witness rapid growth in the past year alone and its certainly not going anywhere anytime soon.

LG G3 Screenshots Hint At New UI, ‘Concierge Service’

LG G3 Screenshots Hint At New UI, Concierge Service

LG is yet to unveil its 2014 flagship smartphone. The LG G3 is expected to be far better than its predecessor. We exclusively confirmed first that it is going to have a 2K display, the company corroborated the report a little later. Now what about the things you’ll actually seen on that display everyday? Purported LG G3 homescreen screenshots have leaked online which hint at a fresh new user interface as well as a new “concierge” service.

The screenshots show a much cleaner and flatter user interface, a revamped notification drawer with circular icons and a revamped weather widget. Digitaltrends, which claims to have received these screenshots from a “trusted industry source,” says that the screens originally had a 2,560×1,440 pixel resolution, yet another confirmation of the fact that the G3 is going to have a 2K display. LG will be the first major manufacturer to adopt this display technology.

Underneath the weather and time widget you can see that the G3 advises the user to take an umbrella as rain is expected. Sources claim that its a part of LG’s new “concierge” service which will debut with the G3, though apparently the name of this service hasn’t been finalized as yet. It will essentially be LG’s own take on Google Now but the scribe hears concierge will “go beyond Google’s system.”

Essentially the service’s focus would be to learn the user’s habits in order to deliver better suggestions. The service wouldn’t be groundbreaking in any aspect but it would certainly be a welcome addition on LG’s next flagship. Rumor has it that the LG G3 is scheduled for release this July.

Motorola And Lenovo’s First Smartphone Reportedly Coming This Fall

Motorola And Lenovos First Smartphone Reportedly Coming This Fall

We already know that Google has agreed to sell Motorola Mobility to Lenovo for $3 billion. The deal hasn’t jumped through all of the regulatory hurdles just yet but already rumors are circulating about the very first smartphone that will be developed by both companies together. The official China Mobile Alliance Weibo account published claims that the first smartphone from Motorola and Lenovo is destined for fall 2014.

Now this is certainly a tough rumor to swallow considering the fact that Motorola’s acquisition deal hasn’t been closed. Significant time is required to design, develop and produce a smartphone. It may take the deal a few months to complete so that may only leave a month or two at most for both companies to come up with a new handset.

The way this would make sense is if Google is already allowing Lenovo to work with Motorola on new products. While this is possible, there hasn’t been any confirmation from the companies involved that an arrangement of this sort has been reached.

No word as yet what Motorola and Lenovo’s first collaboration will be called. Lenovo is also expected to shake up Motorola branding. Apparently the “Motorola by Lenovo” brand might be under consideration, though nothing has been confirmed at this stage. The acquisition deal is expected to be closed in the coming months.
