Android Apps On Windows Phone? A Curious Possibility

Android Apps On Windows Phone? A Curious PossibilityIt is well known that the main weakness of Windows Phone is not the OS code, or even the last-gen hardware – it is in fact the relative lack of apps. And to be fair, the situation is not so bad in an absolute sense, but nearly every Windows Phone users that I know bump into this at some point: there is always an app that you really want, which is not available on Windows Phone.

I think that Microsoft understands that well, and they are doing quite a bit of work to address the situation, but new rumors suggest that Microsoft is considering the unthinkable: run Android apps in Windows Phone. (more…)

Oppo Find 7 Could Come In Two Variants

Oppo Find 7 Could Come In Two VariantsEvery smartphone manufacturer in this day and age would do well to roll out a flagship device that they can call their own in order to represent the pinnacle of the company’s technology. this is somewhat similar to Formula 1, which is a sport that has seen various technology such as ABS “trickle down” to modern day cars. Oppo, a China-based smartphone manufacturer, is touted to feature the Oppo Find 7 in due time (most probably at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, later this month). We have already done a rumor round-up for this particular device, and it seems that Oppo has also unveiled yet another new Find 7 teaser image on its Weibo account, touting that fans ought to expect multiple versions – two in fact, of the flagship device.

Fake Flappy Bird Apps Run Malware Instead

Fake Flappy Bird Apps Run Malware InsteadIt goes without saying that the Flappy Bird craze is not going to die down anytime soon, and we have even heard of reports that a certain Mr. Nelson is renting out his iPhone that has Flappy Bird installed at a rate of $1 per minute, now how about that? Having said that, it must also be noted that a fair number of Flappy Bird clones and similar looking apps have also been “hatched”, where security firms have discovered that these applications actually run malware as they masquerade as a Flappy Bird clone.

Want To Play Flappy Bird? Rent An iPhone

Want To Play Flappy Bird? Rent An iPhoneNow here is a rather interesting method of making some money – renting out your iPhone to folks who are desperate to get their Flappy Bird fix. Do you think that this is one of those ideas that made you go, “Darn, why didn’t I think of that in the first place?” Listings on eBay that sport a smartphone with Flappy Bird installed are no longer allowed and have been taken down, and this move struck US-based Jeff Nelson with the idea of renting out his iPhone to those who cannot get enough Flappy Bird action. After all, Dong Nguyen, the developer of Flappy Bird, decided to take down Flappy Bird from all the app stores that it is available on for “our own good”, and this did not go down well with some folks who have already become hooked to it.

Radiohead Releases Experimental Music Game For Mobile

Radiohead Releases Experimental Music Game For MobileWe know that music has the ability to evoke all sorts of emotions and images from the listener, and despite an artist’s attempt to evoke a particular emotion, the listener could interpret it and feel something completely different, and that is something the band Radiohead is trying to find out with the release of their app called PolyFauna. The app itself will be free and it is sort of like a game where gamers walk through a never-ending series of abstract environments which are populated by lifeforms. These lifeforms can be created by the player by drawing on the screen and it is basically an open-world concept where players can explore the game however they want.

According to a description of the game found on the band’s website, “PolyFauna is an experimental collaboration between us (Radiohead) & Universal Everything, born out of The King of Limbs sessions and using the imagery and the sounds from the song Bloom.” Radiohead frontman, Thom Yorke, described the game as, “It comes from an interest in early computer life-experiments and the imagined creatures of our subconscious.” Players are also encouraged to take snapshots of the environment and upload it onto the band’s website where they can share the images and perhaps talk about a moment in the song(s) that might have inspired them to take that image. LG Ramping Up Flexible Display Production

LG Ramping Up Flexible Display Production

the G Flex with the Note 2 in the background

In terms of smartphones with flexible displays, Samsung and LG are both competing against one another. Both companies have released phones with curved displays in the form of the Samsung Galaxy Round and the LG G Flex and if the rumors are anything to go by, LG could also be the company responsible of providing curved displays to Apple for use in the Cupertino’s rumored iWatch device (along with battery technology too, apparently). That being said, whatever LG has planned, it seems that the South Korean tech company will be ramping up production of flexible displays in anticipation of the smartwatch market.

This is according to Han Sang Beom, CEO of LG Group’s display making arm, who told the Korean media that the company will be increasing investments on small-sized panels to increase production capacity. According to Han, “There are many requests for plastic OLED from our smartphone (making) clients and the interest in wearable devices are pretty high.” He also states, “We will finalize our plan within the first half after observing the market situation (to decide on) substrate size and total production capacity.” We’re not sure if LG’s plans to ramp up production have anything to do with Apple’s iWatch or their own products, but either way it looks like the company is anticipating that flexible displays will be in demand for 2014.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Could Be Dustproof And Waterproof [Rumor]

Samsung Galaxy S5 Could Be Dustproof And Waterproof [Rumor]If there was a theme that Sony had going for them in 2013, it was that for the most part, their Xperia lineup of phones were both dustproof and waterproof, starting with the Sony Xperia Z which was launched during CES 2013. While these features might not necessarily make or break a decision to purchase a device, they are pretty handy and we’re sure many will be thankful should they ever get their phones wet. That being said, could this be a feature that Samsung might adopt for its own Galaxy smartphones? Well according to the Korean media, yes it would be.

According to the reports, Samsung is said to be planning to make dustproof and waterproof features that would be part of their higher-end series of Android devices, like the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5 where the South Korean tech giant reportedly cancelled plans for LDS built-in antennas in favor of IMA technology which allows for waterproof smartphones, albeit at the expense of a slightly thicker device. In any case like we said, we don’t think waterproof and dustproof are features that will make or break a device, but definitely something to take into consideration and definitely marketing material, but what do you guys think?

Leaked Tizen Screenshot “Confirms” New TouchWiz UI

Leaked Tizen Screenshot Confirms New TouchWiz UISo the other day Samsung teased a image on its Twitter account, basically reminding us of its upcoming Unpacked 5 event where supposedly the Galaxy S5 will be announced. What was interesting about the image was Samsung’s use of icons which had many speculating that it could be Samsung teasing us about its new TouchWiz user interface, and now thanks to a leaked Tizen screenshot obtained by the folks at nowhereelse.fr, it has more or less confirmed that the icons used in the teaser image are indeed from Samsung’s upcoming new user interface that we might expect in Tizen devices and the Samsung Galaxy S5.

In the past Samsung has gotten a lot of criticism over its TouchWiz UI, with many complaining about how bloated the software felt. However recent leaks have suggested that Samsung might be trying to do something about it with what appears to be a rather dramatic overhaul in terms of design, offering a more magazine-like feel with tiles, which are also reminiscent of the Windows Phone platform but still a welcome visual refresh nonetheless. In any case we’re not sure if this latest version of Samsung’s Android UI is any better than before, but what we do know is that Google and Samsung have come to an agreement in which Samsung will not overly modify Android which might take away from the Android experience that Google had originally intended.
