Turkey And Twitter Have Not Arrived At Any Tax Deal Yet

Turkey And Twitter Have Not Arrived At Any Tax Deal YetTurkey and Twitter has had a roller coaster relationship in the past month, with the government there laying the banhammer on Twitter, before it was asked to unblock the service. What is the latest development on the situation? Twitter will apparently close some accounts in Turkey, and they will not set up an office there at the moment despite the government wishing otherwise, at least according to a senior Turkish official after they conducted talks that concerned a dispute which saw the Turkish government ban Twitter for a fortnight.

Twitter was not the only victim to fall under Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan’s government last month, as YouTube too, was in the same boat as Twitter. That move drew international condemnation, and it was 11 days ago that the Twitter block was lifted, although YouTube remains blocked in that part of the world. Several accounts that Turkey was not too happy with will be closed, and it remains to be seen whether Twitter would open an office tehre, or fork out money for Turkish tax, which happens to be two main requests from the Turkish government.

The Turkish government official shared, “The two sides understood each other fully after the presentations, and a decision was made to establish a system for cooperation in the future. Some accounts will be closed. At this stage Twitter will not immediately establish a company but the necessary communication will be established via lawyers in Istanbul.”

Amazon Smartphone Spotted

Amazon Smartphone SpottedBGR has apparently gotten hold of the recently talked about Amazon smartphone, which is no mean feat actually. The Amazon smartphone has been a development in progress for a number of years already, so it is really interesting to see it finally come to fruition – making this the first of several own-brand smartphones. From afar, this flagship smartphone looks like a generic touchscreen handset template, but there will be two major focuses on this device – Amazon products and services, as well as a custom 3D interface.

Do bear in mind that what you see above happens to be a prototype device, where it comes in a protective shell that is meant to prevent people without the proper authorization from checking out the physical design of the handset. Other areas of the photos, too, have been blocked out or obscured for security purposes.

The first Amazon smartphone will allegedly run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, where it will be accompanied by the likes of 2GB RAM, powered by a customized version of Google’s Android operating system. This means if you have given Amazon’s tablets a go before, it will be somewhat similar in nature, too. With 720p HD resolution for the alleged 4.7″ display, this would not be able to compete with the high end devices from other manufacturers. Other than that, the main camera at the back is said to feature a 13MP shooter, while there is also a front-facing camera of unknown resolution count. So far, there has been no name attached to this prototype – anyone wants to warrant a guess?

Line Messaging App Announces New Sticons Feature

Line Messaging App Announces New Sticons FeatureIf there is one feature that the messaging app Line is known for, it would be its stickers. The sticker store is constantly updated with new stickers and is used by companies to help market movies and television shows and even music by releasing stickers in its likeness, like Avengers-related stickers, Psy-themed stickers, and so on.

Line has recently announced that they have updated their Android app with a new feature called Sticons. Just in case the name wasn’t obvious enough, Sticons are basically a combination of both stickers and icons. They can be used in regular text messages within the apps (as pictured above), but when sent individually, their size increases to resemble that of a sticker.

Unfortunately this update appears to be available only for Android first while an iPhone version is being worked on. At the moment there are over 1,000 different Sticons to choose from in five different categories: faces, animals, symbols, sports, and vehicles. It is unclear if just like its stickers feature, Line has plans to open up a market for its Sticons where additional Sticons can be purchased for a small fee.

In any case if you’d like to check out Sticons and the Line messenger app, it is free for download and you can head on over to the Google Play store for the download.

WP 8.1 GDR2 Update Could Support 2K Displays And Snapdragon 805 [Rumor]

WP 8.1 GDR2 Update Could Support 2K Displays And Snapdragon 805 [Rumor]Just the other day, Microsoft officially released the preview version of Windows Phone 8.1. This update is primarily targeted at developers as the final version of the build has yet to make its way to the handsets of end users. That being said, we also reported that despite Windows Phone 8.1 having yet to be released, word has it that Microsoft could be planning at least two more GDR updates that will see a release this year, with the third expected to be released in 2015.

So with Windows Phone 8.1 packing a fair amount of new features, such as the Cortana voice assistant feature, what other features will Microsoft bring to the table with future GDR updates? Well according to Nokia Power User, their sources have revealed to them some of the features that could be present in the GDR2 update.

One of the rumored features is support for 2K displays. As it stands Microsoft currently supports displays up to Full HD and with Android devices from Oppo, Vivo, and LG to sport 2K displays, we guess Microsoft thinks that they should probably catch up before it becomes too late. New resolutions support in Windows Phone 8.1 include 960×540 and 854×480.

The rumor also suggests that there will be support for Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipsets as well, meaning that Windows Phone users can probably look forward to even more powerful Windows Phone devices. There’s no way of knowing if any of this is real, but earlier leaked benchmarks have pointed to devices with 2K displays and Snapdragon 805 processor, so perhaps there’s some truth to them, but what do you guys think?

Are you looking forward to even more powerful Windows Phone handsets in the future, and do you think it will help encourage adoption of the platform by OEMs and consumers?

Alleged iPhone 6 Batteries Spotted On Production Tray

Alleged iPhone 6 Batteries Spotted On Production TrayThanks to a series of leaks and rumors, photos of iPhone-related components have surfaced. Recently we saw molds that are allegedly being used for the next-gen iPhone, a front panel, and now thanks to the folks at French website, Nowhereelse.fr, additional photos have surfaced, this time that of batteries that supposedly belong to the iPhone.

While there’s no way of confirming if the photo is real and if the batteries do belong to the iPhone, their design is reminiscent of the batteries used in previous iPhones, so it is possible that these are indeed iPhone batteries. However it’s probably easy enough to fake such photos, so take it with a grain of salt for now.

However it should be noted that the design of these batteries are slightly different from its predecessors. This is namely due to the metallic section on the battery which now appears at the side, suggesting that the internals of the iPhone could have been rearranged, hinting at a new form factor which seems to be in line with the rumors.

The photos do not mention how big the batteries are in terms of capacity, but hopefully Apple has stepped up its battery size as battery life is one of the primary complaints that iPhone owners have about their phone, at least according to a research that Apple did with their customers.

It’s interesting that photos are being leaked this early in the year which would suggest that Apple is beginning to ramp up production of the next-gen iPhone (or iPhones) that would most likely see a launch in the later part of the year, assuming Apple keeps to their schedule of course. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now until we can get the official word from Apple.

LG G3 Rumored For June Announcement, July Release

LG G3 Rumored For June Announcement, July ReleaseAre you looking forward to the LG G3? After all it was only recently that thanks to a leaked photo and confirmation from LG, it has been revealed that the phone will sport a 2560×1440 2K display. This would pretty much make LG the first mainstream smartphone vendor to offer such a device in the market, assuming of course Samsung does not beat them to the punch.

So now that the display of the phone has been confirmed, we know that the device is very real, but when will it launch? Well according to ZDNet Korea, their sources have suggested that the phone could see a launch in the later part of June which could also see the release of the handset in the early part of July.

This seems to go against earlier rumors that pointed at an August release, but apparently this was pushed forward thanks to Samsung’s early release of the Galaxy S5, not to mention LG would have to compete against Apple’s rumored dual iPhones in September, so a release in July would give them time to gain more market share and sell more phones.

In terms of specs, the leaked photo also seemed to confirm that the handset will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset, mainly thanks to the use of the Adreno 330 GPU. It is also unclear as to how big the phone’s display will be, but the photo showed off a density of 640 DPI which is apparently wrong, but previous rumors have suggested anywhere between 5.2-inches to 5.5-inches.

In any case we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more information, so do check back with us at a later date for more details!

Alleged iPhone 6 Front Panel Photo Surfaces

Alleged iPhone 6 Front Panel Photo SurfacesWe have been seeing and hearing a fair amount of iPhone related rumors lately. According to a post from yesterday, photos of an alleged mold used for the iPhone was photographed and according to speculation, it has been suggested that the mold could be used for the 4.7-inch iPhone model that we have been hearing about.

Now thanks to a recent post on Weibo, a new photo has surfaced, this time claiming to be the front panel of the next-gen iPhone. As we can see in the photo, a black iPhone 5s is pictured next to front panel, so as to compare the difference in sizes. As we can all see, it is obvious that the panel to the right is significantly larger, although we’re not sure if this is a 4.7-inch model or the rumored 5.5-inch model. (more…)

BlackBerry Security Patches For iOS And Android BBM Apps To Prevent Heartbleed Exploits

BlackBerry Security Patches For iOS And Android BBM Apps To Prevent Heartbleed ExploitsAlthough BlackBerry might not be the smartphone company that everyone would want to support blindly at this point in time, or would root for in terms of making a comeback in the smartphone industry, credit must be given where it is due. You can say that BlackBerry has been one of the leaders in mobile security, but it still has had its apps affected by the Heartbleed bug.

While majority of the BlackBerry products out there do not use the targeted software, what remains vulnerable to the Heartbleed bug would include the likes of Secure Work Space corporate email, BBM for iOS and BBM for Android. BlackBerry Senior Vice President Scott Totzke did mention that hackers are able to use a Wi-Fi connection or over a carrier network to break into those apps, but the risk of an attack remained small and would need to be carried out within a narrow window of opportunity.

Better to err on the side of caution, BlackBerry has plans to roll out security patches for both BBM apps on the iOS and Android platforms, although they have yet to reveal just when these updates would be sent out exactly. I guess we will just have to sit tight and wait in this case.
