BlackBerry Listed In Top 10 Most Hated Companies In The US

BlackBerry Listed In Top 10 Most Hated Companies In The USBlackBerry is a company that used to be loved by many in the past, although as of late, many have been defecting from BlackBerry onto alternative and more popular smartphone platforms, such as iOS and Android, but it doesn’t mean that the Canadian company isn’t love, nor does it mean that it is hated either, or is it? According to a report from 24/7 Wall St. who ranked the top 10 most hated companies in the US, it seems that BlackBerry comes in at number 9! We’re not sure what BlackBerry has done to make it to the top 10 most hated list, but apparently the list is based on customer and employee satisfaction, stock performance, and management decisions. New HTC M8 Cases Leaked

New HTC M8 Cases LeakedThe other day we reported on a leaked HTC M8 case which seemed to hint that the handset would be arriving with a fingerprint scanner, and now thanks to leaker Sonny Dickson, he has managed to get his hands on what appears to be multiple HTC M8 cases which seems to hint at the handset’s design, at least from the back. For those unfamiliar, Sonny Dickson is the leaker who leaked multiple images of the iPhone 5c ahead of its release, so safe to say he has managed to gain a fair amount of credibility, but do take it with a grain of salt for now. Sonny Dickson claims that these cases are authentic, so hopefully HTC does not pull a fast one on us at the last minute!

As it stands the HTC M8 has been rumored to sport a 2.3GHz processor, a 5” Full HD 1080p display, 2GB of RAM, an upgraded rear-facing camera with twin sensors, and a fingerprint scanner. We’re not sure why HTC has decided to keep a Full HD display rather than opting for a 2K display which seems to be the trend these days, but hopefully the features and performance of the HTC M8 will prove to be good enough for users to overlook its display resolution. The rumors also claim that handset could arrive in March, so hopefully we will learn more at MWC 2014, so be sure to check back with us then for the details.

AT&T LG G Flex Pre-Orders Go Live On January 24

AT&T LG G Flex Pre Orders Go Live On January 24

Notwithstanding the fact that Sprint was the first U.S. carrier to announce that it will carry the “self-healing” LG G Flex smartphone, AT&T has pushed itself ahead of the proverbial curve by announcing today that it will offer G Flex pre-orders starting January 24th. That’s a full week before Sprint is due to take its G Flex pre-orders on January 31st. AT&T is offering the G Flex smartphone for $299 with a two year contract. Customers have the option to purchase the smartphone on the carrier’s 12 and 18 month Next plans, they will have to pay $34.75 and $26.74 per month, respectively.

Announced last year, the G Flex has made quite a name for itself, thanks in part to the 6-inch 1,280×720 pixel resolution OLED curved display. It has a 2.26GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quadcore processor under the hood coupled with 2GB of RAM. Customers will be able to get up to 32GB of onboard storage, apart from a 13 megapixel rear camera, 2.1 megapixel front camera, Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and a 3,500mAh battery. AT&T is yet to reveal exactly when it will start delivering the G Flex to customers to place pre-orders on the 24th. Those who wish to go the “uncarrier” route will have to wait on T-Mobile to reveal the release date for its G Flex variant.

iOS 7.1 Beta 4 Released To Developers

iOS 7.1 Beta 4 Released To Developers

Apple is yet to roll out a major update for iOS 7. Ever since the firmware was publicly released in September 2013, the company has rolled out a few incremental updates to fix bugs and various issues, but so far no major update has graced users’ devices. That might change within a few weeks, as beta 4 of iOS 7.1 has finally been seeded to developers. iOS 7.1 has been making the rounds in beta stage for a few months now, this update is expected to bring user interface tweaks.

Moments ago Apple seeded iOS 7 beta 4 to registered developers, who can now download the latest firmware on their devices and go about finding any bugs or issues that need to be fixed. It is available over-the-air for developers already running a previous beta of iOS 7.1, it comes in at 112MB. Apple only seeds beta firmware to registered developers, these firmware files are not open to the public, they actually can’t be installed on an iOS device that hasn’t been registered as a developer device. The changelog only notes that this new iOS 7.1 beta comes with bug fixes and improvements, we should hear more about the changes once developers have had ample time to go through it. Apple today also released Apple TV software beta 4 and Xcode 5.1 beta 4.

South Korea Carrier To Launch LTE-A Before 2014 Is Over

South Korea Carrier To Launch LTE A Before 2014 Is OverWant to start a pity party of your own? That might be the case after you hear that a South Korean carrier has plans to introduce their very own LTE-A network before the year is over, where it will sport a connection that is capable of delivering a whopping 300Mbps. Of course, 300Mbps here is a theoretical figure as usual, whereas the real life performance of this mobile carrier would differ, depending on what is going on at the backend at that point in time. Not only that, just when you were feeling smug about your new 75Mbps LTE connection, along comes this 300Mbps whopper.

Verizon Shared Data Plans Get New Tier Tomorrow

Verizon Shared Data Plans Get New Tier Tomorrow

Up till now the lowest customers could pay for a Verizon share data plan was $40, which got them 500MB of data per month. Big Red is going to add a new tier tomorrow which will be offered for both smartphone and feature phone users. The new Verizon shared data plan offers 250MB for $20 per month and it can be coupled with a $30 per month feature phone basic plan or with the $40 smartphone access monthly fee. The carrier says that this new tier will only be available for a limited time, though it hasn’t clarified just for how long this new plan is going to be offered.

In this day and age, smartphones are very popular. For most smartphone users, 250MB of data is peanuts. Power users can blow through that in less than a day, Verizon estimates that an average user on its network uses between 1 and 2GB of data every month. So in order to avoid Big Red’s $15 overage charge for every 200MB that exceeds the bucket, customers will be better off with a tier that offers more data for a higher monthly fee. AT&T has a similar offering, the lowest data plan available costs $25 and brings 300MB per month, though that too might prove to be inadequate for the connected smartphone user.

Apple Might Have Sold At Least 50 Million iPhones Last Quarter

Apple Might Have Sold At Least 50 Million iPhones Last Quarter

On January 27th, after the markets close, Apple is going to announce its fiscal Q1 2014 results. Analysts have already started predicting what the figures are going to be, Fortune collected data from 44 analysts, all of them estimate that at the very least Apple was able to sell 50 million iPhones in the previous quarter. Predictions obtained from 27 professional and 17 independent analysts reach a consensus on 55.3 million iPhone units, which results in a 16 percent growth in unit sales as opposed to the same quarter from a year ago.

Apple may have been aided by the popularity of its two new iPhones, the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c. Both smartphones were widely available in the previous quarter, not to mention the fact that the holiday season also came in between, which is usually a time when sales experience a significant boost. Scott Craig of Merrill Lynch is actually the most bullish of all the professional analysts, he predicts that Apple might have sold as many as 58.5 million iPhones, whereas Andy Hargreaves of Pacific Crest plugs the end with a prediction of 50.93 million units. It will be interesting to compare these figures with units sales from the current quarter, when it ends in a couple of months, as in this quarter Apple has finally begun selling its iPhones on the world’s largest mobile carrier, China Mobile. Even the pre-orders are said to be in multi-millions.

300 Mbps LTE-Advanced Networks To Be Launched By Korean Carriers In 2014

300 Mbps LTE Advanced Networks To Be Launched By Korean Carriers In 2014

Mobile internet has rapidly evolved within the last decade. One can’t even imagine that there was a time before 3G not too long ago, when downloading the simplest of files on a mobile device could end up taking a lot of time. Much of the developed world has now become accustomed to 3G, 4G LTE in most cases, having up to 75 Mbps speeds on mobile devices. Though later this year it would be nothing compared to what South Korean carriers are up to. SK Telecom and LG Uplus are both expected to launch their 3band LTE-Advanced service later this year, offering subscribers speeds up to an eye-watering 300 Mbps.

This new service will be based on carrier aggregation, to achieve higher mobile internet speeds multiple bands are combined, SK Telecom has combined one 20 MHz bandwidth and two 10 MHz bandwidths, it is already conducting tests on this new service. LG Uplus, South Korea’s third largest carrier, has also gone down a similar road. This new service is set to offer speeds as high as 300 Mbps, almost four times faster than conventional LTE, and even faster than 150 Mbps LTE-Advanced and 225 Mbps wider-bandwidth LTE-Advanced. Both carriers are expected to launch this service later in 2014, while SK Telecom is already prepping up to showcase speeds of up to 450 Mbps at Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona next month.
