Path Arrives On Windows Phone

Path Arrives On Windows PhonePath on Windows Phone first rolled out to the masses as a public beta, where this social networking app will be able to deliver a special bunch of features that has been specially built for Nokia Lumia devices. As you and I both know very well, there are way too many social networks as well as messaging products which have flooded the market, and most of us are already using at the very least one of them. This begs the question, what would make Path so special?

Nokia Lumia 929 Goes On Sale In China

Nokia Lumia 929 Goes On Sale In ChinaNow this is definitely interesting – the Nokia Lumia 929, which is an unannounced handset (that some claim to be known as the Nokia Lumia Icon), has just gone on sale, in of all places, China. The Nokia Lumia 929 is touted to be a high end smartphone which will run on the Windows Phone mobile operating system, and hugely popular online marketplace TaoBao is touted to sell it for ¥3800 (approximately $628 after conversion) a pop, as an unlocked device, of course.

Huawei Ascend P6 S Launched Without Fanfare

Huawei Ascend P6 S Launched Without FanfareHuawei is expected to launch a bunch of new smartphones, such as the Ascend Mate 2 and the Ascend P6 S. Well the good news for fans is that Huawei has quietly launched the Ascend P6 S without much fanfare, which we have to admit is a little odd. In any case the Ascend P6 S is essentially an upgraded and more powerful version of the Ascend P6, but for whatever reason Huawei did not showcase the handset at CES 2014 earlier this month. Apart from some hardware changes under the hood, the handset will retain the same design as its predecessor and with the “S” moniker, we can’t help but be reminded of Apple’s own series of “S” devices which retain the design but feature upgraded specs over its predecessor.

Either way for those wondering what sort of specs the Ascend P6 S will come with, the handset will sport the same 4.7” 720p HD display as the Ascend P6, and will also work with gloves, meaning that during the winter season, you will still be able to operate and interact with the screen even if you have gloves on. However Huawei has decided to give the processor a speed bump and will now be clocked at 1.6GHz versus 1.5GHz from before. The handset will also come with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, an 8MP rear-facing camera, and a 5MP front-facing camera and will run on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with Huawei’s own UI on top. Priced at $446 it appears that the handset will only be available in China at the moment. No word on a US release at the moment.

Study Suggests Android Has A “Weak Gravity”

Study Suggests Android Has A Weak GravityWithout doubt Android is the leading smartphone platform at the moment, followed by the iPhone. This is thanks to Android devices being manufactured by multiple vendors, and also because of how some users find Android more “open” to customization and tweaks, versus the iPhone which is pretty much what you see is what you get, unless you were to jailbreak it. Android phones also range from being affordable to expensive, so for the first time smartphone owner, a cheaper phone would be a good way to see if they enjoy the platform. However according to a recent study by Foolproof, it has been found that the Android platform had a “weak gravity”, suggesting that Android users who start with Android eventually find themselves drifting towards iOS. Samsung Galaxy S Value Name Trademarked, Hints At Budget Device

Samsung Galaxy S Value Name Trademarked, Hints At Budget DeviceIf there’s one thing good about Android devices is that due to the varying hardware, it can range from low-end to high-end and cater to different markets. This allows companies such as Samsung to gain traction in both developed markets and emerging markets at the same time, and cater to consumers who can afford to shell out for high-end handsets, and also cater to those who only want a phone and aren’t too fussed about its low-end specs. Well if you’re in the latter camp, you might be interested to learn that Samsung has recently filed for a trademark for the name “Samsung Galaxy S Value”.

This is according to the ever-reliable @evleaks who reported on the trademark application. Now there’s no telling what sort of specs we’re looking at but if the name is any indication, it looks like it could be a low-end/budget device, or at least one that’s value for money. There’s also no telling if this could be the final name of the handset when it is released as names can change before the product hits the market. Either way hopefully we will learn more about this Galaxy S Value in the upcoming weeks. For all we know Samsung could be making an announcement of sorts at MWC 2014, so do check back with us then for the details.

LG G Flex For T-Mobile Registration Page Goes Live

LG G Flex For T Mobile Registration Page Goes LiveThe other day Sprint’s registration page for the LG G Flex came online and scheduled the phone for a release on the 7th of February. Well the good news is that if you’d much prefer T-Mobile than Sprint, you might be interested to learn that T-Mobile has put up the registration page for their LG G Flex as well. Do note that this is a registration page for the LG G Flex and not a pre-order page, meaning that you will not have to put down any money at the moment, but simply put in your details in which T-Mobile will then be able to notify you when the phone is made available, which we can only assume won’t be too far behind Sprint’s release. Pricing has not been mentioned ether but presumably it can be paid off via T-Mobile’s Uncarrier program.

In any case as far as specs are concerned, T-Mobile’s version of the LG G Flex will remain the same as all other versions of the phone, although possibly with different radios in order to make it compatible with the carrier’s network. Apart from that customers can look forward to a 6” curved OLED 720p HD display, a 13MP rear-facing camera, 2GB of RAM, and it will be powered by a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with 32GB of onboard storage, a 3,500mAh battery, and will come with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean preinstalled. So, anyone planning on ordering the device when it is released?

BlackBerry Expected To Be The Pentagon’s Device Of Choice

BlackBerry Expected To Be The Pentagons Device Of ChoiceBack in the day, BlackBerry used to be the smartphone and platform of choice for enterprise and government use. This is due to its security features and the ability for IT managers to control the device remotely, allowing them to wipe the handset in the event that it is lost, as well as to manage some of its other features as well. However with BlackBerry declining and with BYOD programs starting to gain more prevalence, what is BlackBerry to do? Well the new CEO John Chen is hoping to turn things around, but in the meantime it looks like BlackBerry will have a staunch supporter at the Pentagon who reportedly will provide employees mostly with BlackBerry handsets.

According to the reports, the Pentagon is apparently looking to roll out 80,000 BlackBerry handsets to its employees starting on the 31st of January. However they also do plan on having some variety and will give out around 1,800 iOS and Android devices as well. The Pentagon also reportedly has plans to hit 100,000 users by the end of the fiscal year, meaning that there is still chance for BlackBerry to push its product to the Pentagon before then. Of course BlackBerry will need more than 100,000 units at the Pentagon to stay in business, but it is a pretty promising start to 2014 and who knows, perhaps other agencies and businesses might follow suit.

Nokia Lumia 1520 Mini/1520 V Rumored To Be In The Works

Nokia Lumia 1520 Mini/1520 V Rumored To Be In The WorksNokia is not necessarily a company that deals with “mini” versions of their phones. Those mini variants are usually best left to Samsung and Sony who have released such devices in the past, but it seems that Nokia could be working on a mini version of one of its phones, at least that’s according to the rumors. According to reports out of China, it seems that Nokia is rumored to be working on a Lumia 1520 mini, or Lumia 1520 V which is its alleged moniker. It will be based on the Lumia 1520 but will sport different specs, which in all honesty sounds a bit like the rumored Nokia Lumia 929 a.k.a Lumia Icon for Verizon.

So what sort of specs are we looking at? Well for starters it is rumored to sport a 4.3” display but interestingly enough, Nokia will be maintaining the Full HD 1920×1080 display, meaning that in terms of sharpness, the Lumia 1520 V will be a force to be reckoned with. It is also rumored to feature 2GB of RAM, 32GB of onboard storage, and come with a 14MP PureView camera, and a 3,000mAh battery to top it off. Based on these specs it does sound a bit like the Lumia Icon for Verizon, just with a much smaller display. The Lumia 1520 V is rumored for a launch after Windows Phone 8.1 is released in April. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but what do you guys think?

6tindr Pulled From Windows Phone Store As Per Tinder’s Request

6tindr Pulled From Windows Phone Store As Per Tinders RequestThe other day we reported that 6tindr, the unofficial Tinder app for Windows Phone, had been released. The app was developed by Rudy Huyn, a developer well-known in the Windows Phone circles for creating and releasing unofficial apps for the Windows Phone platform, apps that the original developers might have forgotten or not bothered to release for Windows Phone. In any case it looks like Tinder is not too happy about Huyn’s activities and have since requested the app to be removed from the Windows Phone store after complaining to Microsoft about it. Granted that 6tindr is based on Tinder, we guess the developers aren’t too thrilled about unofficial versions which could have the potential to tarnish their reputation.

However according to Huyn who wrote a short letter to Tinder, “If you want me to remove 6tindr from the Windows Phone Store I will respect your wishes, however I appeal to you that we work together so we can provide your new Windows Phone users – who are clearly passionate about using your service – with an awesome Tinder experience. I request that you please allow me the pleasure of helping you grow the popularity of Tinder within the Windows Phone community. I feel that together we can do great things for Windows Phone users, and I’d love to assist in any way possible to help bring an official Tinder app to Windows Phone.” Fair enough, don’t you guys think?

Verizon’s Lumia Icon Goes On Sale In China

Verizons Lumia Icon Goes On Sale In ChinaThe Nokia Lumia 929 a.k.a Lumia Icon is very real. We’ve seen the device pop up on Verizon’s website and last we heard, it was rumored for a 16th of January release, but safe to say that did not happen. We’re not sure why Verizon is waiting around to announce the handset, let alone release it. Could it be that they are waiting to make an announcement at MWC 2014? Well whatever the case is, it seems that the Lumia Icon has managed to traverse the seas/skies and make its way into China where it is being sold, and interestingly and bizarrely enough, it looks like the model sold in China is actually Verizon’s model and boots up with Verizon’s logo (pictured above).

This seems to suggest that Verizon might have stock of the Lumia Icon but might be simply sitting on it for whatever reasons. The listing in China has given it a price tag of $630, which we’re not sure if it could be reflective of Verizon’s own pricing. For those hearing about the Lumia Icon for the first time, it is basically a smaller version of the Lumia 1520. Instead of sporting a large 6” display, the Lumia Icon is said to sport a smaller and more manageable 5” display, and for the most part will retain the same hardware specs as the Lumia 1520. In any case we’ll definitely keep our eyes peeled for more information regarding the Lumia Icon’s availability, so check back with us at a later date for the details.
