AT&T Announces New Aggressive Marketing Slogan

AT&T Announces New Aggressive Marketing SloganDoes AT&T have a clear edge over the competition? Perhaps in some areas AT&T’s coverage might be better, and in some instances the carrier’s plans could be cheaper too, and depending on who you get on the phone, sometimes their customer service can be more helpful than the competition as well. Of course all of this is highly subjective but that has not stopped the carrier from bragging about how much better they do it than everyone else, which was revealed in a new marketing slogan announced by the carrier. In the latest marketing slogan from AT&T, they are claiming to be “Bigger than T-Mobile, faster than Verizon Wireless and more reliable than everybody.”

Oddly enough they did not mention Sprint. Perhaps Sprint might be too small to bother with, or perhaps Sprint is doing something better than AT&T that they are unable to prove, but either way it seems that the competition is definitely heating up and 2014 could be a pretty aggressive year for carriers to market themselves to consumers. Speaking to the folks at FierceWireless at CES 2014, the carrier’s CMO, David Christopher, acknowledged that the carrier’s latest slogan was an aggressive move, claiming “We are just letting people know what a great experience we offer […] We want to focus on what we bring to the market and tout our capabilities. We will never go away from that.”

Could this merely be for the sake of marketing? Or could it be that AT&T is actively trying to outdo the competition, namely T-Mobile who had recently announced their plans to purchase some of Verizon’s spectrum for $2.3 billion, essentially turning themselves into a power house that AT&T needs to keep an eye on. Will AT&T’s new marketing slogan work, or will it backfire on them? What do you guys think?

Microsoft: iPhone Outsold By Windows Phone In 24 Markets

Microsoft: iPhone Outsold By Windows Phone In 24 MarketsNow, when you hear a particularly provocative statement such as the above, what kind of conclusion can you draw? For starters, does this mean that the iPhone is in big trouble, and Apple’s stock is going to slide on a downward spiral with no way of checking it in sight? Not really, and a whole lot of it depends on how you read the situation. Basically, everyone knows that Windows Phone has gained some grounds in the last year, especially with the entry level Nokia Lumia 520 and Lumia 521 handsets, while on the high end of the spectrum, there is the Nokia Lumia 1520.

Courtesy of the GDR3 update, Windows Phone OEMs are now able to construct a smartphone with equal specifications to the Android platform, which is good news. Not only that, Christopher Flores, director of communications for Microsoft, touts that Windows Phone happens to be the second most popular platform in 14 markets around the world, and in two dozen markets, it has started to outsell the iPhone. The thing is, we do not know which markets that Flores was referring to, although it is a no brainer that most of the growth happens to be heading its way from emerging markets as the iPhone has proven itself to be cost prohibitive.

    ZTE Grand S II Announced

ZTE Grand S II Announced[CES 2014] CES is back and roaring, and the folks over at ZTE have decided to introduce a new sequel to the ZTE Grand S that was introduced last year, where it is known as the ZTE Grand S II – how obvious. Its predecessor, the ZTE Grand S did look pretty decent at first glance, not to mention the fact that it was extremely thin, but it came with a 1,780 mAh battery, which isn’t too much at all considering this would mean it offers relatively little battery life, and would be best serving our interests as a featurephone. As for the ZTE Grand S II, it does seem to fare a whole lot better, boasting of a 3,000 mAh battery that pretty much places it on par with majority of the decent performers in the existing generation of smartphones.

Other hardware specifications of the ZTE Grand S II include a 5.5” 1080p Full HD touchscreen display, a 13MP shooter at the back, a 2MP camera in front, a quad-core 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, and 16GB of internal memory. Android will be the operating system of choice here, and it also comes with its own voice recognition software. No idea on pricing details though, so stay tuned!

AT&T Announces Their Continued Support Of BlackBerry

AT&T Announces Their Continued Support Of BlackBerryBlackBerry isn’t exactly in the best position right now. They might have received a $1 billion investment from Fairfax Financial, but apart from that it does not seem to have done much for the company. BlackBerry’s market share is still pretty small compared to iOS and Android, and the company’s competitor, Windows Phone, is definitely playing catchup. In fact we had heard how two of BlackBerry’s phones for 2014 had been cancelled, which could be the rumored BlackBerry Z50 and Q30, the follow-ups to 2013’s devices. Like we said it certainly looks bleak for the Canadian company, but as it turns out, not everyone believes that BlackBerry is doomed and AT&T has announced their continuing support of the company.

In an interview with CNET’s Roger Cheng, AT&T’s CEO, Ralph de la Vega openly announced his support for the company, stating that he believes BlackBerry’s current CEO, John Chen, has a good plan. ”We’re supporting their efforts to continue being a viable supplier.” There have been rumors that carriers such as T-Mobile could be dropping BlackBerry entirely from their lineup due to poor sales, but in any case during times like these, it is good that BlackBerry still has their supporters. Will 2014 be the year of BlackBerrys comeback? We guess we will just have to wait and see.

Snapchat CEO Reveals Why They Turned Down Facebook’s $3b Offer

Snapchat CEO Reveals Why They Turned Down Facebooks $3b OfferBack in 2013, there was a report on how Snapchat had turned down an offer by Facebook worth $3 billion to be acquired by the social media giant. Many were shocked because let’s face it, $3 billion is a lot of money, not to mention having it possibly integrated with Facebook could take Snapchat to ever greater heights. Back then it was not mentioned officially, but many speculated that the reason behind the turn down was because Snapchat thought that they were worth a lot more, and now according to an interview with Forbes, Snapchat’s CEO, Evan Spiegel, revealed why the company decided to turn down Facebook’s offer. Turkish Bank App For Windows Phone Incorporates Augmented Reality

Turkish Bank App For Windows Phone Incorporates Augmented RealityBank apps are a dime a dozen and to be honest there’s really nothing overly special about them. For the most part they do as advertised, which is to manage your online bank accounts, transfer funds, make payments, and so on, but over in Turkey, it seems that one particular bank, Akbank, is hoping to shake things up a bit with the inclusion of augmented reality in their bank app for Windows Phone. Yup, you read that right, a bank app is about to include augmented reality, making it possibly one of the coolest bank apps we’ve heard about to date!

So what’s with the augmented reality? What can it be used for? Well ever had to look for a nearby ATM? Granted most banks offer that service but usually in the form of a map, which to be honest might be tricky especially since unlike bank branches, ATMs can be somewhat inconspicuous, meaning you could walk by and not even notice it is there. Well with Akbank’s augmented reality app, it shows you (screenshot above) where nearby ATMs are in relation to you, providing a more pin-point accurate method of tracking down the nearest ATM. Unfortunately we do not live in Turkey so we cannot try out the app for ourselves, but we have to admit it is a pretty cool idea.
