Sony Xperia SP Andorid 4.3 Update Release Expected Soon

Sony Xperia smartphone owners have been patiently waiting for the company to release the much awaited Android 4.3 update. It has indeed started the roll out process, with the update already having been released for the Xperia Z1 and the Z Ultra. Merely a couple of days back, The Xperia Z, ZR, ZL and the Xperia Tablet Z all received their Android 4.3 updates. Sony Xperia Sp owners shouldn’t worry about being left out, it appears that the update they have been waiting for might just be around the corner.

A member on the XDA developers forum, who appears to be an official beta tester for Sony, has posted a picture of his Xperia SP running Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. Moreover, a new firmware build has been certified for this smartphone just a few days back and it is believed that this might be an Android 4.3 build. Going by these developments, it shouldn’t be long before the update is finally rolled out over the air for all Xperia SP variants, C5302, C5303 and C5306. The Xperia SP is also slated to receive the much sought after Android 4.4 KitKat update, though that might not happen until we’re well into 2014. A number of other Xperia smartphones are also yet to be updated to KitKat.

Apple Patent Details Siri’s Ability To Sort Through iOS Photos

Apple Patent Details Siris Ability To Sort Through iOS Photos

Siri, the virtual private assistant that lives inside quite a few iOS devices, can do much more today as opposed to when it was originally launched. Over the years Apple has improved this service greatly, and a new patent filing reveals the possibility that the company might be considering making Siri capable of sorting through photos stored on an iOS device. Titled “Voice-Based Image Tagging and Searching,” the patent describes a method in which “natural language” text strings are attached with photos saved on a mobile device.

The strings can cover an activity, location or an entity, thus making it easier for users to sort and search photos on their devices, this would be particularly useful for those who tend to take a lot of photos. For example, if a photo is tagged with a string which goes like “This is me at the beach,” simply including this string in a relevant voice command given to Siri would bring up all photos tagged with it. An example mentioned in the patent describes that simply asking the device to “Show me photos of me at the beach,” would let Siri to bring up related items. Apple filed this patent earlier in the year, in March to be precise. So far this feature has not made it to iOS, and there’s no way to be certain when it ultimately will.

Taig App Store Removed From iOS 7 Untethered Jailbreak After Piracy Concerns

Taig App Store Removed From iOS 7 Untethered Jailbreak After Piracy Concerns

Last week, out of the blue, the evad3rs developers team released the iOS 7 untethered jailbreak for all supported devices. It was an unexpected release because the community wasn’t made aware of the progress for quite some time, which is usually the case with planned jailbreak releases. Some believe that evad3rs might have rushed to get it out the door when rumors started circulating that the iOS 7 untethered jailbreak exploit had been stolen and sold to a private buyer. After the release, users who had language set to Chinese found that they got the Taig app store instead of Cydia and it was then revealed that evad3rs had teamed up with the Chinese company to load its storefront on those jailbroken devices that had language set to Chinese. Almost a week later, they have updated the evasi0n iOS 7 untethered jailbreak to remove Taig.

The community had voiced its concern about the fact that Taig was hosting a plethora of cracked applications and tweaks, which can’t be found by default on Cydia. Given that the jailbreak developers have always been against piracy, the team vowed to work with Taig to remove pirated applications. However once they figured that ”the depth of the transgression against the software developers and jailbreak community” couldn’t be overlooked, they decided to remove Taig from iOS 7 untethered jailbreak altogether. It was rumored that perhaps the company had paid $1 million to the team so that Taig could be bundled, however evad3rs have denied this allegation.

Sprint And T-Mobile Acquisition Talks Reportedly In Final Stages

Sprint And T Mobile Acquisition Talks Reportedly In Final Stages

It has been rumored that Sprint is interested in acquiring T-Mobile, the “uncarrier” that made a number of bold decisions this past year. There’s no doubt in the fact that T-Mobile’s popularity has increased in 2013, and as it looks towards the new year and its upcoming uncarrier 4.0 announcement, the possibility exists that it might be acquired by Sprint, effectively turning the latter into the third largest U.S. carrier. According to the latest from Nikkei, talks between both carriers have reportedly entered the final stages.

So far no official confirmation or comments have been made regarding this rumored merger. AT&T pursued a similar bid for T-Mobile in the past, offering $39 billion for it only to be turned down by regulators. That deal fell through a couple of years back and it was only earlier this year when rumors about Sprint’s interest in T-Mobile started circulating. It is believed that Softbank CEO is already courting five financial institutions to obtain financing to the tune of $20 billion for the T-Mobile acquisition. Softbank has already acquired Sprint, which right now is trailing behind AT&T. Having T-Mobile’s infrastructure and subscriber base on board would allow it to effectively compete against the behemoths in this industry. Rumor has it that if the acquisition goes through, we can expect it to close by the end of the first half of 2014.

Alleged 3D Printout Of The HTC One Two Gets Pictured

Alleged 3D Printout Of The HTC One Two Gets PicturedCome 2014, many are expecting HTC to release a follow-up handset to 2013’s HTC One handset. We have heard the rumors which have suggested that the handset could be known as the HTC M8, although recent rumors have suggested otherwise, instead referring to the handset as the HTC One Two which is apparently not a single device, but rather the name of a lineup of new devices from the Taiwanese company. In any case thanks to a newly leaked photo, we might have an idea of what the HTC One’s successor could look like, which is to say it will look exactly the same as the HTC One.

This is based on leaked images of a 3D printout of the handset which is supposedly based on specifications of the HTC One’s successor. For the most part it looks like there isn’t a huge change in terms of design, although its edges do seem a tad rounder. While we can’t tell based on the 3D printout, the handset is also rumored to be keeping the Boomsound speakers on the top and bottom of the handset, providing a stereo sound effect when held horizontally. The device is also rumored to sport a slightly larger display at 5”, a slight upgrade over the HTC One’s 4.7” display.

If anything this 3D printout is similar to what we have seen in the past, but until we get the official word, take it with a grain of salt for now, but hopefully we will learn more at either CES or MWC 2014, both of which are around the corner.

Nokia Claims They Have Been Gaining Ground In The Enterprise Market

Nokia Claims They Have Been Gaining Ground In The Enterprise MarketIn the enterprise space, BlackBerry used to reign supreme, at least until a year or two ago when things started to go downhill for the Canadian company. What this meant is that while BES might have been a given or the first choice for many companies, it suddenly became a less attractive option, with more employers and employees starting to favor a BYOD (bring your own device) program, where they could bring in a variety of smartphones to work, such as iPhones, Android devices, BlackBerry phones, Windows Phones, and etc.

This also meant that the enterprise market was up for grabs, although according to a report from The Times of India, it would seem as though Nokia is picking up where BlackBerry has left off as the Finnish company has recently claimed that they have managed to add over 400 firms as customers for their range of Lumia Windows Phone devices. According to Nokia India director, sales, Raghuvesh Sarup, “Bring your own device (BYOD) has helped us gain strong ground in the enterprise segment, especially for our Lumia smartphones. With Microsoft as a partner with us, companies have access to productivity solutions as well […] CIOs are primarily concerned about the security aspect which is again well taken care of by Lumia range” Will Nokia be able to gain a lead over the likes of Apple and Google? Or will BlackBerry fight back and reclaim their crown? We guess only time will tell.

    Oppo N1 Pepsi Edition Revealed

Oppo N1 Pepsi Edition RevealedIt was just last week that the Oppo N1 was launched, making it the world’s first smartphone to come with the popular CyanogenMod ROM preinstalled. Well for those looking for a slightly different design for their Oppo N1 handset, perhaps the Pepsi edition could be of interest to you! Pictured above is the Oppo N1 which will come with a Pepsi-theme launched and packaging, but other than that the internal specifications of the handset should remain the same as its regular counterpart. This means that if you were to get your hands on the device, you can look forward to a 5.9” 1080p Full HD display, 2GB of RAM, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, with a 13MP camera that can be rotated.

So how does one get their hands on the Pepsi edition of the phone? Well it seems that it will not be going on sale officially, but rather will be given out by Pepsi in competitions. What this means is that while it will not be for sale via official channels, we can expect that enterprising winners of the handset will try to sell it via third-party channels such as eBay, for example, although given that this will be available in China, you might have to dig a little deeper if you want to get your hands on the device. What do you guys think? Digging the Pepsi theme?

Alleged LG G3 Specs Include QHD Display And Octa-Core Processor

Alleged LG G3 Specs Include QHD Display And Octa Core ProcessorIt was a few months ago that LG launched the LG G2 which was the South Korean tech company’s flagship smartphone for 2013. It was an impressive handset and it also featured a new design from the company (which some have compared to Samsung’s designs) and also packed a pretty decent camera that could give the Nokia Lumia 1020 a run for its money in terms of low-light photography. That being said, we’re sure many are interested in seeing what the LG G3 could have to offer, but is it too soon to start hearing about LG G3 rumors?

Well make what you will of it, but recent rumors have surfaced regarding the potential specifications of the upcoming handset. For starters it is believed that just like other phones before it, like the Vivo Xplay 3S and the upcoming Oppo Find 7, and the rumor specs of the Samsung Galaxy S5, the LG G3 is rumored to feature a 2560×1440 display, although no word on screen size just yet. Additional specs include an octa-core processor which is rumored to be of LG’s own make, and a 16MP rear-facing camera. No word on when the LG G3 will be launched, but some are speculating it could be earlier than expected in a bid to make up for “disappointing” LG G2 sales.

Take it with a grain of salt for now, but we’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for more details as they surface. In the meantime what do you guys make of the rumored specs so far? It seems that 2014 could the year of QHD displays!

HTC One Two (One 2) Could Be A Series Of Phones, Not Just A Single Device [Rumor]

HTC One Two (One 2) Could Be A Series Of Phones, Not Just A Single Device [Rumor]We have heard the rumors that HTC is planning on launching a successor to the HTC One of 2013, and if the rumors are to be believed, there is a good chance the handset could be known as the HTC One Two (or HTC One 2, whichever you prefer). However according to recent reports, it has been suggested that the HTC One Two will not be the name of the handset itself, but rather it could be the name of a lineup of HTC devices. Back in 2012 HTC launched the HTC One series of handsets which consisted of the One X, One S, and One V, so we suppose this would not be completely out of the question.

According to the reported which was originated from an analyst from Taipei, Wilson Miao, the handset will allegedly come with separate lenses that have been designed for either low or high lighting conditions. However given that recently leaked photos of the HTC One’s successor does not seem to point to separate lenses, take this one with a grain of salt for now. While a HTC publicist was reported as saying that “it’s kind of too early” to be discussing 2014’s lineup, analysts are expecting its successor to come around March 2014.

The HTC One was announced earlier this year so we would have expected to see a similar timeframe in 2014 as well, but since CES and MWC 2014 are around the corner, perhaps we will learn more there, so check back with us  then for more details.

Oppo R1 Is Official, Will Cost Around $410

Oppo R1 Is Official, Will Cost Around $410After teasing the handset and seeing leaked photos, Oppo has officially taken the wraps off its brand new handset, the Oppo R1. Unlike the Oppo Find 7 which appears to pack some pretty impressive hardware, the Oppo R1 will instead focus more towards the camera side of things and looks to provide users with a smartphone camera that does well in low-light photography, allowing it to compete with the likes of the Nokia Lumia 1020 and the LG G2, both of which are pretty impressive when it comes to snapping photos in low-light conditions.

The Oppo R1 will feature an 8MP rear-facing camera with an f/2.0 aperture which should be wide enough to let light in without having to resort of flash. While we have yet to try it for ourselves, Oppo states that it is capable of delivering excellent images. As for the rest of the specs, the Oppo R1 will sport a 5” 720p HD display and will be powered by MediaTek’s MT6582 chipset clocked at 1.3GHz (quad-core). It will also come with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage, a 2,410mAh battery, and will run on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. The handset is priced around $410 but unfortunately Oppo did not mention if and when it might make its way stateside.
