Sony Xperia Z1s Goes Through The FCC

Sony Xperia Z1s Goes Through The FCCThe Sony Xperia Z1s has been spotted in the wild before, where some folks have also called it the Xperia Z1 mini. Apparently, the Sony Xperia Z1s has made its rounds through Postel, which happens to be the wireless authority in the nation of Indonesia. Well, we are glad to say that the Sony Xperia Z1s has finally made its way over to the US, thanks to some documents from the FCC which reveal a diagram of the device, where from there, we have also garnered information about the size of its footprint – measuring 129mm x 64.9mm.

As for the software version of the Sony Xperia Z1s, it has been listed as 14.2.A.0.144, which should point to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean (apparently, when it came to the Xperia Z Ultra, 14.2.A.0.290 happened to be the listing which was equivalent of the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update). For those who are not in the know, the Sony Xperia Z1s happens to be a smaller version of the Z1 flagship, where it comes equipped with a 4.3″ 720p display, running on a Snapdragon 800 chipset, sporting a 20.7-megapixel camera alongside a water-resistant design. Whispers on the street have it that the Sony Xperia Z1s will arrive sometime in the first quarter of next year, sporting a $590 price point. [FCC Page]

Vivo Sends Out Invites For Xplay 3S Event In China

We have been hearing rumors about the Vivo Xplay 3S for a while now, and according to the recent rumors, the handset is expected to sport a pretty impressive 2k display, beating out the competition at the moment who only feature Full HD 1080p displays. In any case it looks like the rumors are about to be put to rest as Vivo has recently started to hand out invites to an event which is scheduled to take place on the 18th of December, which is a delay from the original date which was reportedly pegged for the 12th of December, which is today.

In any case those in the media in China have started to receive their invitations, and instead of a regular electronic invitation, Vivo has sent out physical invitations which might seem rather antiquated and boring, but for those who owns a device with NFC capability, well the invite is anything but boring, which you can check out in the video above. According to the rumors, the Vivo Xplay 3S is rumored to feature a display with a resolution of 2,560×1,440. It has also been rumored to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 chipset with 3GB of RAM, and a camera with an aperture of f/1.8, making it an ideal device for low-light photography.

If you have a few minutes to spare, you will want to check out Vivo’s pretty clever invite in the video above, and be sure to check back with us later for the details!

Oppo Teases Find 7 As “Coming Soon”

Oppo Teases Find 7 As Coming SoonThe Oppo Find 7 while not yet released, is not exactly a “new” phone per se, but according to Oppo’s Weibo, the company has teased that the Find 7 will be coming soon, although they did not mention when we might be able to see it. However given that we’re almost at the end of the year, chances are that we will probably be learning more about the device come 2014, either CES or MWC. Like we said earlier, the Find 7 is not exactly a new device as we had heard about the handset earlier this year.

The phone will be the successor to the Oppo Find 5 and interestingly enough it looks like Oppo has given the handset some upgrades to its hardware, bumping its display from a 5” Full HD to a 5.7” 2,560×1,440 2k display, joining the likes of the Vivo Xplay 3S which has been rumored to sport a 2k display as well. It is also rumored to feature an upgraded Qualcomm chipset in the form of the Snapdragon 805, sport 3GB of RAM, a 13MP rear-facing camera, and a 5MP front-facing camera, 4G LTE connectivity, and a 4,000mAh battery.

In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but do check back with us in the near future for more details!

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Lite Reportedly Enters Production

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Lite Reportedly Enters ProductionThe other day we reported that Samsung was rumored to be working on a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Lite that could possibly see an announcement at MWC 2014. Based on the product’s name itself, we could only assume that this would be a slightly less powerful version of the Galaxy Note 3 and would be priced more affordably. According to recent rumors, it would seem as though Samsung has begun production on the Galaxy Note 3 Lite on the 12th of December, and according to the report, Samsung is expecting that the Galaxy Note 3 Lite will account for 30% of total Galaxy Note 3 sales.

Assuming that this is case, that would be a lot of Galaxy Note 3 Lite units sold! Last we heard the Galaxy Note 3 managed to achieve 10 million units sold in just 60 days alone, so if we’re basing it on that, it means that Samsung expects to sell at least 3 million units. Since the specs of the Galaxy Note 3 Lite is not official, the rumors are claiming that the handset will be keeping the same display at 5.68”, but it might switch from Super AMOLED to LCD, and will see its camera downgraded from 13MP to 8MP instead. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled and hopefully we will learn more at MWC 2014.

Samsung Loses iOS Embargo And Request For Damages In South Korea

Samsung Loses iOS Embargo And Request For Damages In South KoreaWhen it comes to the legal battle against Apple, it seems as though Samsung just can’t catch a break, even in their home of South Korea where the courts have recently ruled against their request for an iOS embargo. According to the lawsuit, Samsung had sued Apple for alleged patent infringement and was seeking an embargo against a variety of iPhone and iPad models in South Korea, and also asked for damages in the amount for $95,100. Unfortunately for Samsung, both the embargo and fine were denied as the judge ruled that the iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, and the iPad did not violate any of Samsung’s utility patents regarding short message and message display features.

The judge also stated that Apple could have just as easily developed the technology on their own, and would not have had to copy Samsung’s patent. Unsurprisingly Samsung is none too happy about the ruling, with a statement saying, “As Apple has continued to infringe our patented mobile technologies, we will continue to take the measures necessary to protect our intellectual property rights.” Apple on the other hand was more than happy about the results, with spokesperson Steve Park stating, “We are glad the Korean court joined others around the world in standing up for real innovation and rejecting Samsung’s ridiculous claims.”

Moto X And Moto G Orders Delayed For Some Due To Winter Storm Dion

Moto X And Moto G Orders Delayed For Some Due To Winter Storm DionSometimes, nature likes to throw a spanner in the works, and despite all of the technological achievements that we have made so far, any one of them would still pale in comparison to the kind of fury that nature can kick up. Having said that, there are certain quarters who claim that the Moto X as well as Moto G orders of theirs have not yet shipped or are delayed, not to mention the Moto Maker website pointing to a shipping time of 13 days. Is there a very good reason for this seemingly unprecedented delay? Motorola has been approached about this matter, and apparently, the blame lies solely due to Winter Storm Dion that has caused more than its fair share of trouble in Texas.

It seems that Motorola’s manufacturing/shipping facility happens to be located in Fort Worth, Texas, which fell under the tempest of Winter Storm Dion over the weekend. Motorola mentioned this about the storm, “Unfortunately a winter storm is causing hazardous conditions in Fort Worth, where our factory is located. Our top priority is the safety and well-being of our team members, as well as providing the highest level of service to our customers. We are taking steps to make up any lost time, but we anticipate some delays.”

It would have been nice to see Motorola update their customers ASAP once the storm hit and they made such a decision though.

Crytek To Release “The Collectables” Mobile Game

Crytek is probably a name that many are familiar with when it comes to games on consoles and the PC, especially when the games are visually stunning. Titles such as Crysis 3 and Ryse: Son of Rome come to mind, and the good news for mobile gamers is that if you’ve loved Crytek’s previous releases, you might be interested to learn that the company will be entering the mobile space with their first title, The Collectables, which somehow makes me think of The Expendables. In any case the game will be Crytek’s first foray into mobile game and it will be a free-to-play title for iOS and Android.

The game will use the company’s CryEngine technology and will put gamers in charge of a squad of heroes where they travel the globe and accomplish missions. The game will be published by DeNA and according to Cryetk’s Paha Schulz, “DeNA offers unparalleled experience in the mobile gaming space, and we’re excited to be collaborating with their team to deliver The Collectables to players. The Collectables will be the first free-to-play mobile game that leverages Crytek’s cutting-edge 3D game technology CRYENGINE.”

The game is set for a release in 2014, but no specific dates have been provided. In any case if you’re wondering what the game might look like, be sure to check out the game’s trailer in the video above.

Is Google Replacing Gallery On Android With The Photos App?

Is Google Replacing Gallery On Android With The Photos App?Just the other day, it was revealed that both the LG G Pad 8.3 and the Sony Xperia Z Ultra would be getting Google Play editions, and while this is great news for those who are looking for a more stock Android experience, it has been discovered that both devices are missing the Gallery app. For those unfamiliar, the Gallery app is where photos and videos are typically stored on an Android device. However instead of Gallery, Google only provided the Photos app which according to some, pales in comparison to the Gallery app when it comes to photo editing option.

If that is the case, why is Google trying to get everyone to use Photos? Well Photos has Google+ integration, and lately we’ve been seeing how Google is trying to get everyone to hop onboard its Google+ social networking platform. We saw this when Google rolled out a new YouTube commenting system that saw Google+ integration in the comments, essentially making users sign up for a Google+ account if they wish to leave comments on videos. There’s no telling if Gallery is gone for good or if Google is simply looking for feedback by trying it out on the G Pad and Xperia Z Ultra, but what do you guys think?

Instagram’s Messaging Feature Reportedly “Confirmed” For Tomorrow

Instagrams Messaging Feature Reportedly Confirmed For TomorrowIt has been rumored that Instagram will be announcing a new private messaging feature in its app in an update, and come 12th of December, the company is expected to announce something, which hardly seems like a coincidence. According to the folks at TechCrunch, they claim that they are able to confirm that what’s being launched on the 12th of December will be the messaging feature that has been rumored. Interestingly enough it will not be your typical instant messenger as their sources claim that these messages will disappear over time, which we can’t help but be reminded of Snapchat.

Instagram’s private messaging feature was rumored shortly after there were reports that Instagram’s parent company, Facebook, attempted to acquire Snapchat. For those unfamiliar, Snapchat is an app that allows users to send photos to one another that will be erased after a certain amount of time, making it great to send private and confidential images and not have to worry that it might be stored on the device of the recipient. Of course since this is hardly an announcement, take it with a grain of salt for now, but do check back with us tomorrow for the details!
