Xiaomi Looks To Expand Into South East Asia

Xiaomi Looks To Expand Into South East AsiaThe capitalist market basically says this, may the best company win. That would mean being on the lookout always to expand one’s market beyond what is currently available at the moment, or creating one if there are none. Xiaomi has been pretty successful in the markets which it is in at the moment, and they include China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. The thing about capturing the China market is this – with more than 1 billion plus people living there, you can already “make it big”, so to speak, by coming up tops. If you want to increase your revenue, it is time to look elsewhere. Xiaomi intends to do this, and they have cast their eyes on South East Asia with the city state of Singapore being the first stop.

Hugo Barra mentioned about Xiaomi’s future at a press event that took place in Taiwan recently, where he claimed that Xiaomi is attempting to get their “operations for Southeast Asia set up as quickly as possible.” Singapore happens to be an important starting point in the region, and hopefully, from there, it will spread to the likes of Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and further up north. Would it also signal the wane of BlackBerry in the select South East Asia markets that it has held on strong all this while?

$150 Off Moto X Deal Goes Live Today, Again

$150 Off Moto X Deal Goes Live Today, Again

Motorola had previously announced that it would offer a deal on Cyber Monday in which it would shave off $150 of the price of the unlocked Moto X smartphone, even the developer editions. When Cyber Monday came, Motorola’s website couldn’t cope up with the surge in traffic which led to the servers crashing down. The company then apologized for the fiasco and said that it would offer the deal again, first on December 4th and again on December 9th. The deal goes lives once again today, and given how it sold out within eight minutes the last time around, you might want to be the first in the virtual line if you have any intention of picking up an unlocked Moto X for a steal.

The deal goes live at 12 p.m. EST, and will be available as long as stock lasts. The way this works is that Motorola is giving out promotional codes through the deal’s website. If you’re able to get your hands on a promo code, you will have one week to order a Moto X, the code is crucial to getting $150 off the price. That’s just about it. Those who want to get Motorola accessories for a 30 percent discount can use the “THANKS” promo code at checkout. As they say, the early bird gets the worm!

iPhone 5S Supply Has Caught Up With Demand [Analyst]

iPhone 5S Supply Has Caught Up With Demand [Analyst]

It has roughly been three months since Apple launched its new smartphones, the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c. Whereas it is widely believed that the latter hasn’t been selling as well as originally anticipated, there’s no denying the fact that the iPhone 5s has proved to be a hit. With intense demand comes a demand supply gap. Recently Apple has improved shipping times of the smartphone, and now according to Gene Munster, an analyst at Piper Jaffray, Apple Retail Stores in U.S. appear to have the iPhone 5s in stock.

Munster surveyed 60 Apple Retail Stores in the U.S. and found that all of them had the device in store, which equals to 100 percent availability. Just a fortnight ago, the same survey revealed that only 24 percent of the stores had the smartphone in stock. In the start of October, this figure was down to just 8 percent. Improving supply will only serve Apple’s interests. The company has managed to get supply to its stores ahead of the lucrative Christmas shopping season. More stores carrying the devices means that customers will have no difficulties in picking up the smartphone of their choice, sales are expected to surge around the holiday shopping season. Just last week Apple improved the iPhone 5s shipping times from its online store to just 1-3 business days.

Nubia Z5S And Z5S Mini Handsets Achieve Pre-Order Record In China

Nubia Z5S And Z5S Mini Handsets Achieve Pre Order Record In ChinaChina’s ZTE, which is a company that has been in the spotlight in recent years for its foray into the world of smartphones, has recently made it big with the pre-orders of its new Nubia Z5S as well as Nubia Z5S mini devices, hitting the 2.5 million mark. To make matters all the more impressive, these figures happened to hail from not many, but just one particular e-commerce outlet, which is JD aka 360Buy. This would mean that the cumulative sales of the Nubia Z5S and Nubia Z5S mini which go for $330 and $250, respectively, have already shot past its previous record holder, which would be the Xiaomi.

ZTE claims that this kind of market response can be attributed to the inclusion of a new camera that sports Optical Image Stabilization, apart from the company actually studying consumer feedback during the production and design process and making the necessary changes in order for it to jive close to what customers want. I would like to think that superior hardware that remains up to date and even forward looking also play an important role in the early success of both handsets, what with Full HD IGZO displays thrown into the mix. What do you think? [Press Release]

AT&T Teams Up With Rogers To Offer 4G LTE Roaming In Canada

AT&T Teams Up With Rogers To Offer 4G LTE Roaming In Canada

AT&T today earned some serious bragging rights, it has teamed up with Rogers of Canada to become the first major U.S. carrier to offer international 4G LTE data roaming. AT&T subscribers that find themselves in Canada will now be able to enjoy data roaming on 4G LTE speeds. Data will obviously run through Rogers’ LTE network in the country, which AT&T describers as being the fastest in Canada. The company claims that Rogers LTE network reaches almost 70 percent of all Canadians and that it continues to expand.

Subscribers won’t have to upgrade to another smartphone, AT&T says that its existing LTE compatible smartphones will be able to take advantage of this new service. However, there will be a price to pay for international data roaming at 4G LTE speeds. 120MB for $30 per month, 300MB for $60 per month and 800MB for $120 per month. Unless you plan on streaming video and music or downloading large files, these data packages should last long enough. However they won’t last long if you do data intensive tasks, which would result in you running up quite a tab. The best option would obviously be to get a SIM from a local carrier whenever you’re visiting Canada, but if 4G LTE is absolutely necessary, then AT&T is the way to go.

China Mobile iPhone Pre-orders Reportedly Going Live This Thursday

China Mobile iPhone Pre orders Reportedly Going Live This Thursday

The excruciating wait for millions of China Mobile subscribers might finally end this Thursday, if the latest report from The Wall Street Journal is to be believed. It spotted an advertisement on the carrier’s website revealing that pre-orders for the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c will be accepted from Thursday, December 12th. Previously, the publication also reported that both China Mobile and Apple had finally signed the iPhone deal, however a spokesperson for the carrier quickly rubbished the report and said that while negotiations were ongoing, no deal had been reached as yet.

Even though a China Mobile spokeswoman declined to comment on the ad that went up on the website, the publication was told by a China Mobile customer representative that pre-orders for the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c will indeed begin on December 12th, ahead of the launch of China Mobile’s commercial 4G service on December 18th. The representative is also quoted as saying that the carrier is currently working on a pricing plan for the new iPhones and it hasn’t notified the customers representatives as yet about the price China Mobile intends to charge for Apple’s new smartphones. The ad also indicates that both new iPhones won’t be the only smartphones to support China Mobile’s 4G LTE network, the carrier is also offering TD-LTE compatible smartphones from Samsung and Sony.

Huawei Glory 4 Or Honor 4 Could Be Introduced Next Week

Huawei Glory 4 Or Honor 4 Could Be Introduced Next WeekHuawei, the OEM from China has recently sent out an invitation for an event that will take place this coming December 16th, and when you take into consideration that the word “Honor” has already been printed on the invite itself, one would be hard pressed to think of anything else other than the fact that this would be the event where the Huawei Honor 4 is launched. Just in case you were wondering, the Huawei Honor 4 is also known as the Huawei Glory 4 in other markets. Regardless, a rose by any other name would smell just as sweet, and the Honor 4/Glory 4 will feature MediaTek’s octa-core MT65492 processor.

This celebrated processor claims to run all 8 cores simultaneously, which will be different from Samsung’s octa-core Exynos 5 chip, where the latter relies on big.LITTLE architecture which would allow a group of four cores to run at any one time. Rumored hardware specifications of the Huawei Honor 4 include a 5.5″ display at 720 x 1280 resolution, 2GB RAM, 32GB of internal memory, a 13MP shooter at the back and a 5MP front facing camera, with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean right out of the box. Now, to wait for the really serious stuff that all of us have been looking out for – pricing and availability details which will hopefully be revealed on December 16th as well.

Forbes: Windows Phone Could Overtake iOS In Due Time

Forbes: Windows Phone Could Overtake iOS In Due TimeI guess if there is one thing that corporations and companies should take note of, it would be this – one should never, ever, rest on one’s laurels. After all, you can never quite tell just when your company might fall behind the competitor so far that it would be nigh impossible to catch up with the rest of the pack. We have seen how the mighty have fallen in the past, and hence, having a slight sense of paranoia is not necessarily a bad thing. When it comes to the mobile operating system arena, it seems as though iOS and Android would continue to occupy top spots for years to come, but Forbes has a less optimistic outlook for iOS, touting that Windows Phone could eventually surpass the iOS market share in as little as 3 years’ time.

Sounds impossible? Forbes’ Mark Fidelman claims that the entire range of Windows Phone 8 mobile devices might just overtake the number of iOS devices in a matter of three years. The reason behind this projection is the fact that Windows Phone happens to be the fastest growing mobile platform, which happens more in emerging markets than anywhere else, while seeing a 48% year-over-year gain in the Europe/Middle East/Africa (EMEA) region; with Nokia enjoying a 366% year-over-year gain in sales in the US. Of course, when you scrutinize the statistics further, they tell a different story. For instance, hitting 5% market share from 3.5% might have a higher percentage increase, but it does not amount to much in terms of actual sales. Will Microsoft’s “One Microsoft” strategy also pan out to be a winner eventually? Only time will tell.
