Apple iBeacon Deployed To 254 Stores To Help Guide Shoppers

Those who have ventured into an Apple Store know how challenging it can be to navigate through as there are usually a ton of products on several tables available at the entrance, making the process of buying a new Lightning charging cable difficult to carry out on your own. You could actually talk to an Apple Store employee, but Apple knows how much we all hate any form of human interaction, so they are implementing a new service that will help guide shoppers through their store.  (more…)

Free, Ad-Supported Spotify For Mobile Rumored To Launch Next Week

Free, Ad Supported Spotify For Mobile Rumored To Launch Next WeekSpotify is probably one of the more popular music streaming services at the moment, and given that they have paid out $1 billion in royalties to date, that would certainly seem to be the case. Well the good news for mobile users is that if you wanted to enjoy Spotify on your phone for free, The Wall Street Journal is reporting that a free version of Spotify will soon be headed onto mobile devices. At the moment Spotify can be streamed for free on desktop computers, with the catch being that there will be ads in between songs. For mobile users, there is a streaming option too although they will require to pay a monthly subscription fee of $9.99.

Assuming this is true, the WSJ reports that the mobile version of Spotify is expected to provide a more personalized experience, sort of like Pandora or iTunes Radio which will try to find songs that you might like. We can only assume that this also means that the free version will come with ads, and that there could be some form of limitation, such as the number of times you can skip a song and so on. The report also claims that Spotify has managed to secure deals with the major record labels like Sony, Universal and Warner, and it could be announced as soon as next week.

Samsung Could Be Looking To Bring Android 4.4 KitKat To Older Devices

Samsung Could Be Looking To Bring Android 4.4 KitKat To Older DevicesWhile the Android 4.4 KitKat update has been designed to support older and lower specced devices, such as those running with 512MB of RAM, it’s odd that Google has decided to not support devices like the Galaxy Nexus, and surprisingly Samsung has decided to try and support older and lower-end devices, like the Galaxy S4 mini, Galaxy S3 mini, Galaxy S Advance, Galaxy Ace 3, Galaxy Core, Galaxy Fame, Galaxy Ace 2, and the Galaxy Fresh. Of course this is by no means a guarantee that they will get the update, but at least Samsung is looking into providing support for it, so we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more info.

It wasn’t too long ago that a memo leaked which showed that higher-end devices like the Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S3, and the Galaxy Note 2 would receive the Android 4.4 KitKat update. In any case no word when the update will roll out for the mid-ranged devices, if Samsung decides to support it, but we suppose it’s still good news nonetheless, although we might suggest against getting your hopes up just yet. In the meantime who else is pleased by this news?

iPhone 5s Shipping Times Improve To 1-3 Days

iPhone 5s Shipping Times Improve To 1 3 DaysWe had heard that due to issues with the Touch ID sensor, Apple would be faced with supply constraints with the iPhone 5s. However due to Apple reportedly shifting production efforts from the iPhone 5c to the iPhone 5s, shipping times have improved from 1-2 weeks, to 3-5 days, and now according to the listing on Apple’s online store, shipping times have greatly improved to the point where customers can expect it to ship in 1-3 days. What this means is that if you were thinking about getting an iPhone 5s for yourself or for a friend or family as a Christmas gift, the phone looks like it should arrive on time.

However this does not apply to the SIM-free version of the iPhone 5s which states that customers can expect the device to ship in 1-2 weeks’ time. In any case it looks like Apple’s supply might have stabilized already, as all colors, even the ever-so-popular gold finish, have similar shipping estimate. With that being said, we expect that it shouldn’t be much longer when we can expect shipping times to be in the next 24 hours. So, who else is planning on getting their hands on an iPhone 5s in time for the Christmas holidays?

MiniShock Are Detailed DualShock 2 Controller Smartphone Straps

MiniShock Are Detailed DualShock 2 Controller Smartphone StrapsAnyone who has been to Japan, or have been exposed to all things Japanese, would know that small and cute do seem to be a huge part of their culture. Anything cute, goes. While the world has already moved forward in terms of video games from the PS3 with its DualShock 3 controllers to the hot selling Sony PS4, it seems that the aged Sony PlayStation 2 still has a place in their hearts. The controller for the Sony PS2, known as the DualShock 2, has just been given the miniaturized treatment, where it has been turned into the MiniShock, which will function as a smartphone strap.

Phone charms and straps are also another popular Japanese export that have taken parts of the world by storm, and the MiniShock is truly a work of art. You will need to see it to believe it for yourself, as the 13-year-old controller has been immortalized in a tiny version of itself, with a level of detail that many would just whistle at in awe. It measures a mere 30mm in length, and will feature all details from the original DualShock 2 controller. You will be able to find the classic PlayStation logo, the relevant arrows that have been engraved within the four D-pad points, the analogue switch, and even the line where the two halves of the controller’s outer casing end up meeting is there. Heck, you will also find the faux analogue on/off LED reproduced!

HTC Offering HTC One For $25 Monthly

HTC Offering HTC One For $25 MonthlyThe folks over at HTC have not been doing too well in recent times, never mind that their HTC One has proven itself to be quite the performing smartphone in terms of hardware and usability. This is rather surprising actually, especially when you consider how HTC used to be in a position of strength just a few years ago, only to see its market share decline by a sizeable amount (and subsequently, affect its earnings with each passing quarter, too). It does seem to be quite an uphill battle for the company now, and it seems that HTC will be making their flagship HTC One available for no money down, although you will be tethered to an installment plan.

Having revealed a new page that trumpets this particular offer, it works pretty much in the same manner as picking up the handset from a carrier for free. You will need to submit yourself to a credit check beforehand though, and assuming everything turns out to be fine and dandy, you can easily pocket HTC’s flagship smartphone from as low as $25 each month. Those who are eligible will be able to choose from a 32GB HTC One with no-interest monthly payments of $25, where it will run the course of two years. Bear in mind that this offer applies only to those living in the US, and for the GSM version of the HTC One – automatically disqualifying Sprint and Verizon customers.

Twitter Has New Targeted Advertising Which Learns From Your Browsing History

Twitter Has New Targeted Advertising Which Learns From Your Browsing History“You are what you browse” might just be Twitter’s new mantra, as the micro blogging and social media platform is looking for a new way to deliver ads which are relevant and not be a pest to your mobile experience. Basically, after going through a few months of testing, Twitter has announced the global availability of tailored audiences, which happens to be a spanking new method for advertisers to define your very own groups of existing and potential customers, all the while being able to hook up with them on Twitter using relevant messages that will not be treated with contempt, like spam.

This is made possible through your browsing history. For instance, a hotel brand intends to advertise a promotion on Twitter, and would only want to target their ads at those who have already dropped by their website. This hotel brand could then share with Twitter browser-related information (browser cookie ID) via an ads partner, where such information will be matched to Twitter accounts so that a Promoted Tweet with the relevant travel deal will show up. Do you think that such targeted ads would still be tastefully received, or will it be seen as an annoyance of sorts in the long run? Only time will be able to tell. [Press Release]

Verizon 4G LTE Network Connectivity Improved In Selected Areas

Verizon 4G LTE Network Connectivity Improved In Selected Areas When you choose a mobile carrier, one of the main aspects of that mobile carrier which you would definitely look out for would be the area of coverage. Well, we are pleased to say that as Verizon celebrates the third birthday of its 4G LTE network, and in order to commemorate the occasion, it has given the 4G LTE service a boost via Advanced Wireless Spectrum airwaves. Revealing this detail to GigaOM, Verizon claimed to have improved its LTE network in selected markets throughout the country, relying on the AWS spectrum which it picked up from a hash of cable companies last year so that it can boost the peak speeds as well as capacity of its network.

Verizon Chief Network Officer Nicola Palmer touted that many major cities that dot the east of the Mississippi River, including New York, Chicago, Atlanta and Boston, as well as cities in the western part of the country, such as San Francisco and Los Angeles, would have enjoyed the boost in 4G LTE speeds. For those of you out there who happen to live in the mentioned areas, did you notice anything different about it, or has things remained pretty much the same? The iPhone 5s and 5c, Samsung Galaxy S4 and the Motorola Droid Mini, Ultra and Maxx are some of the devices which are capable of taking advantage of this AWS network.
