Nokia Lumia 1320 Spotted At The FCC

Nokia Lumia 1320 Spotted At The FCCBack in October, the Nokia Lumia 1320 was announced. The handset is another 6” smartphone by Nokia but unlike its sibling, the Lumia 1520, the Lumia 1320 will be slightly lower specced, meaning that it will be a tad more affordable for those who don’t really see the need for the latest or greatest hardware in their phones. The handset has recently made its way through the FCC but based on what we can see, the handset will feature the 3, 7, and 20 LTE bands which aren’t used in the USA, and will also lack AWS support, indicating that it will most likely be headed to Europe or international markets, rather than the US for now.

Based on Nokia’s announcement at that time, the Lumia 1320 is expected to head to countries such as China, Vietnam, India, and Europe, and is expected to cost around $339 before local taxes. For those who might have forgotten about the Lumia 1320, the handset will feature a 6” 720p HD (instead of 1080p Full HD) dispay, and will be powered by a dual-core processor (rather than a quad-core found on the Lumia 1520). It will also pack a 5MP rear-facing camera and will come with  8GB of onboard storage that can be expanded via microSD.

Android 4.3 Roll Out For International Galaxy S3 Resumes

Android 4.3 Roll Out For International Galaxy S3 Resumes

About a month back the much awaited Android 4.3 update for Galaxy S3 was leaked online. Build XXUGMMJ9 was officially released a couple of days after it leaked, however Samsung ended up having to pause the roll out because users who had updated reported various issues. It seemed that Samsung had rushed the update, so then the roll out was halted and users’ patience was tested. Android 4.3 for international Galaxy S3 has started rolling out today, this time the build is XXUGMK6 and it won’t cause issues that its predecessor did.

Stock international variants of the Galaxy S3, GT-I9300, should receive the update over-the-air in stages, so it might take some time before the update becomes available in your region. The update brings support for Galaxy Gear, reduces lag, improves battery life and also features some camera enhancements. Despite the fact that the previous built featured Samsung Knox enterprise security suite, XXUGMK6 doesn’t seem to come with the suite. While users complained of Wi-Fi issues, poor multitasking, battery drain, random freezing and more when they updated their Galaxy S3 to the previous build, so far those who have installed the latest Android 4.3 update seem to be pretty happy with it. If you were scarred last time, its pretty safe to tap that update now.

Galaxy Nexus CyanogenMod 11 Android 4.4 KitKat Stable Unofficial ROM Released

Nearly two years ago, Google launched the Galaxy Nexus smartphone. Developed in collaboration with Samsung, it was the first smartphone to run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Since then multiple Nexus smartphones have come and gone, and so have major Android OS updates. When Google unveiled Android 4.4 KitKat recently, Galaxy Nexus users expected that the company will support their device. Instead, Google announced that it would not release an official KitKat update for the Galaxy Nexus. Dejected owners then turned towards third-party developed ROMs, but there weren’t any stable ROMs available. If you have been waiting for one yourself, the wait if now over. A stable custom Galaxy Nexus Android 4.4 ROM has been released.

Built from AOSP, the CyanogenMod 11 custom Android 4.4 KitKat ROM for Galaxy Nexus is stable and all features are working. However, the ROMs status is still in beta because its missing some common CyanogenMod features, which are different from core Android OS features. Apart from a screenshot taking glitch, everything seems to be working. It goes without saying that flashing custom ROMs comes with its fair share of risks, so before you download the Galaxy Nexus CyanogenMod 11 Android 4.4 custom ROM, be sure that you know what you’re doing. The ROM and install instructions are available at XDA forums.

Foursquare v7.0 For iOS Gets A Complete Revamp

Foursquare v7.0 For iOS Gets A Complete Revamp

If you’re one of those people who like “checking-in” to every location they go to, then you probably are a Foursquare user. The service has been around for quite some time now, and it contributed a lot to the trend of checking-in to places. Back when Apple released iOS 7 in September, Foursquare released an updated app so that its visuals could better compliment those of Apple’s newest mobile OS update. Now, Foursquare version 7.0 has been released for iOS 7, the app has been given a complete revamp.

The app is claimed to be faster, smarter apart from the fact that it has a whole new look. Foursquare for iOS will now tell “what you need to know” whenever a user arrives somewhere they haven’t been before. For example if a user enters a restaurant for the first time, Foursquare will automatically push a notification about the best thing to order or a special that’s being offered, even if the app hasn’t even been launched. The app will also show more of what’s nearby. Whenever the app is launched, it will “shuffle the deck” to show tips and specials near the user’s location, users can hit up the feed to see what their friends are up to. Revamped Foursquare for iOS 7 is live now and available as a free download from the App Store.

Known as the new Mobile Share Value Plans, these will be available as of December 6th, which is just one day away, and will also remain open to users who intend to pick up a handset at an unsubsidized price point, or one who wants to bring a compatible phone to the network, or even one who has already honored and completed their contract, or to take part in AT&T’s Next early upgrade plan.

ASUS PadFone Mini To Launch In Taiwan Next Week

ASUS PadFone Mini To Launch In Taiwan Next WeekIt was some time in September this year that we brought you news that ASUS has already confirmed the ASUS PadFone Mini, in addition to the MeMOFone HD5. Well, waiting can get pretty long and boring at times, so much so that it is easy to lose faith in a particular product announcement afterwards. We are pleased as punch to inform you that the ASUS PadFone Mini is all set for a proper launch in Taiwan next Wednesday, as invitations have already been sent out. It does seem that the smaller docking station too, is on track to be released, so we cannot wait until next Wednesday to check out the ASUS PadFone Mini in all of its glory.

Basically, the ASUS PadFone Mini, according to a listing which was found in the Global Certification Forum (GSF), will arrive with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean in tow, in addition to a screen resolution of 960 x 540 pixels, and a quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor to keep this rumored 7″ tablet going. Of course, there is no telling what the final size would be until next Wednesday, but one thing’s for sure – the GCF’s listing point to just 3G radios, so be prepared to make do without 4G connectivity if you decide to pick this puppy up.

Samsung Might Be Working On A Windows Phone 8 Flagship

Samsung Might Be Working On A Windows Phone 8 Flagship

One might forgive an average joe for equating Samsung exclusively with Android smartphone. The Korean company makes some of the most popular Android devices on the market, while on the one hand its arsenal is full of Android powered smartphones, Samsung hasn’t made many Windows Phone 8 powered devices. It launched a WP8 flagship back in late 2012, the Ativ S, and since then has only released two other similar devices, the Ativ Odyssey and the Ativ Neo S. If latest rumors are to be believed, the company might launch a Windows Phone 8 flagship smartphone in 2014.

It reportedly touts the model number SM-W750V, there aren’t too many details available about the expectation specifications of this device, however it is believed to have a 5 inch display. Seeing as how Windows Phone 8 GDR3 update brought support for quadcore processors and full 1080p HD displays, one can expect both of them to be included in the company’s Windows Phone 8 flagship smartphone. Given the fact that the Ativ S was essentially a WP variant of the Galaxy S3, it can be argued that perhaps the SM-W750V might be a Windows Phone 8 variant of the upcoming Galaxy S5. The Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone is expected to have a metal body, a 64-bit Exynos Processor, a 20 megapixel camera with optical image stabilization and an eye scanner.

Android 4.4.1 Release Will Fix Nexus 5 Camera Issues

Android 4.4.1 Release Will Fix Nexus 5 Camera Issues

We reported recently that Google might be releasing Android 4.4.1 KitKat soon, and it appears that the update is going to be rolled out over the next few days. This was confirmed today by David Burke, director of engineering for Android at Google to The Verge. He says that the update is going to bring a number of changes for the camera on Nexus 5, while the camera on Google’s latest smartphone doesn’t have any major issues, several quirks have irked users. It is with this update that the quirks will finally be taken care of.

Burke says that the team made shutter time longer on the Nexus 5 camera app to reduce the gain even longer, this was done to produce high-quality images. However, this resulted into slow image capturing speeds, which irked users. This is going to be fixed with Android 4.4.1. Moreover, the camera app will launch a second faster than before, a major speed improvement. A progress indicator will be added to HDR+ mode to make it easier for users to manage the High-Dynamic Range mode. The Nexus 5 face unlocked bug will also be fixed through this update, facial recognition often crashed the app which resulted in the device being restarted. Photo quality is going to be increased after the update too, as evident by the sample image posted above.
