AT&T And T Mobile Duke It Out On Twitter Over A Single Customer

Customers are undoubtedly important for every business, and it has been said that there are times when losing a customer actually costs more than signing on a new one, so it is unsurprising that AT&T and T-Mobile have recently taken to Twitter where both companies have fought rather vigorously over a single customer. The customer in question, Jay Rooney, was a little upset that AT&T charged him extra for overseas data usage, unlike T-Mobile, and questioned his decision to stay with the carrier. T-Mobile responded to Rooney on Twitter, and invited him over to T-Mobile’s network.

AT&T was obviously not going to take this lying down and replied by saying that T-Mobile is a “dark” and “scary” carrier. The exchanges went back and forth and T-Mobile’s CEO, John Legere, stepped in personally which pretty much sealed the deal for Rooney, who stated on his Twitter that he would be heading to a T-Mobile store to inquire about possibly switching carriers. This whole back and forth between AT&T and T-Mobile is pretty surprising, especially given that it was a couple of years ago when both companies were on the cusp of merging and had nothing but nice things to say about each other and their potential partnership.

Redbox Instant On iPhone Now Supports AirPlay Streaming

Redbox Instant On iPhone Now Supports AirPlay StreamingRedbox Instant was launched by Redbox earlier this year with Verizon, where it is being touted to be a competitor to another video streaming solution from Netflix. Well, what is the whole point of having a particular piece of software or app if it were not to receive updates along the way to be better and more efficient? Good to know that Redbox has already introduced a new update for the iPhone app, where this time around, one will be able to enjoy AirPlay streaming support. Of course, there will still be limitations, as AirPlay would play nice only for video streaming, but it will be unable to support anything that has already been downloaded.

This would be a blow to those who want to see Redbox as an alternative for its on-demand and subscription libraries. Another area of concern would be, the app itself would stop running in the event where there are incoming texts and notifications, or should one happen to run a different app apart from Redbox. According to Redbox Instant, this latest update will also be able to handle unnamed bugs, all the while improving the recommendations engine so that it can be a whole lot more accurate concerning the kinds of movies which will be suggested to members.

MLB releases Franchise MVP for Android, lets you live your baseball fantasies

The World Series is over, and it’s a long three months before Spring Training begins. What’s a baseball fan to do until then? Well, if you’re an Android user, you could pick up Franchise MVP, a new game released by none other than Major League Baseball. MLB’s no stranger to apps, of course, with its popular At Bat programs for iOS and Android, but mobile gaming is relatively new territory. Franchise MVP isn’t like MLB 2K13 though; instead of creating a team, you follow an individual player through his career in the majors. You can play any position on the field and for any MLB team, building skills like batting, pitching and fielding along the way and making key in-field decisions. The game is free to download, but if you want to hurry things along, you can choose to spend real money for in-game currency. So if your favorite team missed out on taking home the Commissioner’s Trophy this year, you can at least console yourself by using Franchise MVP to become the baseball player of your dreams.

Galaxy Gear Update Arrives For Samsung Galaxy S4 Owners

Galaxy Gear Update Arrives For Samsung Galaxy S4 OwnersAh, there is nothing quite like a software update being made available for your beloved piece of hardware, and with Samsung’s current flagship, the Galaxy S4, we do know that different variants of it across other mobile carriers have already received the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update in the past. The thing is, AT&T’s own experience has not exactly been the smoothest one among the rest, but things do seem to have settled down somewhat now. For instance, AT&T did announce that their latest software update will bring the software build to JSS15J.I337UCUEMK2 in addition to Samsung Galaxy Gear compatibility, the ability to drag and drop so that you can uninstall or disable apps in a jiffy, better call reliability and of course, the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update.

The entire update would weigh in at a rather hefty 727MB, so you might want to make sure that your smartphone remains tethered to a fast Wi-Fi connection with its battery fully charged so that nothing untoward will happen when it is installing the update halfway and the battery gives up the good fight. Other AT&T customers who have received the Galaxy Gear compatibility updates to date include those who own the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Samsung Galaxy Mega. [Press Release]

Pantech Has Plans For Smartphone With Fingerprint Recognition Sensor

Pantech Has Plans For Smartphone With Fingerprint Recognition SensorPantech, a player in the smartphone market that hails from South Korea, has recently gotten off to a good start for their Pantech Vega Secret in its home country, that is, South Korea. What other kinds of goodies does Pantech have in store for us then? Well, the company is said to be working on rolling out a new high end Android-powered smartphone which will feature a 5” display, and to make things spicier in the highly competitive niche market, there will also be a rumored fingerprint sensor located at the back of the handset.

ET News reports that this new Pantech device will most likely be available in December, but other than that, there are not too many details which surround it, so certain assumptions will need to be made. For instance, will the 5” display be one that has Full HD capability? Regardless, the fingerprint recognition sensor seems to be one feature that newer smartphones do not want to miss out on, being a bandwagon that is being led by the iPhone 5s from Apple. Just how much money are you willing to fork out for a new high end smartphone, and do you think that the fingerprint recognition sensor will be commonplace, or is it a feature that only some will find useful?

AT&T’s Galaxy S 4 starts receiving Android 4.3 (again), Galaxy Gear gets compatibility update

Earlier this month, AT&T began rolling out Android 4.3 to its variant of the Galaxy S 4, only to have it pulled in order to focus on “potential improvements.” Here’s the good news: the Rethink Possible carrier today started the process of, once again, bringing the Jelly Bean updates to Samsung’s flagship smartphone. As a refresher, Android 4.3 brings a lot of improvements and enhancements that make the overall experience an even more pleasant one — some of which include OpenGL ES 3.0 support, Bluetooth Smart technology and enriched notification access. What’s more, AT&T’s also releasing an update for the Galaxy Gear that makes it compatible with the GS4, which is great news for folks on the network who own both Samsung devices. Let us know in the comments how these updates are working out for you thus far — and here’s hoping this one is here to stay.

CyanogenMod Installer pulled from Google Play, lives on via sideloading

The CyanogenMod team made switching from your phone’s original Android setup to its own flavor of the OS much easier with paired mobile and desktop installer apps, but now there’s one extra step. In a blog post, CyanogenMod states the Google Play Support team contacted it and claims the installer app is in violation of their TOS. This, despite CyanogenMod’s insistence that the app’s only purpose is to enable ADB on the device, then guide users through connecting it to the desktop app. Despite “hundreds of thousands” of installs for its alternative Android experience, the mobile app is still usable via sideloading, and its installation guide walks users through the necessary steps. Going forward, the CyanogenMod team is submitting its app to Samsung and Amazon’s alternative app stores, but interested Android users can download it right now.

CyanogenMod Installer Pulled From Google Play

CyanogenMod Installer Pulled From Google PlayWe know that when it comes to installing custom ROMs on your Android device is not easy, especially if you’re new to all of this, which is why the CyanogenMod Installer was such a great idea, especially when it was launched on the Google Play store for everyone to download! Unfortunately it seems that the app might have violated some terms and has since been voluntarily removed from Google Play. According to the official CyanogenMod blog, this involved one particular function within the app which was related to sideloading apps which could potentially void warranties of devices.

Based on the feedback given from the Google Play team, they agreed that while the app was harmless and did not actually violate their Terms of Service (it did violate developer terms), it still “encourages users to void their warranty” and would not be allowed to remain in the store. It is unclear if the Cyanogen Inc. will find a way around this issue, but for now if you want to get your hands on the installer, they have revealed that they will be submitting their app to both the Amazon and Samsung stores.
