Samsung Galaxy S5 Specifications Rumored Once Again

Samsung Galaxy S5 Specifications Rumored Once Again

As 2014 approaches with each passing day, rumors about the Samsung Galaxy S5 continue to circulate. A couple of months back it was first rumored that Samsung is going to release the next generation Galaxy S flagship earlier than originally anticipated because the Galaxy S4 has not met the company’s internal sales expectations. While the Korean giant hasn’t said anything to confirm those rumors, we’ve started to hear more about the Galaxy S5. Specifications of the Samsung Galaxy S5 have been rumored once again today, apparently two variants of the device will be released which will be fashioned from different materials.

The premium Galaxy S5 variant is said to have a metal casing as well as a flexible AMOLED touchscreen display, possibly around five inches, whereas the “mass market” variant is said to be fashioned out of plastic and tout a non-flexible AMOLED display, also around five inches. Its likely that the “flexible” display mentioned in the reports coming out of Korean will be similar to one on Samsung Galaxy Round, and not like the one of LG’s self-healing G Flex smartphone. The Galaxy S5 is said to have a 64-bit Exynos processor, 16 megapixel camera possibly with optical image stabilization, 3GB RAM as well as a massive 4,000mAh battery. Android 4.4 KitKat might be preinstalled. The report claims that Samsung will produce around 800,000 to 1 million units of the Galaxy S5 in January and will increase production to 6 million units in February 2014. If needed, production will be increased to 8-10 million units once the smartphone is actually released in March, 2014. Since these are unconfirmed reports after all, a grain of salt is advised.

YouTube app teardown hints at ad-free Music Pass service with offline playback

    YouTube logo

Rumors of a YouTube-based music service just got some credibility thanks to an Android Police teardown of the Android app’s most recent code. The site has found references to a Music Pass that would let subscribers listen to “millions of songs” ad-free, even with the app running in the background. Customers could also pin content to the device for offline listening, although it would expire if the device stayed offline for too long. There’s no guarantee that Google will launch the Music Pass soon (if at all), but don’t be surprised if the YouTube app becomes your personal jukebox in the near future.

T-Mobile Black Friday 2013 Deal: $0 Down For iPhone 5s And iPhone 5c [Rumor]

T Mobile Black Friday 2013 Deal: $0 Down For iPhone 5s And iPhone 5c [Rumor]

As Thanksgiving and Black Friday approach, we have started hearing more and more about the Black Friday 2013 deals we can expect from retailers, carriers and just about anyone trying to cash in on the hype. This is the first we’re hearing of a T-Mobile Black Friday 2013 deal, according to a screenshot received by the folks at T-Mobile, for three days Magenta is going to offer both the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c for $0 down on its equipment installment plan or EIP.

As previously mentioned, this offer is said to last three days, between November 29th to December 1st. If customers want to purchase the iPhone 5s from T-Mobile right now on EIP they have to put $149 down and $49 down for the iPhone 5c. So if this Black Friday 2013 deal turns out to be true, that would mean that T-Mobile’s offering a flat $149 and $49 discount on the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c respectively. The report claims that a select number of T-Mobile retail stores will start accepting orders on these discounted prices from Thursday evening. The carrier is said to have instructed retail store stall to place the new price cards in stores prior to the opening on November 29th. The screenshot also reveals that iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c on EIP will cost $49.99 or $9.99 on Cyber Monday, respectively. It is not known at this time if the change in upfront cost is going to increase the monthly installments, T-Mobile should clarify that if and when it makes this Black Friday 2013 deal official.

Titanium Backup Now Supports Android 4.4 ART Runtime

Titanium Backup Now Supports Android 4.4 ART Runtime

If you’re accustomed to flashing custom firmware and ROMs, you would have probably heard about the Titanium Backup application for Android devices. Its a life saver if you’re into tinkering with the firmware on your device. Basically the app eliminates the need to reinstall your apps and reconfigure settings once a custom ROM or firmware has been flashed, because when you do flash them, the device is wiped and all data is deleted. The Titanium Backup app has now been updated to support the ART runtime introduced with Android 4.4 KitKat.

Basically the ART runtime is an entirely new way for Android devices to run apps. The aim here is to make apps much more efficient and fast while cutting down on CPU usage. The updated app now has support for both ART and Dalvik, the latter being the old way of running apps on an Android device. Given that ART is completely different from Dalvik, developers have to tweak their apps so that they’re compatible with ART. As Android 4.4 KitKat slowly but surely rolls out to millions of Android enthusiasts around the world, its the perfect time to release an updated Titanium Backup application, so that when they start tinkering with KitKat, at least they’ll know that their data is safely backed up. iPhones Account For 76% Of All Smartphone Sales In Japan This October

iPhones Account For 76% Of All Smartphone Sales In Japan This October

It was recently reported that Japan is now Apple’s fastest growing market. The Land of the Rising Sun is where Apple’s operating profit grew in the last fiscal year, it is also the market from where Apple is getting its biggest profit margins from. Recent statistics from WSJ reveal that Apple commands 37 percent and 50 percent of the smartphone and tablet market in Japan, respectively. Figures released by Kantar World Panel reiterate Apple’s dominance in Japan as 76 percent of all smartphones sold in Japan this October were accounted for by the iPhone 5c and the iPhone 5c.

Apple’s increase in market share with the new iPhones can also be attributed to the fact that NTT DoCoMo, the country’s largest mobile operator, is now carrying both new iPhones. 61 percent of the sales that Apple amassed in October were generated by NTT DoCoMo. During the past fiscal year, Apple’s sales in Japan have climbed almost 30 percent and its margins are 15 percent higher in the country than anywhere else in the world. It goes without saying that Japan is a very lucrative market for Apple right now, and figures like these keep coming in, customers in Japan will surely continue to put a lot of green on Apple’s balance sheets.

Now that selfie has officially become the word of 2013, we’re sure there are going to be a tidal wave of photos taken using our mobile device’s front-facing camera. Moto X With Wooden Backplate To Arrive During The Holiday Season

Moto X With Wooden Backplate To Arrive During The Holiday SeasonWhen Motorola first announced the Moto X, one of the coolest customizable options we saw was how customers could potentially choose a wooden backplate for the handset, which is definitely different and more unique from your typical color options. Unfortunately until today, no word on when the wooden backplate option will make its way into the Moto Maker site, but last we heard it was tipped for a Q4 2013 release. Well  the good news is that if you were looking forward to a wooden-backed Moto X, a tweet by reporter for Reuters has revealed that the wooden option will be coming in time for holiday shoppers.

The tweet also mentioned that this means that the option will be skipping Thanksgiving, but we suppose better late than never, right? Interestingly enough another color option was found on the Motorola website, thanks to the digging done by the folks at Droid-Life who discovered that a gold finish was a possibility as well. It is unclear if this will be a complete body color option, or if it will only be limited to button accents, but either way we’ll keep our eyes peeled. What do you guys think? Who else is looking forward to a Moto X handset with a wooden backplate?

The $299 Blu Life Pro is aimed at the selfie set with a 5-megapixel front cam

LIFE PRO by BLU. (PRNewsFoto/BLU Products)

When we first spotted the decently spec’d Blu Life series, it seemed like a nice Android handset option for folks on a budget. However, the times they have a-changed, and the former KIRF company’s latest device, the Blu Life Pro, is now looking decidedly less cheap. Spec-wise, it’s packing a 720P screen, quad-core 1.5GHz MediaTek CPU, Android 4.2, HSPA+ 3G, 1GB RAM, 16GB of memory and a 12-megapixel BSI camera with 1080p video. At $299, it’ll have to go up against plenty of similarly-priced and technologically superior rivals, but the one feature that distinguishes the Blu from the rest is its 5-megapixel, 1080p front-facing camera with a BSI sensor. Nevertheless, given the option between this and a much cheaper 720p phone like the spiffy Moto G, our vanity probably does know some bounds.

The Robot Girl iPhone Dock Is Creepy And Expensive

iPhone docks come in all shapes and sizes, but we reckon the Robot Girl iPhone dock probably takes the cake. Basically the Robot Girl iPhone dock is a 46” tall robot that has been shaped and designed to look like a robotic woman, and there are gaps and openings all over her body where LED lights are emitted and even pulsated whenever music is played. The head of the Robot Girl will even bop slightly when music is played and given her overall stance, it almost looks like she could be a model walking down a very futuristic runway.

The good news is that if you love robots and wouldn’t mind getting your hands on the Robot Girl, its creator Mark Ricci has put it up on sale on eBay where the starting bid is set at a whopping $6,500. There is a Creative D80 Wireless Bluetooth speaker embedded in the robot, so not only is this a dock for your iPhone, but will also act as a speaker. It does not mention if it charges your iPhone at the same time or which generation iPhone it works with, but presumably with its Bluetooth connectivity, it should play nicely with most devices that support Bluetooth. It’s a little creepy but cool at the same time, but would you want to have this in your living room?
