Sometimes the best way to find out about a new app is by your friends recommending it to you. Unlike you having to download it and try it for yourself, seeing how it is being used by your friends or have them describe it to you will probably clue you in better on how you might be able to use it on your own device.

In a recent Play Store update, it seems that Google will be doing just that by including a “People” section in the app. Basically what the section does is that it shows you the list of apps that your friends are sharing, thus giving you an idea of what sort of apps they are using and which apps they are recommending.

Much like how iOS’ Game Center can be used to discover new games by seeing what types of games your friends or contacts are playing, we guess the same can be achieved through the Play Store’s “People” section. The section does not cover only apps but pretty much anything that can be bought in the Play Store, which includes books, movies, music, and so on.

The “People” section will also show how your friends have rated their purchases so that you know whether or not the app/book/movie/album is worth your time and your money. So if you have not updated your Play Store app yet, be sure to do so and you can start browsing right away! So, who else is pleased by this update?

If you were thinking about getting your hands on a brand new Windows Phone handset, perhaps the recently announced Nokia Lumia 930 might be of interest to you. Given that the handset is essentially the international variant of the Nokia Lumia Icon, which is a smaller version of the Lumia 1520, safe to say that the Lumia 930 will be a pretty good buy.

Perhaps to tempt you even further, Nokia has revealed that the Lumia 930 will be bundled with a free wireless charging accessory. Previously, the wireless charging accessory was sold separately which meant that customers who weren’t particular taken by the feature could opt not to buy it.

However Nokia plans on helping push the use of wireless charging which is why they have decided to bundle the accessory together with the sale of the handset. The good news is that the Lumia 930 will have wireless charging built into the phone itself, meaning that you won’t have to purchase an additional charging plate and will just require a charging base.

The Nokia Lumia 930 is expected to go on sale later this June where it will be released in regions like Europe, Asia, and the Middle East where it is expected to retail for around $599 off-contract. So if you had your eye on a new phone, perhaps the Lumia 930 with its free wireless charger might be of interest to you.

One of the more iconic features of the iPhone and the iOS software would be its ability to “slide to unlock”. Apparently this was a feature that was thought up in order to prevent the phone from accidentally unlocking itself while in bag or a pocket which can happen when you use physical buttons.

However it seems that the feature was only created as an after-thought because according to Apple’s head of human-interface, Greg Christie, the company had opted for an always-on screen which could be ready to go at the touch of the screen, but apparently due to the amount of power that would require, they weren’t able to include that feature.

Christie was testifying at the Apple-Samsung trial where he was quoted as saying. “We couldn’t meet our power requirements if we had that active a state. We had to resort to a power button.” This eventually led to Apple going with the “slide to unlock” feature, which at the same would also solve the problem of issues like pocket dialing.

His recount of the history and the feature was to stress the importance of some of Apple’s patents and that they are valuable and are worth the damages that Apple is asking from Samsung. Christie states that the “slide to unlock” feature is important because it would be the first thing that a customer would see, whether it be at the store or at home after purchasing an iPhone.

Like we said, the feature has become somewhat iconic and is usually linked to Apple’s iOS devices, much like how the pattern unlock feature is usually thought of to be an Android feature.

According to a leaked photo the other day, it was revealed that Sprint could be close to announcing a new promotion that would mimic T-Mobile’s Uncarrier program where the carrier would pay off your early termination fee (ETF) with another carrier so that you will be able to sign up with them.

Now according to a recent press release by Sprint, it looks like that plan is now official. The details of the plan is pretty much similar to what we have seen in the leaked photo. Basically Sprint will allow you to trade-in your current device and get as much as $300 credit towards it, although we’re guessing this will vary depending on how old and what condition your phone is in.

Sprint will also be providing customers with a $350 Visa prepaid card that will cover your ETF with another carrier, or alternatively you could use it towards installment balance reimbursement. However the plan does require the customer to be in good standing and will have to wait anywhere between 10-12 weeks before they are able to receive the payment via the Visa prepaid card, so that’s something to take note of.
