Exploding iPhones as well as phone chargers are nothing new, and there has been alleged reports of people getting killed by it along the way. We always maintain that one should make use of authorized and original parts only, chargers included, even though you might save a fair bit of money by purchasing third party or knock-off chargers, as this particular Minnesota resident found out. Tim Tyrrell was shopping for a second charger for his iPhone, and settled on a $10 eBay offer that came with a couple of wall chargers and a car charger, instead of forking out $25 to $30 for an original from Apple. This knock-off plug exploded, resulting in Tyrrell experiencing a serious electrical burn that was the size of a quarter on his hand.

If there is one thing Samsung is known for it would be their AMOLED displays. They are typically very bright and vibrant, although some have criticized Samsung for its AMOLED displays as they do tend to be oversaturated, but then again some people do like that look and if Samsung’s success is anything to go by, many don’t seem to mind it at all.

There are certain security features that has the potential to turn away your average smartphone thief. Biometric security and features like Activation Lock are some of them, but the potential to remotely kill a smartphone would probably help deter smartphone theft even further, which is why it is not surprising that law enforcement officials are pushing for such a feature to be included in smartphones shipped and sold in the US.

Carriers have naturally resisted implementing such features because when a phone is stolen, customers will have no choice but to fork out a new one, or at least pay for a higher insurance coverage plan that will cover scenarios like phones being stolen. This is all revenue for carriers and by reducing smartphone theft, it would reduce the need for replacement phones and insurance as well. (more…)

Remember the other day we saw alleged schematics of the iPhone 6? Well we’re sure many are wondering how an iPhone might look like if those schematics are the real deal, so French website Nowhereelse.fr and designer Martin Hajek have thrown together a couple of concept renderings to give us a taste of what’s to come.

Based on the alleged schematics, it shows off a very thin iPhone. This is somewhat believable as Apple has in the past attempted to slim down every new version of the iPhone that they are putting out in the market. (more…)
