For a few years now we have been hearing rumors about Amazon working on a smartphone. It hasn’t materialized up till now, and the company hasn’t hinted any plans of entering the smartphone market. Earlier this week chatter from Asia based supply chain predicted that the Amazon smartphone will be released later this year. Building up on that, famed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo makes some predictions about the features and specifications of this much rumored device. Kuo is known of his often correction Apple predictions.

Chances are pretty good that you would have already made up your mind as to whether you would settle for the Samsung Galaxy S5 or not when it is finally made available to the masses. I am quite sure that a fair number of us are looking forward to the official availability of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5, where a little bit more patience ought to be able to do the trick. As for the sticker price tag that will accompany the Galaxy S5 when it arrives, that remains a question that needs an answer, and pronto! It seems that South Korean publication ZDNet did confirm on the Taiwanese launch price of the Samsung Galaxy S5 would stand at TWD22,800 (or €540 after conversion), which is €60 more affordable compared to its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S4 when it launched there last year.

China Mobile did report its first loss of annual profits in 14 years (which is a long time), being the world’s largest carrier in terms of subscribers, although they did mention that they have decided to invest heavily investing in its 4G network. So far, we do know that China Mobile has sold approximately 1.34 million LTE-enabled smartphones, where the majority of those were Apple’s iPhone. In fact, China Mobile also did make a similar order to Apple recently.

Back in 2011, Qik, the video streaming service, was acquired by Skype for a whopping $150 million (this admittedly seems little compared to recent acquisitions like Nokia, Instagram or WhatsApp).

Well the bad news for those who are still enjoying Qik’s services until today, you might be disappointed to learn that the company has recently announced that the service will be officially closing down on the 30th of April 2014. (more…)
