Monster Genesis High-End Headphones

Noel Lee, the “Head Monster”, shows us the Genesis before handing them over for a quick ears-on

Monster produces a ton of cool headphones, but the Genesis is the latest wonder-baby of the company. Monster classifies the Genesis headphones as being an ultra-premium headphone design that will surely give Bose and the like a run for their money. The Monster Genesis is an active noise-cancelling headphone that has a very sturdy design, but it was also lighter than one may think. That’s what I really like about the Genesis: the blend between high-quality audio and industrial design, but not at the price of additional weight on my head. I’ve tried other high-end headphones, and many of them are just too heavy for a daily use – even if they all feel incredibly solid. (more…)

Monster clarityHD katana 00 640x359 Monster ClarityHD Katana Wireless Speaker[CES 2013] Wireless compact speakers streaming music from smartphones and delivering big sound are trendy, and we like popular products such as the Jambox on the tiny side and the B&O BeoPlay 8 on the expensive side. So, we were pleased to discover another high quality and elegant device in that category, namely the ClarityHD Katana Wireless Digital Music System designed by Monster. The Katana, as nicknamed by the Monster team, features a stylish design with a form factor reminiscent of the samurai’s weapon of choice, which offers a sleek and slightly curved chassis. Asus Qube With Google TV

Qube2s Asus Qube With Google TV [CES 2013] I know that the Asus Qube and Google’s Nexus Q do not have much in common with one another in terms of functionality, where the former will shack up with Google TV, but I suppose it is the naming convention that makes me think that there is some sort of mystical link between them. Anyways, without much further ado, here are more details on the Asus Qube that you might just be interested in.

The Asus Qube will instantly add Google TV to your HDTV, where you will also be able to enjoy not only motion control but voice search as well which integrates Google Play, Chrome, and YouTube (among others, I am sure) in a single, compact device. You are able to access more than 100,000 movies and TV shows from Netflix and Amazon Instant Video, apart from enjoying an every growing number of apps, videos and games from Google Play. In a nutshell, Asus has positioned the Qube with Google TV to be the ideal media content device.

Asus also had a hand with the special Qube interface, where it will display functions through a rotating on-screen cube shape, making me hark back to the interface of Vicki in I, Robot. Sporting an advanced remote control that supports motion sensing for gaming and other applications, you can also rely on your Android-powered smartphone to control Qube. Asus will also throw in 50GB of WebStorage cloud space with every purchase of Qube with Google TV, now how about that for a deal sweetener?

Forget OUYA, Sunflex unu wants to be your Android gaming buddy

Turning Android into a gaming platform is getting popular, with OUYA‘s Kickstarter success, then NVIDIA’s Project SHIELD announced yesterday, and now the Sunflex unu hoping to earn a place in your living room. Pairing an Android-based slate with a gamepad controller, a wireless QWERTY remote, and a regular remote, the dockable unu easily hooks up to a big-screen TV for media streaming and gaming duties.

Sunflex isn’t giving specific specs right now, but based on the previous prototype version of the unu – the Snakebyte Eins – we’re guessing at the same combination of either a 7- or 10-inch display, and a 1.6GHz Rockchip RK3066 dualcore CPU and Mali-400 GPU under the hood. The usual WiFi, Bluetooth, and cameras are also onboard.

As Sunflex sees it, unu gives you the best of a regular tablet with the flexibility of playing Android games on your TV, with a button-mapping app included to help titles expecting a touchscreen to work with the unu gamepad. There’s also media streaming thanks to Android’s various on-demand apps, such as Netflix.

Pricing isn’t mentioned, though Sunflex was talking of a €199 ($260) sticker back when it was showing off the last prototype. There’s growing competition in this space, however, and the company will need to work hard to stand out from the crowd.

Trakdot baggage tracking lets you follow your luggage in real-time

With a significant number of the world’s technology bloggers and journalists descending on Las Vegas this week for CES, losing luggage was a very real threat. It’s an occurrence that is never welcome, but just because the airline loses your baggage, it doesn’t mean you have to be left in the dark as to where it ended up. Trakdot is trying to take some of the stress out of losing track of your baggage by introducing its new Trakdot Luggage tracker this week at the show.

trakdot

The idea behind it is pretty straightforward: stick the palm-sized tracker into your bag, and you’ll get city-specific information on where it is. If it ends up where you end up, then there’s nothing to worry about, but if it somehow gets shipped off to another city, then at least you’ll know where it is. This information will be updated in real-time as you try to reunite with your missing luggage.

You can take things a step further by registering your Trakdot tracker on the company’s website. In doing so, you’ll be able to track your luggage from your smartphone. Trakdot says that each tracker can be linked to multiple phones, and each phone can track multiple devices. Users will also be able to track their luggage from the company’s website, so there are a number of different ways to keep an eye on your missing luggage.

To make the deal even sweeter, Trakdot says its tracker will work globally with any phone or SMS-enabled device. The tracker is scheduled to launch in March 2013 and comes with a price tag of $49.95. To get started, you’ll have to plop down an $8.99 activation fee, and then you’ll have to pay an annual $12.99 service fee to keep things going. Be sure to check out our CES portal for much, much more from the show!

Asus VivoTab Smart Tablet Runs On Windows 8

vivotab smart1 Asus VivoTab Smart Tablet Runs On Windows 8[CES 2013] It was at the turn of the new year when we talked about how the Asus VivoTab Smart tablet has launched, and so if you were headed towards CES this year, you would be able to check out the Asus VivoTab Smart Tablet as well. What makes this particular model different from the original VivoTab? Well, it runs on Windows 8 for instance, never mind that in the eyes of many, the Intel Atom Z2760 dual-core processor is not exactly a trailblazer to say the least.

A full charge of the battery is able to last for up to 9.5 hours, where the Asus VivoTab Smart Tablet measures a mere 9.7mm in thickness and tips the scales at 580 grams. Other hardware specifications include a 10.1-inch LED-backlit display with a crisp 1366 x 768 HD resolution, while IPS display technology offers a 178-degree wide viewing angle. Not only that, 5-point multi-touch is also thrown into the mix for fluid fingertip control with Windows 8. An 8-megapixel camera at the back with auto-focus, five-element lens and 1080p Full HD video recording is also part of the setup, in addition to a 2-megapixel camera front facing camera for video chats of the HD variety. Any takers?

LG’s ET83 touchscreen Windows 8 monitor, fingers-on

LG's ET83 touchscreen Windows 8 monitor, fingerson

We heard about it some time ago and managed to get some fingers on time with LG’s new 23-inch Windows 8 optimized monitor at today’s CES press conference. It’s a nice looking peripheral, for sure. The IPS panel is cocooned by a black bezel, which meets a white shiny plastic rear at its tips. Along the bottom bezel are a number of touchscreen controls, including things like Menu, for adjusting picture quality and the like. The screen sits on a leg with a large hinge for adjusting your viewing angle. Unfortunately, the single leg support shake a bit when you tap the screen, so you’re going to want go a bit easy when tapping on those Metro tiles.

All in all, its quite responsive. We were able to tap and slide through the Microsoft UI in a breeze. As long as you’re not too aggressive with you’re touchscreening, it looks to be a pretty nice compliment to Microsoft’s latest desktop operating system.
