SuperTooth launches the $199 Disco Twin and $89 HD Voice at CES video

Gallic Bluetooth audio house SuperTooth wants you to buy its Disco speakers in pairs to better show off its stereo prowess, not to mention make a little more cash. That’s why it’s outing the Disco Twin here at CES, a $199 pair of noisyboxes that offer discrete left and right stereo — each pumping out 16 watts of RMS power. You’ll be able to squeeze up to four hours of juice out of each one if you use them to host a (short) rave, or up to 10 hours in more serene circumstances. At the same time, it’s also releasing the HD Voice, an $89 hands-free car kit that clips to your sun visor and will even pair with your phone using voice commands. The company isn’t ready to say when the pair will be available, but we can’t imagine it’ll be a long wait.

iRobot to unveil new cleaning robots at CES 2013

Out of the many head-turners that will show up at the pool this summer, one new gadget will certainly catch the eye of any geek getting his tan on. iRobot will be unveiling the Mirra 530 pool-cleaning robot at CES next week, along with the Looj 330 gutter-cleaning robot, both of which provide the same great robot-cleaning technology from the makers who brought you Roomba.

The Mirra 530 deep cleans any type of in-ground pool, both the surface and the water. iRobot has engineered the machine to remove all of the pesky gunk from your pool, including leaves, hair, and dirt. However, it also tackles the things you can’t see, such as algae, pollen, and bacteria as small as two microns.

The pool-cleaning robot can go through up to 70 gallons of water per minute and filter out all the debris that makes its way through. Thanks to its iAdapt Nautiq system, it’ll even automatically figure out the size of your pool to determine which cleaning program is the most efficient.

Furthermore, the company is also unveiling the Looj 330 gutter-washer to those outside of the US, and it’s the first time that iRobot is selling an outdoor unit outside of the US. The Mirra 530 pool cleaner will set you back a cool $1,299 (€1,499 in Europe) and will launch in the spring. The Looj 330 will also arrive in the spring, costing €299.

Mad Catz teases GameSmart mobile gaming peripherals for CES 2013

It looks like Mad Catz will have some special treats in store for CES this year. The company is teasing a new line of mobile gaming peripherals called GameSmart, and will consist of a full line of mobile gaming devices that include game controllers, mice, keyboards, headsets, and other specialty controllers.

Screen Shot 2013-01-04 at 10.07.36 AM

According to the landing page, the devices are “designed to work seamlessly and wirelessly with a wide array of devices and platforms,” and will connect to existing devices via Bluetooth. The peripherals will work with laptops, tablets, and smartphones, and will utilize Bluetooth Smart technology.

The company says it’ll include an app to add functionality to the peripherals, and they also expect the tech to help game developers bridge differences between platforms by offering standardized controllers. Although Mad Catz is waiting until CES to unveil these GameSmart gamepads, keyboards, mice, and headsets, the company says the hardware won’t launch until shortly after its unveiled.

Unfortunately, Mad Catz aren’t providing any photos of the new devices — not even a quick tease other than an outline of a generic-looking game controller, which looks an awful lot like an Xbox 360 controller. So it looks like we’ll be waiting until next week before we’ll see what these new mobile devices will look like.

LG to show off smart home appliances at CES 2013

While LG may be showing off some new mobile devices at CES next week, the company will also be showing off some new home appliances. The company announced today that they’ll be putting several new smart home appliances on display at CES 2013, including a new refrigerator, washing machine, robot vacuum, and oven.

smart_appliances2

The appliances can interact with users’ smartphones using NFC or remote control over a home WiFi network. By simply touching smartphones to the NFC tag on the smart appliances, users can easily control the refrigerator, washing machine, robotic vacuum cleaner, or the range oven. Users can also give simple voice commands via their smartphones and remotely monitor appliances using LG’s Smart Control.

Now, what exactly could you do with smart home appliances? LG says you could start a load of laundry while you’re on your way home from work, tell your robotic cleaner to vacuum the floor, or bring up a list of food items that are currently in the fridge, as well as bring up a grocery shopping list for items that you need.

The LCD displays on the appliances allow users to access a slew of information. For instance, the oven’s LCD screen can allow you to monitor the status of your oven, search for recipes, set cooking modes, and diagnose problems. Furthermore NFC allows you to quickly set your oven to any particular mode for a specific recipe. Nifty!

Velocity Micro unveils tiny Edge Mini desktop, Cruz D610 and Q610 tablets

Velocity Micro unveils tiny Edge Mini desktop, Cruz D610 and Q610 tablets

Velocity Micro was busy this December, and it’s not about to let up with CES right around the corner. At the forefront of its Las Vegas launches is the Edge Mini. While we’re sure some companies might take issue with the PC builder’s claims of having the world’s smallest desktop, there’s no denying that the extra-small Edge’s 4 square inches of surface area and 1.5-inch thickness let it slot easily into a home theater. A Core i3 won’t make the Edge Mini the most powerful tiny desktop, either, although its $499 asking price may not be an obstacle for those willing to buy the PC when it ships next week.

The tablet crowd also gets its fill with a pair of 10-inch Cruz tablets (pictured after the break). The D610 and Q610 respectively use dual- and quad-core, 1.5GHz Allwinner processors that help keep the starting price down to $199, a company spokesperson tells us. Velocity Micro expects both Cruz models to ship toward the end of March with Android 4.1 inside.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Could Be Shown Off At CES 2013, But Only For Executives To See [Rumor]

Samsung Galaxy S4 Could Be Shown Off At CES 2013, But Only For Executives To See [Rumor]So we know that the Samsung Galaxy S4 will not be debuting at CES 2013, and a recent confirmation by Samsung has suggested that the earliest we could see the Galaxy S4 would be after May 2013, but this does not mean that the South Korean company will not be shopping the handset around to some of their partners and carriers. Yup it seems that according to reports, word has it that Samsung will actually be bringing the Galaxy S4 with them to CES 2013, but unfortunately the handset will be restricted to the company’s high-profile partners and certain carriers, and that Samsung Electronics’ vice president Jay Lee will be the one who will be showing the device off.

Unsurprisingly it seems that the demonstration of the Galaxy S4 will be done behind closed doors and under very tight security to ensure that nothing is leaked ahead of its release. The report has also suggested that the device Samsung is bringing may not be the final design of the handset, but rather a prototype with some of the rumored hardware which Samsung will be using to provide its partners and carriers with information about the device before decisions are made. Assuming this report is to be believed, it would make sense that the earlier alleged leaked Galaxy S4 press shot might only be a photo of the prototype, rather than its final design.

Qualcomm Atheros announces StreamBoost technology to improve home networks, router performance

Qualcomm Atheros announces StreamBoost tech to improve home networks, router performance

Tired of gadgets fighting for bandwidth around your humble abode? Well, the outfit behind the Killer Wireless-N technology that we took a gander at back at E3 is looking to oblige. Qualcomm Atheros has unveiled its StreamBoost router technology with the goal of making in-home streaming experiences all the more enjoyable. By allocating optimum bandwidth to each device and app on a network, StreamBoost shapes and prioritizes the traffic stream to insure that your Netflix viewing of Sons of Anarchy gets ample attention. This also insures that intense gaming sessions won’t be interrupted by Hulu Plus or other apps jostling for a download thanks to a constantly updating bandwidth allocation. A user interface offers a hub for monitoring traffic and all of the devices / apps on a given network while a cloud-based service will increase router intelligence on the regular — automatically sorting new devices as they’re added. StreamBoost will be in action next week at CES, where Alienware and D-Link will be showing off the goods with routers built around Qualcomm’s VIVE 802.11ac WiFi technology. Until then, the full announcement resides just past the break.
