Pure Jongo hands-on: Sonos on a budget

Pure is on a mission, and that’s to steal the streaming music crown from industry heavyweights Sonos. The strategy to do that is make Pure Jongo cheap, undercutting Sonos’ premium price tag with a range of affordable wireless speakers and WiFi music adapters at up to a third of the price of a Sonos box. And, just as you’d expect, there’s on-demand playlists and internet radio from iPad, iPhone, and Android remote control apps.

pure_jongo_hands-on_sg_5

There are three hardware parts to the Jongo system, kicking off with the Pure Jongo S340B speaker with an RRP of $229. It includes both WiFi and Bluetooth – for whole-home streaming – as well as more direct playback from a nearby phone or tablet, and surround audio with five speakers and individual amps spread around the body of the speaker.

Pure Jongo official video:

Multiple audio profiles can be toggled through with a dedicated button on the back, and there’s a choice of mono or stereo playback. Unlike Sonos’ PLAY range, the Jongo S340B can be used away from a power socket, thanks to a rechargeable battery pack good for up to 10hrs use.

pure_jongo_hands-on_sg_1

The Pure Jongo T640B is a more beefy version, with 100W pushed through 5-inch full-range drive units and dual-concentric tweeters. It can be fitted on a stand in portrait or landscape orientation, or wall mounted, though doesn’t have a battery. No word on pricing at this stage.

Pure Jongo live:

Finally, there’s the $129 Jongo A140B, a HiFi adapter with no onboard speaker, to bridge the Jongo system to an existing stereo. It has both WiFi and Bluetooth like the others, plus a 24-bit DAC, optical and coaxial digital outputs, and dual phono analog outputs. Again, no word on pricing.

For software, Pure uses its new Pure Connected app, available for Android and iOS. It streams from Pure Music, the company’s own Spotify rival, and can send different music to each Jongo speaker, or synchronize to all of the speakers. It also features an Explorer section for finding new content.

The Pure Jongo S340B will arrive in Q1 2013, with a choice of optional speaker grills at $29.99 apiece. The other components will land in the first half of 2013. The new Pure Connect app will arrive in Q1 2013.

Belkin drops two new WeMo Android-controlled light options at CES

Today the folks from Belkin are expanding on their WiFi enabled household light products. Their WeMo home-automation has continued to improve already in 2013, and today in Las Vegas for CES Belkin announced two new Android-controlled options. We knew home automation would be a big part of the show so read on for more details.

WeMoSwitchONSetup

The newly announced WeMo Light Switch, an Internet connected light switch to remotely control wired household lighting from anywhere was just announced and will enable you to easily control your entire household lighting with ease. No longer does the app require the same WiFi network for use, as you can now control everything right from your Android smartphone.

Leave the office late, just simply launch their new app and control the lights all from your Android smartphone or tablet. Not only can you turn the lights on/off from anywhere, but you’ll also have full scheduling options, not to mention reminders and alerts. Leave for a work trip and forget to turn out the lights? No problem as the Belkin WeMo light switch solves the problem.

Until today, Belkin’s WeMo option has only supported iOS, but today they’ve integrated Android into their options and will be showing it off here in Las Vegas tonight for CES Unveiled. The product is expected to launch in beta later this year. We’ll be sure to stop by their booth and give the new home automated light switches a try on Android. Stay tuned and watch our CES portal for all the news.

Lenovo IdeaCentre Horizon Table PC makes family gaming gigantic

You may have read the word “Tablet” in the title of this post, but this unit from Lenovo is actually called a “Table” because of its massiveness. This is the Lenovo IdeaCentre Horizon Table PC, a machine that “can lie flat on any surface” with its 27-inch display for use by two or more people at once – perfect for multi-player games. This machine also works as a desktop machine, but because of the unique nature included in the gaming angle on this beast, Lenovo’s created a new word for the cross-over between physical and digital interaction: “phygital”.

The IdeaCentre Horizon works with Windows 8 and makes with the direct connections to games customized for unique play on this unit alone, including selections from the likes of Electronic Arts and Unbisoft. Not only will you be using the touchscreen display to work with the games included here, you’ve got a collection of special accessories to make use of as well. This machine comes with e-dice, four joysticks and strikers to make this a fully-immersive experience.

The software experience on this Table PC includes the Lenovo App Shop powered by Intel AppUp for multi-user excellence across thousands of downloadable games. You’ve also got exclusive access to a package of pre-loaded gaming experiences like Monopoly – and joystick-friendly games such as FishingJoy and Raiding Company. This machine is also being pushed forth with BlueStacks integration so you can work with Android apps, too!

“It’s exciting to see Lenovo continue to drive innovation and creativity in its new hardware designs. With the 27-inch display, touch UI and built-in battery, the Horizon Table PC enables a range of computing scenarios for Windows users, from PC productivity to social connectivity and family game play.” – Stephen McCall, senior director, OEM, marketing, Microsoft Corp.

This beast works with more than one mode, too, with its own “smart hinge system” turning it into a Lenovo “Aura”-toting machine, Aura being Lenovo’s own unique user interface over Windows 8, “[serving] as a great way to launch pre-loaded gaming and educational apps or download new ones from the online app store.” As Lenovo also notes: “This simple UI lets families play, learn or enjoy multimedia content together on one screen.”

Inside the Horizon you’ve got NVIDIA GeForce graphics, a 3rd Gen Intel Core i7 processor as well as Dolby Home Theatre v4 audio. Horizon is able to work with the optional “Horizon Multimode Table”, allowing the machine to change the height and angle of the Table PC, from flat to 90 degrees. The IdeaCentre Horizon Table PC will be popping up in early summer starting at $1,699 USD.

Lenovo pulls the veil off new all-in-one PCs, mobile touch screen companion

Lenovo may be branching out and targeting the gaming crowd with its new Erazer X700 gaming rig, but it’s also taken the time to announce some more familiar products at CES. In addition to the slew of new machines Lenovo is planning to launch, it has revealed a pair of all-in-one PCs, along with a new mobile touch screen companion. Make no mistake, Lenovo is looking to make a pretty big splash in 2013, and it’s using CES to show us what it has in store for the year.

3223423423

IdeaCentre A730

Let’s start right off with the new all-in-ones the company has announced. First we have the IdeaCentre A730, which features a 27-inch touch screen with a couple of different options when it comes to resolution. Consumers will have their pick between quad HD – 2560×1440 – resolution, or 1080p for people who don’t need the bump up in pixel density. You’ll also have 10-point multitouch at your disposal, with the whole unit coming in at less than an inch thick. Apple’s new iMac may have just met its match as far as overall thickness goes.

A730_Hero_08
A730_Hero_02
A730_Hero_03
A730_Hero_12

The A730 comes with Windows 8 Pro installed, along with an adjustable screen angle that covers the wide range between -5 and 90 degrees. Consumers will be able to pick from Intel’s line up of third-gen Core CPUs and storage options up to 1TB. The A730 is set to launch in June with models starting at $1,499.

C540 all-in-one

If a 27-inch screen is a little too big for your liking, you might want to take a look at the at the C540 all-in-one, which features a smaller 23-inch touch screen. Don’t expect a ton of power running under the hood though, as the C540 makes use of an Intel Core i3 processor and discrete NVIDIA GeForce graphics.

C540_Hero_06
C540_Hero_04
C540_Hero_05

Interestingly enough, Lenovo will be offering the C540 in both touch and non-touch configurations. Non-touch models will become available in February and will start at $549. Touch models will follow in June, but Lenovo has yet to talk pricing for these.

ThinkVision LT1423p

There’s also Lenovo’s new ThinkVision LT1423p mobile touch screen companion to cover. The LT1423p is aimed at those who need a mobile monitor that offers a bump up in resolution, as this 13.3-inch screen boasts 1600×900 resolution, not unlike the screen we saw on the IdeaPad Yoga 13. There will be wired and wireless versions of the LT1423p, and the AH-IPS display is covered in Gorilla Glass to give it a little extra protection against abuse. In a nod to its business consumers, Lenovo will also be including an electromagnetic stylus. The LT1423p will be arriving in Q2 2013 – no specific date just yet – and unfortunately Lenovo hasn’t revealed any pricing details.

Overall, it’s been a pretty big CES for Lenovo. The manufacturer has announced a ton of new computers, most of them with touch capabilities, so we’ll see if this new touch-centric strategy ends up working out. Of course, there’s plenty more left to see at CES 2013, so keep it here at SlashGear for all you need to know.

Lenovo Erazer X700 PC targets the gaming crowd

When we think of hardcore PC gaming, Lenovo isn’t exactly the first manufacturer that comes to mind, but the company is looking to change that. Today Lenovo unveiled its new Erazer X700 gaming PC, and if you’re thinking of entering the PC gaming realm but don’t want to build your own rig, the Erazer X700 might be worthy of your consideration. Most gaming PCs come equipped with truly stellar enthusiast-level hardware, but the Erazer X700 has one feature in particular that sure to turn some heads.

sdafad

Specifically speaking, we’re talking about Lenovo’s Onekey Overclocking feature. We’ve heard about Onekey before, as it’s a standard feature on many Lenovo machines that lets you create a backup and recover your computer with a simple button press. Onekey has been somewhat revamped for the Erazer X700, as it allows you to overclock your processor without going into the BIOS first. That should prove to be a pretty handy feature for gamers who need to be getting the most juice out of their processor.

Speaking of processors, it seems that you’ll have your choice of Intel’s Core family of CPUs with the Erazer X700, along with dual-graphics support for NVIDIA GeForce or AMD Radeon HD GPUs. Lenovo didn’t say what kind of graphic card will come standard in the Erazer X700, but the company did point to the fact that the X700 comes equipped with a whopping 32GB of RAM. That should be more than enough to make sure your game is running silky smooth.

Add to that support for AMD Eyefinity technology, a liquid cooling system, and the ability to add up to 4TB of storage while the computer is running, and it sounds like we’ve got one beefy gaming PC on our hands. The Erazer X700 will be available starting in June, and models start at $1,499. We imagine that $1,499 price tag applies to the lower end of the spectrum, so if you want your rig to be rocking a Core i7 and a top-of-the-line graphics card, expect to shell out a little more cash. Keep it tuned here to SlashGear for more from CES 2013!

lenovo ERAZER X700 07 522x640 Lenovo Erazer X700 Gaming Desktop

[CES 2013] When I first took a look at the Lenovo Erazer X700 gaming desktop, I could not help but think of this as a more angled version of an Alienware offering, and I do not think that I am the only one in such an observation. The smart and stylish design would definitely make you look more menacing than you already are as an accomplished gamer, and the Lenovo Erazer X700 would definitely elicit positive responses from whoever looks at it. Carrying Extreme Intel X79 processors, you know for sure that dropped framerates are not part of the Lenovo Erazer X700′s vocabulary. Along with that kind of muscle, you will find dual graphics support, a hot swap drive bay, a USB 3.0 docking station, and of course, liquid cooling to keep everything running fine and dandy even when all the performance settings have been turned up to the maximum level in your games.

Each purchase of the Lenovo Erazer X700 will come with an accompanying gaming keyboard and mouse, not to mention having it support overclocking via software thanks to Lenovo Overclock 1.0. Got to love the cold blue LED effect that surely adds to the air of mystique around you at a LAN party or BYOC event.

Lenovo IdeaCentre Horizon 27, An “Interpersonal” PC

lenovo horizon 07 600x640 Lenovo IdeaCentre Horizon 27, An Interpersonal PC[CES 2013] Lenovo has just announced the Lenovo IdeaCentre Horizon 27, a massive 27″ touch PC that can be used as a Table PC, and All-In-One or as (Trans)portable computer with a short battery life. Yes, you can actually unplug this computer and move it around if you want. By introducing this form-factor, Lenovo wants to push the envelope of what can be done with a touch PC. If you remember the original Microsoft Surface table PC, it did cost tens of thousands of dollars, and it wasn’t clear what could be done with such computers. Others like Pioneer, looked at it and ultimately flopped.

Lenovo brings a smaller form factor to the market (27″ versus 42″), but with a price tag of $1699, it is clearly more affordable than previous “Table PC”. In terms of usage models, Lenovo did present a few situations, like using it as a workstation, or getting three or four people to play a game together. Monopoly could be really cool on the Lenovo IdeaCentre Horizon 27.

In the end, it’s about the apps, and that’s why Lenovo has joined forces with Ubisoft to provide a better out of the box experience. The system will come pre-loaded with a number of family-oriented games and I had the opportunity to try a couple of them for myself, such as King of the Opera (a game where you get points for staying in the spotlight), DrawRace 2 and Raiding Company (a shooter). Playing on the same screen was definitely a great experience, one that’s closer to a board game than a networked video game, actually. What would you do with a 27″ table PC?
