If we’re able to avert this looming “spectrum apocalypse” we’ve heard so much about, it looks like 2010 will be the year that many of you get to partake in LTE. What better way to indulge your lust for airborne data than ZyXEL’s newest, the ZLR-2070S LTE CPE/SOHO router? Apparently “the world’s first,” this guy features two VoIP ports, a four port 802.11n wireless switch, a USB port for storage or printer sharing, and data rates up to 50Mbps. Not bad, eh? We expect to hear more about this one in short order — it will make its society debut at next year’s CES. In the meantime, peep the PR for more info — it’s after the break.

AMD and CyberLink, which recently integrated SENSIO 3D technology into its PowerDVD player, are already touting a 2010 CES demo promising to show off their implementation of “the forthcoming Blu-ray stereoscopic 3D standard.” While the world continues to wait for an announcement on what the 3D Blu-ray standard will actually entail (backwards compatible 2D combo discs, and Full HD stereoscopic technology are definitely on the list) AMD is ready to leverage its position as a contributing member of the Blu-ray Disc Association and make sure that when discs hit the market — likely around the time Avatar is released at home — it has compatible software and hardware available. We’ve prepped and ready for the glasses-required trials that promise to be featured at many booths during next months Las Vegas experience, so a note to potential exhibitors: sports and videogames are the best bet for an impressive 3D showing, bring Space Harrier 3D for extra bonus points.

That faint sound you can hear right now is the approaching sonic boom of a new portable speedster. OCZ, already the proud patriarch of some pretty radical SSD varieties, has confirmed a new external drive that will hook up via the super speedy USB 3.0 interconnect (whose uncertain future we’ve discussed here). It’s no secret that SSDs tend to get all choked up around current-gen USB or Firewire connections, so we always welcome forward-thinking new drives with open arms. OCZ is still in the process of crowdsourcing a name for its new product, so don’t look for specs just yet, but if there are any mysteries left by January, rest assured that CES 2010 will clear them all up.

Online video platform Boxee has signed a deal with an unknown device manufacturer to produce a “Boxee box” that will stream the site’s content. The company will show a mock-up of the box and reveal more details at its December 7 meet-up in Brooklyn, NY.

Boxee has been working on this deal since the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), CEO Avner Ronen said in a blog post. “During the show we met with several device manufactures interested in embedding Boxee into their existing devices or building a dedicated Boxee device,” he wrote.

Boxee has secured a partnership with a consumer electronics company, but they cannot “say more about the partner or the specs of the device,” Ronen said.

“This will be the first connected device running Boxee, but the idea is to provide consumers with a way to get Boxee in their living rooms, no matter whether it’s on a Connected TV, game console, set-top box, BluRay player, computer, etc,” he continued. “Our goal is to be on every Connected device in the living room.”

In a rather odd unfolding of events, it seems as if Barnes & Noble is finally clearing up the mystery behind that Plastic Logic e-reader slated to hit its retail locations by Spring of 2010. After making said announcement, the book seller then went out and introduced an e-book reader of its very own in the Nook, and only now are we learning that the Plastic Logic-built QUE proReader will also be splashing down at the outfit sometime next year. In a brief release posted today, we’re told that the recently teased big-screen reader (8.5- x 11-inches) will be sold throughout B&N’s retail footprint and on its website; makes sense given that B&N is powering the proReader’s online e-book store, but the fact that it’ll be placed prominently near the outfit’s own (somewhat competing) device is certainly interesting. We’re expecting to see more come CES 2010, and seriously, with the rate at which these readers are hitting brick-and-mortar locations, Amazon might want to consider implementing some kind of physical trial in order to not go overlooked in its corner of the web.
