Bean Bag Iron Throne: A Song of Beads and Foam

The Iron Throne in Westeros is not supposed to be comfortable. Those swords that jab you when you sit in it keep you alert, therefore alive for another day. But who wants to poked and prodded by their own throne? Well, now you can have your very own Iron Throne and sit in comfort.

Nerd by Night has turned the Iron Throne into an epic bean bag chair. If you want one like it, you’ll have to make this throne yourself, but that beats going to war and having to pay the iron price, right? To make one, you won’t need any valerian steel, but you’ll need to cut and paint fabric, sew it into place, and stuff it with foam and bean bag beans. When you are finished, you will have a comfortable throne.

A comfortable throne that still looks badass.

Channel Your Inner Skeletor with the Skull Armchair

This skull armchair is the perfect throne. Especially if you like to cosplay as Skeletor and lounge around acting all evil. It’s best to face away from any captives that are going to be entering the room. You want them to see the skull face first and be thoroughly frightened before they see you. Though it needs to be placed on a rotating turntable for full effect.

This Skull Armchair was designed by French artist Harold Sangouard who probably sits in it and laughs maniacally all day. The face is very angular and pretty darn creepy. You should be petting a cat while sitting there too for dramatic effect.

How much is it? Too much, that’s how much. “Price available upon request.” In other words, you and I can’t afford it. Only evil geniuses should inquire. Wait, do evil geniuses buy things, or do they steal them all?

Inflatable Everything Chair: The Ultimate Gift for Lazy Guys

Looking for a place to hang out and chill? Look no further than the Everything Chair. This comfy, inflatable easy chair has everything you need to maintain your state of slothfulness, and is the perfect gift idea for the lazy man who has everything.

Simply blow up the chair with the included foot pump, and get to relaxing. The 36″ x 36″ x 36″ chair offers a pair of built-in can holders in the arm rests, pockets in the arms for storing your magazines, game discs, and remote controls, as well as a pair of speakers in the headrest. While you could just hook up your media player to the 3.5mm jack, I’m thinking you could hack the speakers to function as inexpensive, but effective surround speakers for a media room too.

There’s really not much to dislike about the Everything Chair – unless you’ve got a cat that hasn’t been declawed. At least they’ve been kind enough to include a puncture repair kit to help deal with unintended leaks. And you could always just put your cat in the box that the chair comes in.

The Everything Chair is available from IWOOT for £49.99 (~$81 USD) or from Convenient Gadgets & Gifts for $89.95(USD).

Guy makes Game of Thrones' Iron Throne with cheap plastic chair

You’re not about to create the Iron Throne from the swords of your defeated enemies so why not play it a little safer by making one with a plastic garden chair and a can of spray paint? Seriously, this garden chair throne is almost as good as the one in Game of Thrones.

Mamoris Chair Doubles As an Emergency Helmet: Spaceballs: The Chair

I feel like this is a design inspired by Spaceballs, but despite the fact that it looks silly, furniture that doubles as protective gear could save your life. The Mamoris chair features a backrest that doubles as an emergency helmet. Imagine yourself sitting there doing your work at your desk, when suddenly you feel an earthquake.

You may not have time to do much, but you can at least grab the back of your seat and cover you head with it. That could be enough to save your life right there or prevent a head injury. This design saves you the trouble of finding a place to store the helmet when you are not using it too.

The unique shape covers not only the head but also the neck and back area, which is where you want to be protected.

There’s no word on whether the Mamoris chair will go beyond the prototype stage, but it’s definitely a good idea for locations that are earthquake prone, so hopefully it’ll go into production at some point.

Bloc’d Sofa Turns into Whatever Furniture You Need It To Be

Living spaces are getting smaller and smaller unless you can afford to pay the premium for a larger apartment. It makes sense to only have essential furniture at home, since they’re bulky and will give your flat a cramped feeling if you’ve got too much of them.

Cue the Bloc’d Sofa, which turns into a whole host of furniture options, depending on what you need at the moment.

    Blocd Sofa 620x413magnify

First and foremost, it’s a sofa with cube cushions. If you want a flatter sofa or a bed of sorts for a quick nap, then all you need to do is rearrange the cushions this way and that to form the final arrangement of your choice.

Bloc’d Sofa was designed by Scott Jones, who explains that his goal behind the piece was “to try to understand why we hold on to some objects, while we discard others.”

    Blocd Sofa5 300x250
    Blocd Sofa6 300x250
    Blocd Sofa7 300x250

Scott adds that Bloc’d started out as “a pile of discarded furniture I [Jones] walked past on an NYC sidewalk.” He is currently looking for a manufacturer for Bloc’d but is currently accepting individual orders on his site.

Feel Like the King of the Beetles with This Rhinoceros Beetle Chair

If you are a fan of the Beatles, disregard this chair. However, if you are a fan of actual bug beetles you are going to love this. This huge and very comfy looking Rhinoceros Beetle chair is fit for a beetle king.

    beetle chair 620x481magnify

This insect inspired chair by Maximo Riera is all kinds of awesome if you love bugs (and all kinds of awful if you hate them.) As Maximo points out, beetles are the strongest land animal in relation to their size, capable of lifting over a hundred times their own weight. So why not let let them serve as chairs?

    beetle chair1 620x449magnify

I say we genetically alter them and beef them up and put them in our living rooms. Besides, the way the average American is getting fatter, we are going to need some new durable furniture.

Unfortunately, the Beetle Chair is just a one-off design right now, but it would be awesome if we could buy it.

Furniture Made Like Stretchy Fruit Packaging

I’m sure you’ve bought fruit or had some at home when it was still wrapped snugly in the box in its foam rubber packaging. I remember my cousins and I fighting over who got the stretchy, accordion-like stuff whenever an adult would grab an apple or pear from the box, because it was a toy to us, not trash.

Getting inspiration from this same packaging is Japanese designer Keisuke Fujiwara.

Pillowy Styrofoam ChairsI’m sure his chair’s designs look more than familiar to you, because they resemble that stretchy fruit packaging I was just talking about. The structure, the way the fibers cross and intersect with one another, and the shape of the chair screams “I was inspired by the foam rubber packaging that protected your fruit while it was in transit!”

    Pillowy Styrofoam Chairs1magnify

Apparently, they also feel like the rubbery packaging too, because the chairs are described as being “pillowy soft” and “moldable.” They’ll also “wrap around” anyone who sits in them, making for a very comfortable piece of furniture.

Infinity Blade III Launching On iOS September 18 For $6.99

There were a number of news pieces that slipped through the cracks during Apple’s iPhone event, such as Apple updating its iPod line to include the iPhone 5S’ space grey color option. One bit of news that slipped through the cracks even though it took center stage during Apple’s presentation was the next chapter in ChAIR Entertainment’s popular iOS franchise, Infinity Blade.  (more…)
