With Apple’s next big iPhone event right around the corner
According to a report from AllThingsD, Apple will be taking the lid off of its new iPhone a month from today, on September 10th. Save the date for what should be a big day—especially if it’s not the only debut Apple’s got up its sleeve.
Thanks to a non-profit, undercover safety investigation into Apple supplier, Pegatron, we apparently have confirmation that Apple is indeed getting ready to release a cheaper, plastic-backed iPhone.
It’s the end of a new week and we almost got away with not hearing another rumor for the budget iPhone Apple is reportedly currently working on. But, alas, another week is yet to be complete without a regular dose of a budget iPhone rumor, so let’s just get this one out of the way, shall we?
The budget iPhone Apple is reportedly in the process of creating will come with fewer bells and whistles than people originally anticipated. A recently published note to investors by RBC Capital Markets’ Amit Daryanani says Apple is expected to launch “multiple new phones” between June and July of this year. The first being the most obvious, the iPhone 5S, while the budget iPhone will be an additional release which will feature a “plastic casing and no Retina display.” Daryanani also notes “with a lower price points, Apple will be able to target a growing and important part of the smartphone market (sub-$400 price band).”
Considering how long the budget iPhone has been rumored for, we’d be surprised if Apple doesn’t announce some kind of iPhone device that is geared towards emerging markets. Although, considering how good older iPhone models will still hold up in those markets, we could also see why Apple may not want to offer a new budget iPhone.

Apple’s budget iPhone has been rumored for several months now, the latest of which suggest the device would have a 4-inch display like the iPhone 5, and possibly come in a number of colors. The latter rumor sparked Dutch website iPhoneclub to commission Martin Hajek to come up with some concepts showing what a multi-colored budget iPhone would look like.
What Hajek came up with looks pretty nice, even though he only came up with two additional colors for the budget iPhone: red and a light teal. Both of the concept budget iPhones also feature a 4-inch display and looks great sitting next to the iPhone 5. You can also catch the surrounding of the budget iPhones are made of plastic, unlike the iPhone 5′s completely metal surrounding. (more…)

The latest rumor for the cheaper iPhone, which itself has been a rumor for several months now, shines a light on the possibility of the device featuring a 4-inch display as well as a plastic case that’s available in an assortment of colors.
According to KGI Securities’ Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is expected to deliver a cheaper iPhone with the same screen size as the current iPhone 5, which is a 4-inch display. In addition to that, the iPhone’s case will be a “super-thin plastic casing mixed with glass fiber.” How super thin? Kuo believes it’ll measure between 0.4 and 0.6 millimeters.
Kuo also believes multiple colors will be available for the cheap iPhone with Apple expected to offer anywhere between four and six color options, which of course includes the iPhone’s current white and black colors. Considering how long Apple has been offering multiple colors for its iPod brand of devices, we’re not sure why the company has yet to offer something for its iPhone brand.

We’ve been hearing a number of stories in regards to the existence of a low-budget iPhone for months now. A number of analysts not only believe a budget iPhone does exist, but a number of them believe we could be seeing it debut as early as this summer. Another analyst is making some noise today saying a cheap iPhone launching this summer makes sense.
