The G-Pad turns your smartphone into a Game Boy

G-Pad
Getting a Game Boy growing up was certainly a defining moment. You could play all the games you wanted, and the only thing to stop you would be the batteries dying. It is a marvelous age, that we can now play a huge variety of games on our phone. The only major difference being that your D-pad, A, B, start, and select buttons are flat.

There are of course, a huge variety of games out there that don’t have these controls such as racing games or Angry Birds. If you primarily play phone games like Mario, Sonic, or Donkey Kong that do have those controls though, then you know how important that tactile feedback is (it’s nice for all games, but a smartphone can only do so much). If you wish you could get back that glorious feeling of button-mashing, then the G-Pad is here to help. This is a lightweight silicone rubber phone cover that will give you squishy buttons. This is mainly meant for iPhone gamers who are tired of being at a disadvantage because they can’t feel if they’re on top of the buttons or not.

While this is a great idea, it is a bit specific in its audience. If a game doesn’t have this button comp, then you’ll have to take this off and have one more thing to stash in your bag. They’re not terribly expensive at around $13, but they are for a niche audience.

Grush is tackling a new market – the gaming toothbrush

Grush

Getting kids to do things they have to do like cleaning or washing up is about as much fun as pulling teeth for either side. The best way to get kids to do something is to make it into a game. Assign points, or use a rewards system and they’re suddenly ready to get things done.

It’s looking like someone took “making it into a game” seriously, as the Grush is coming into creation. This is a toothbrush that works alongside an app which will have kids brush away monsters on the screen of a phone or tablet, by brushing their teeth in real life. This is a motion sensing game wand controller that can track things like stroke, intensity, rotation, and gestures. There is a Grush Cloud that will store all of the brushing information, which means parents and dentists alike will have instant access to brushing antics.

The games that it comes with it are varied, in that you can chase away monsters, care for virtual pets, fly planes, and more. This will work with Android or iOS devices, and will provide a score or “Grush factor” based on the quality of your brushing technique. This is currently a crowdfunding campaign, but you can get the Grush, access to the Cloud, and all the games for $30-45 if you’re speedy. It does come with two replacement heads, but there’s a chance that you’re going to need more than that over the years. Of course, just because this is aimed at kids doesn’t mean it’s strictly for them. If you’d like to make everything you do in life a game, then there’s no shame in getting a Grush for yourself.

Kolibree – Your Dental Health, Now on the Net

Packshot Brosse à dent Kolibree

Do we all remember learning how to brush our teeth? In my day that meant those little red disclosing tablets that you would chew, and they would leave bright red stains on the teeth you neglected. My kiddo should know how to brush, but I’m not sure she gets the consequences of not doing it properly. Of course modern technology has a solution…Check out Kolibree, a cool new gadget designed to help you brush smarter. Used like your regular toothbrush, Kolibree sends real-time data directly to your smartphone. Easily check to see if you’ve brushed for long enough, or brushed in all the right places, using intelligent sensors and connected technology. Yup, its a Bluetooth toothbrush with a nifty associated app.

Kolibree’s toothbrush actually contains a sensor that can track the areas of your mouth that you’re brushing, and it lets you know what sections might need a little more attention. The toothbrush measures how often, and for how long you spend brushing and, if you’re not gettin’ it done, you’ll get a low brushing score. Good for kids and adults alike, Kolibree will help anyone who cares about their smile, to brush smarter.

Kolibree tells us that it’s an open platform, which means they can create limitless digital dental experiences through the use of creative apps, including games, music & video apps, healthcare & well-being apps, even interactions with your dentist. I think Kolibree will do more for kids learning to brush their teeth than a musical toothbrush and an egg timer ever did. Watch for the Kickstarter campaign sometime this summer… they’re expected to price out between 100 and 200 bucks depending which one you get.  It seems like brushing your teeth might never be the same. To sign up for notices, or for more info, visit kolibree.com.

Kids’ Zipline delivers some outdoor fun

kids-ziplineKids these days tend to spend a whole lot of time in the virtual world, instead of exploring the real world outdoors. Take away smartphones and tablets from a summer camp, and chances are you will see more restless kids than usual who have not gotten used to solitude and quietness in the middle of the woods. Well, how about getting them reacquainted with the real world with the $199.99 Kids’ Zipline? It allows you to place a zipline in your backyard, a campground, a park, or wherever decent enough for it, and is capable of supporting a kid of up to 250 lbs. I guess adults, too, are able to give it a go.

The Kids’ Zipline would feature an easily removable seat to boot, and it targets those who are aged 7 and above. It also boasts of a specially designed hardware bracket that enables both rope and seat length to change in order to make an adjustment for different riders’ height. It is nice to know that it arrives fully assembled, although it will require more than a single person to set it up. Just make sure that it is anchored to a healthy tree that measures at least 12” in diameter. Geronimo!

Transforming Hulk breaks out in a surprise

transforming-hulkHulk is the strongest one there is, and the madder Hulk gets, the stronger he is! Boy, the Jade Giant must be pretty peeved if he were to actually break his way out of this unique battle scene, being a toy for Hulk fans of all ages. All right, for fans of Bruce Banner’s alter ego as long as they are aged 5 or older, no thanks to the numerous small parts and pieces of this toy. The $13.99 Transforming Hulk is a unique toy actually – you basically set up the refillable tank with the city scene and a container that holds a tiny Hulk.

He’s tiny, literally, and as you add some water, Hulk will do what he does best – outgrow everything that he wears except for his extremely stretchable pants, where he will then burst out through the “container” like a Chestburster after two days, growing to a full sized incensed Hulk in five days. It is more or less a slow motion, controlled Hulkout, and when he is done, you can always “reset” the scenario by draining the water out. 5 days, eh? This could start to look like a decent desk calendar of sorts at work.

Assassin’s Creed Hidden Blade Replica needs mad skills to make it realistic

assasins_creed_hidden_blade_replicaVideo games are definitely fun to play, and from time to time, you might even wish that you could end up in the shoes of the game’s protagonist, wielding all the power as well as magic (in some titles) as you go about saving the world. For those who love the Assassin’s Creed storyline, there is nothing quite like working stealthily behind the scenes, and there is one particular signature weapon of the heroic Assassins – the deadly hidden blade. The next time you decide to cosplay Assassin’s Creed, you might want to make sure that you have the $39.99 Assassin’s Creed Hidden Blade Replica as part of your costume’s repertoire.

This signature weapon that has dealt death to many in the game looks like the real deal, until you realize that the “metal” is not actually metal upon touch. How does it work to extend its brand of realism to the world? A hairpin trigger gets the job done, and it is also good news that the Assassin’s Creed Hidden Blade Replica comes with a safety so that it will also prevent accidental instances of setting it off.

Star Wars Light-Up Lightsaber Pens brings the Force to the classroom

lightsaber-pensGoing to school does have its fair amount of pressure among the students, as well as the kind of perception that society and advertising companies place subtly in their minds. One aspect of my schooling years that I absolutely loved was the fact that I could get a new set of stationeries at each new year. Don’t you find it liberating that you can write with a brand new pen or pencil at the start of a new term? Why not let your little ones do so in style with the $19.99 Star Wars Light-Up Lightsaber Pen, where you can pick from all three by forking out $49.99.

Not only do these unique Lightsaber Pens work like a regular writing instrument, they are also capable of lighting up just like the real deal. The thing is, they cannot cut through any physical material or organic matter, since these are not the actual Jedi weapon from the space opera that we have all come to know and love. The light within will light up at the press of a button or when you write, but do take note that the batteries within are non-replaceable, so it would be best to use the light up feature sparingly.
