The aptly-named 100 Walls Church in Cebu, Philippines, is like an architectural Rorschach test: From far away, it looks like shards of shale rock rearranged by an extreme rationalist. Up close, it’s something closer to an oversized geometric maze. CAZA Architects, who designed the building, describe it on their site as "a Stegosaurus doing yoga." Namaste.
Construction on the Basilica of Our Lady of Peace of Yamoussoukro, the largest church on earth, started 28 years ago in the small Ivory Coast city of Yamoussoukro. Planned by then-president Félix Houphouët-Boigny, who led the country through two decades of economic boomtime known as the "Ivorian miracle," the church would be a monument—to God, but also to himself.
If you opened a 101-year-old time capsule and found a mysterious package addressed to the descendants of an unknown man, would you open it? That’s the question a church in Michigan now faces after they recently cracked open a time capsule from 1912, and found something they couldn’t quite explain.
Stealing computers is bad—everybody already knows that. And stealing from a church (or any non-profit institution for that matter) is extra bad. But if you must steal a computer from a church—especially one you’re a member of—don’t call up the software blocking company and ask if they’ll remove the porn filter. As Troy Ridling of Owasso, Oklahoma found out the hard way, you’re not going to like the answer.
After watching all of the Star Wars films too many times to remember, we’re sure you’re aware Jedis can do some pretty cool things. A proposed legislation is up for voting in Scotland that will make it possible for a Jedi officiant to say whatever Jedi vows they share, which we’re sure something about fighting the Sith is in there somewhere. You probably weren’t aware that a little fifteenth century Roman Catholic church called Chapelle De Bethleem has a gremlin problem. The church is hidden in the forest about 20km away from Nantes France. Probably to keep from infesting others with the beasts. You see, the church is covered in these devious creatures.
The idea of gargoyles is to scare off intruders, while protecting those that they guard from any evil or harmful spirits. This church accomplishes this in a very geeky way. But it is protected by more than just evil gremlins, and cute and cuddly Gizmo.
This church also has an Alien protecting it, just in case. Who needs God when you have all of these geeky guardians?
