Elecom Scented Touchscreen Cleaners: Ain’t Nobody as Nerdy, My Screen So Fresh So Clean

I’m okay with using a microfiber cloth to clean the display on my gadgets and my computer. But if your nose is sensitive enough that it can smell the oil, dirt and whatever substance is left on your screen, watch out for Elecom’s new touchscreen cleaners. Aside from containing germ-killing ethanol and dirt-scrubbing surfactant, they also have various fragrances.

The scented cleaners are sold in either small spray-on bottles or equally tiny wet microfiber cloths. But even if you get the spray-on cleaner, Elecom recommends that you spray them on a piece of clean cloth first then apply the cloth to your gadget’s screen instead of spraying the cleaner on your screen directly. Probably because some of the liquid might find its way inside your gadget.

Elecom will make the cleaners available in Japan starting this month. The tissue will sell for ¥640 (~$6  USD) for a pack of 5 tissues while a 7ml bottle of the liquid cleaner will go for ¥1,323 (~$13). If that sounds too expensive to you, there are lots of guides online about mixing your own screen cleaning solution. Maybe you can add a fragrance to those recipes. Or the scent of a new computer. Or booger bits. Whatever floats your boat.

If you are like a lot of guys, not only might your computer or touch panel need some cleaning, but your stuff may not be smelling as fresh as it could.

Now, there may be something for you. Elecom is releasing a touch panel cleaner with fragrance in late May.

There are 2 kinds:
– “Spray type” (P-FCS)
– “Tissue type” (P-FCT5P)

These cleaners remove finger prints, dirt, etc. from screens, tablets, smart phones, etc. and also add some refreshing scent to your screen. 10 kinds of scents are available.

Fragrance types:
rose, lavender, grapefruit, lemongrass, fresh fruit, musk, fruity vanilla, green tea, wood, soap

Price: ¥1,323 (including tax)

Automee S: A Roomba for Touchscreens

At the 2013 Tokyo Gift Show, Takara Tomy unveiled a toy that’s at the cusp of being practical. The company calls it the Automee S, a tiny disk-shaped robot designed to clean the touchscreens on mobile devices. iRobot has nothing to worry about for now.

While the Roomba has brushes and a vacuum motor, the AutoMee S does its job using tiny cleaning pads. It also has sensors that detect edges and help it clean a screen evenly. According to Newlaunches, the Automee S can clean a tablet’s screen in about 8 minutes, which is depressingly long for a cleaning robot, but is just an endearing affectation for a toy. The Automee S will go on sale in Japan on March for ¥1,575 (~$17 USD). It’s so stupid. I want one.

Colocolo Tablet Cleaner Rolls iPads Clean

Do you constantly get greasy fingerprints all over the screen of your shiny glass tablet? If you’re like me, you probably just wipe it off with your shirt sleeve or maybe an eyeglass cleaning cloth. But if you’re looking for something that’s designed specifically for the task, then check out the Colocolo tablet cleaner.

Looking like one of those masking tape lint rollers your use to remove pet hair, or maybe a Schticky, you roll the Colocolo across the screen of your tablet to remove dirt, grime and fingerprints. The sticky tape surface on the Colocolo is said to work for about 500 cleanings before you need to buy a refill, and is specially designed to mop up oils from fingerprints.

If your shirt sleeve isn’t doing the trick, you can order the Colocolo over at Gizmine for $29.99(USD), though if you happen to live in Japan, it can be had for ¥1260 ($16 USD), and refills sell for ¥525 (~$7 USD). It comes in three colors, white, black and pink, making you wonder why all lint rollers don’t offer color choices.

A colocolo, by the way, is a small spotted and striped cat native to the west Andean slope in central and northern Chile, so the name makes perfect sense, no? Not unless there’s a cat included in the box that’ll lick your tablet’s screen clean.
