Star Trek Enterprise Projection Alarm Clock tells time in the here and now

enterprise-projection-clockBetween Star Trek and Star Wars, which of the science fiction franchises do you prefer? I personally like the latter, although the movie reboot in recent years has also reignited my interest in Star Trek. The ships in Star Wars are way cooler, including the mammoth Death Star, but in Star Trek, it is comforting to see an effort being made by humanity as well as other alien life form to explore new worlds in a non-invasive manner. Being discreet is the keyword here. Here is the $49.99 Star Trek Enterprise Projection Alarm Clock that would be the perfect addition to any Trekkie’s room or office table.

The NCC-1701 will be able to tell you just what time it is, as it projects the time on a wall or ceiling. Nacelles will light up whenever the alarm goes off, and your eyes will be able to tell the exact time since all of the digital numbers are projected in large, red figures. Not only that, sounds from the original series will also be played back accordingly. Surely this would be the ideal alarm clock that is also futuristic to a certain extent in your home? It comes with a 5 minute snooze function, plays back sounds such as red alert, photon torpedos, and Kirk calling from the Bridge, and will be powered by a quartet of LR44 button cell batteries.

Star Trek Deep Space Nine Clock: Tell Time in the Alpha Quadrant

I’m a big fan of Star Trek, but I actually must admit I only watched a few episodes of Deep Space Nine. I think I was too busy watching The Next Generation and Voyager at the time, and that was enough for me. But even if I’m no expert at DS9, I can certainly recognize their space station in an instant.

If you’re a big fan of Captain Sisko and his crew, you might just want to decorate your room with this Deep Space Nine wall clock.

The clock started out as a rare Star Trek toy, and was converted into a clock by Etsy seller YOUgNeek. The underlying clock mechanism is a Sterling and Noble clock, with silver hands that match the painted ship perfectly. Unfortunately, you have to try and read the clock hands behind the ship – I was really hoping the entire ship turned to form the hands of the clock.

Either way, it’s a pretty cool addition to any DS9 fanatic’s collection. It’s available for $199.99(USD) over on Etsy. Perhaps you trade some dilithium crystals with Quark and he’ll sell you one.

Vectorscope Clock Mod: from Chroma to Chronon

Oscilloclock shop owner Aaron’s latest offering is based on a vectorscope, a special kind of oscilloscope used to analyze the quality of television or video signals. Like its brethren, the digital age has reduced the need for vectorscopes, but Aaron can make them useful again as clocks.

Like his other oscilloclocks – one of which we featured last year – the VectorClock uses Aaron’s custom controller board, which draws shapes on the screen by drawing circles, with certain parts of the CRT screen blanked out depending on the desired shape or character. Aaron is proud of this particular build, which is based on a Tektronix 520A vectorscope, because he was able to use nearly all of its exisiting circuits, thus minimizing internal modifications.

As you’ll see in the demo video below, the VectorClock can display the time and date in a variety of ways. It also has dimmable lighting and can even display words.

It looks like something you’ll find at the Darkwaters General Store. Contact Aaron if you want him to build you a VectorClock. He probably doesn’t accept bottle caps as payment.

Written Reminder Alarm Clock ensures your poor memory is no longer an excuse

reminder-alarm-clockEveryone needs a decent alarm clock to wake up to. After all, most of us have a day job to stick to, and it would be nuts to actually go to work late every single day simply because one found it extremely difficult to wake up in the mornings after partying especially hard at night. Of course, most folks would just stick to the standard issue alarm clock, but how about trying something else with the $29.95 Written Reminder Alarm Clock?

This unique alarm clock will not only be able to tell you the time, not to mention giving you a nice “wake up call”, so to speak, at the right time which you have set beforehand, but it is also able to illuminate the written reminders on its integrated dry-erase board whenever the alarm sounds in the morning. It is perfect to remind you of the day’s appointments or to do list, as well as do the same right before you knock off for the night. The timepiece’s clear plastic board will offer a 5.5” wide and 2.75” tall writing surface, and whenever the alarm goes off or when the top of the board is tapped, the clock’s internal LED will glow so that any message inscribed using the included blue-ink dry-erase pen can be read.

Video Surveillance Clock acts as a modern day palantir

video-surveillance-clockI am quite sure that NSA agents are all too familiar with the habit of spying on others, which is why they would not give two hoots about something like the Video Surveillance Clock. For ordinary folks like you and I, sitting right there in the comfort of our homes, knowing that the clock on the desk or inside the cabinet comes with a hidden camera feature can be comforting. After all, it lets you check out just what is going on at home whenever you are not around, and whether that maid of yours is canoodling up with your neighbor or not.

The asking price of $149.95 is not too much either, considering how this particular analog clock comes with a built-in, motion-activated video surveillance camera which is capable of recording not only video but audio as well, making it the ideal tool to inconspicuously monitor a room or office. The video quality will not be in Full HD resolution, but it still does a pretty decent job thanks to its image sensor being able to capture 720 x 480 resolution video in a 62º angle from nine feet away, with the sensitive microphone being able to pick up sound from 16′ away. Still photos can also be shot at 1,280 x 960 resolution. Each purchase comes with a 4GB microSD memory card that is good for up to 6 hours of video, and its battery delivers a 1.5 hour video recording session.

Luminescent Moon Clock offers a romantic way to tell the time

moonclockHave you ever gone to the great outdoors, where there is no light pollution at all to spoil the view of the night sky, allowing you to check out plenty of stars along the way? Of course, during a full moon, the entire orchestra of the cosmos looks even more stunning, and it surely brings a sense of awe and wonder to the world. If you were sitting out in the open field with your loved one, it is definitely worth snapping a photo of that romantic moment. However, with our current hectic lifestyles, finding a break is getting more and more difficult, so why not bring the moon to your room with the $49.95 Luminescent Moon Clock?

As the name of this timepiece suggests, this wall clock will glow in the night, sporting the face of the full moon. It will rely on the most recent glow-in-the-dark technology, allowing it to absorb enough energy during daylight hours so that it ends up giving out a soft, ethereal light in a darkened room for up to 4 hours each night. The lunar image itself has been printed to the back of the flat glass face so that there is no possibility of scratching happening. You will also be able to check out the broad impact basin of Mare Imbrium in the vicinity of 12-o’clock, the Sea of Tranquility at 3-o’clock, and the Tycho crater at 7-o’clock. Of course, for easier viewing of the time, even the clock’s hands will glow in the dark.

Click Cube Clocks tell the time in a fun way

cube-clock-clickAre all clocks created equal? The answer is definitely not, but I would assume that for the most of us, we would happily settle for a simple digital or analog clock that sits on our desk, hang on the living room wall, or simply refer to the wristwatch that we wear all the time. How about adding more functions to your everyday timepiece? This is what the £29.99 Click Cube Clocks is all about, as it will arrive in black and walnut shades from early next month onward to make it a candidate for your Christmas shopping list.

For starters, the Click Cube Clocks would be able to let you tell the time at a glance, unlike those Tokyoflash watches that require you to perform some sort of mental calculation before arriving at the exact minute. Not only that, the Click Cube Clocks do more than just tell the time, as they are also able to show the temperature and date. Teenagers and sleep lovers will be pleased to know that a snooze function has also been thrown into the mix to accompany the alarm, letting you sleep in a little bit longer, while the lack of wires translate to you being able to place it just about anywhere you like without the risk of tripping over. The magic of the Click Cube Clock lies in the fact that the time will be displayed at the snap of your fingers, or when you tap the bedside table it is on gently.

Hands Free Gear Clock tells the time in style

handsfree-gear-clockThere are clocks, and then there are clocks. Instead of the boring old $4 clock from Ikea that seems to have made its way to every home around, how about trying out something that is totally different? Why not have a timepiece in your home that will be able to tell the time in style? This is what the $99.95 Hands Free Gear Clock is all about, and motorheads should be able to appreciate the existence of such a timepiece. This is one wall clock that boasts of tiny moving gears which will rotate a large outer sprocket, telling the time as it is.

Ditching the traditional hands in favor of a simple arrow, this is one industrial timepiece that will point via the arrow to the current time on the large, outer dial, where the latter would be able to perform a full revolution twice a day. It will be powered by the quartet of fixed internal spur gears, and the large clock measures nearly 2′ in diameter, where it sports bold numbers that are easy to read from a distance, while offering submarkings at each 15-minute interval. Made out of durable, lightweight ABS with a metallic finish, mounting it on any wall surface is a snap. You won’t have to fill it up with motor oil though, as it is powered by a pair of D batteries.

You Could Live Inside the World’s Largest Cuckoo Clock

Cuckoo clocks are pretty amazing. I’m always fascinated by the engineering inside of them. They keep pretty good time too. Plus, all authentic cuckoo clocks are made by hand, so each one is unique. It is a fine tradition of craftsmen that are super talented. And now we have the world’s largest cuckoo clock, which is as big as a house.

cuckoo clockmagnify

According to Guinness World Records, this is the biggest cuckoo clock in the world and it is in Triberg, Germany. Of course. It’s a traditional Black Forest cuckoo clock design scaled up 60 times the size of the original. This clock weighs six tons.

cuckoo clock1magnify

The cuckoo bird itself is 4.5 meters long and weighs 150 kilograms. Like the real thing, this clock is made of wood and was carved entirely hand. The cuckoo calls once every quarter hour and then chimes every hour.

Unless you really like Cuckoo clocks, the sound would probably drive you nuts if you heard it all day.

ALARMclock Shows How Much Money, Friends and Time You Have Left: Rude Awakening

While most alarm clocks try to wake you up with sight, sound or a combination of both, the ALARMclock sticks to facts. Sure, it’ll bleep and blare like any other clock when you set a time, but this clock will make you want to spend time more wisely in general. How? By bumming you out.

alarmclock by fig companymagnify

Designed by Chicago-based Fig Company, ALARMclock connects via Wi-Fi to a mobile app, which is where you’ll enter your login credentials to your bank account or social networks. You can set it to display your 401k, savings or investment amount, as well as an “an aggregate number which represents the scope and size of your social world.” If that’s not enough to get you to move your ass, you can also make it work like the Tikker and display how many days you have left based on your “age, health, lifestyle, diet, family history and other factors.”

It’s as beautiful as it is grim. Pledge at least $85 (USD) on Kickstarter to get an ALARMclock as a reward.
