Pac-Man Coffee Table Made from Old VHS Tapes: Be Kind, Rewakka!

If you have a ton of old VHS tapes laying around, why not make some furniture out of them. Specifically, something like this Pac-Man coffee table. Those tape spools on the back of the tapes make perfect dots for the maze.

This table is the work of Etsy seller MRQ19. It’s a clever way to put all of those old VHS tapes to good use.

It has a sheet of wood underneath to reinforce it, though I’m not sure how sturdy it would be. It looks like it is not very thick. The important thing is that it looks awesome and will be great in your retro game room.

Washing Machine Drums Make Good Coffee Tables

Can you imagine how many busted washing machines there are in the world? We need to start doing something with all of those parts. The art studio L’Atelier d’Orel is on the case. They upcycle all kinds of old objects into fresh artful pieces of furniture.

Some of these projects include taking the spinning drums from washing machines and turning them into coffee tables and bar cabinets. And they look fantastic. The artist even offers workshops on how to make these yourself. They look really impressive considering what they are made from.

So if you have a broken down washing machine, get to work and make something cool.

Ouija Board Rug and Coffee Table: Spirited Living Room Decor

Are you looking for a rug and coffee table that can channel spirits from the great beyond? If so, check out this conceptual Ouija board rug and coffee table from the mind of Dave Delisle of Dave’s Geek Ideas. I bet if you put your feet on that planchet, it will just tell you to vacuum, or complain about rings from your drink glasses because you didn’t use a coaster.

It’s some pretty cool and spooky decor. Just be careful about what kinds of ghosts you talk to. You might make your home the next Amityville Horror house. They wish they had a rug and coffee table this cool in that house. Maybe that’s why it was so pissed. Those homeowners were just slobs.

Anyway, maybe one day you can buy this. Sadly, right now it is just a concept.

Giant Coffee Table Touchscreen Computer

giant-coffee-table-touchscreenNot all coffee tables are created equal – the $7,000 Giant Coffee Table Touchscreen Computer can certainly attest to that, otherwise, how else would it be able to come with such an insane price tag, so much so that you could buy a decent second hand car with that kind of money? Well, there must be something about this particular coffee table that would require you to fork out some serious coin for it, other than the fact that it would fit in nicely into any living room regardless of the decoration around it.

The bulk of the money would go into the innards of this particular coffee table, where a fully functional Windows 8 computer has been incorporated within, alongside a 32″ touch screen display, which makes this ideal for checking out enlarged photos or maps, in addition to playing games (simple ones would be best, especially those that require a touchscreen display), or enabling multiple users to comfortably view the same data from the couch without missing a beat. On top of the table lies an anti-glare LCD screen which functions in the same way as that of a tablet – albeit at a far larger size. Other features include half a dozen touch points which pave the way for easy navigation, apart from 1,366 x 768 resolution. It will be powered by an Intel Core i5 3.2GHz processor, 6GB RAM, a 500GB hard drive, sports a quartet of USB ports, DVI, audio-out, and microphone ports, a 1GB graphics card, Wi-Fi- and Bluetooth connectivity.

Steampunk Nintendo Controller Coffee Table: NESSSS

Here’s a coffee table that would go well with the steampunk NES. It was made by Charles Lushear of Bohemian Workbench using found items. I wouldn’t disagree if you think it’s more junkyard than steampunk, but either way it’s an impressive piece.

The cedar wood tabletop used to be part of a fence, the A and B buttons are antique clock movements and the Start and Select buttons are vintage rifle magazines. But the most intriguing part is the directional pad.

Apparently that piece of metal is a Katanga cross or a handa, a copper cross that was used as a form of currency in the Democratic Republic of Congo from the 19th to the 20th century. Katanga Katanga cross, y’all.

Lushear is selling it on his Etsy shop for $2,600 (USD). That’s a lot of Katanga crosses.

cat coffee table

This clever coffee table incorporates a stretchy and soft woven cat hammock underneath, so kitty can rest comfortably under your feet, without being under foot.

This table was designed a couple of years ago by Koichi Futatsumata for Case-Real, and it can be ordered from E&Y for the rather princely sum of ¥199,000 (~$2118 USD). For those of us who don’t feel like spending two grand on our cats, you can always just buy them a Cat Crib.

X-Wing Coffee Table

Is this the ultimate nerd coffee table or what? Barry Shields has spent a good chunk of his time to get fanboys of Star Wars, especially of the X-Wing starfighter, to construct a coffee table that is functional, timeless and beautiful. Taking nearly half a year to carve it out from scratch to its finish, you can be sure that this is one sturdy coffee table, but we warned – the glass can break, as the deflector shields on this thing does not seem to be operational.

According to Barry, both the top and bottom halves which sandwich the glass have been bolted together, so should you bump into it by accident while walking by, it will still remain intact. The front itself comes with 3 points of support contact with the glass, so that whenever the glass moves from bumping and the front landing gear moves, the support arms will still remain intact with the glass. Careful attention is paid to the X-Wing, as the bottom of of the ship is just as detailed as the top. A combination of poplar, pine and black walnut wood is used to ensure that the final product is easy on the eyes, but not too popular with the wallet with its $5,500 price point. Ah well, at least you know this is custom made and one of a kind.

X-Wing Fighter Coffee Table: Stay on Target!

Alright kid, let’s blow this thing and go home… Check out this awesome X-Wing Fighter coffee table made from wood and glass. It looks stunning and it took Sean Regan and Aubrey Cohen 6 months to make it, carving it from a few hunks of wood.

xwing table

I love how dimensional it is, because the top half and bottom half hold the glass between them. That makes it look pretty sweet and also keeps it sturdy. You can try to make one yourself if you want, but I doubt it will look half as good.

If you were to pay for it, at a cost of about $14 an hour, this would cost in the neighborhood of $60,500. You could probably buy a real X-Wing Fighter for that – at least a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.
