It’s the morning on the west coast, and this announcement came right on time. None of us here at Ubergizmo like to grind the coffee, which can be hazardous for geeky fingers controlled by a 65% operational brain in the (late) morning. Of course, the high-tech solution to that may be a one-touch coffee machine such as this KRUPS Barista EA9000 that comes with a large touch screen color display. It can handle Black (ristretto, espresso, or coffee) or Specialty, milk-based (cappuccinos, café lattes, macchiato) coffee drinks and up to 8 users can save their personal preferences (for quantity, strength, and temperature).

Some of us are coffee enthusiast, and although we like the high-tech aspect of this particular machine, we would also warn that when it comes to reliability, simpler is better. Without having tested this in the field, it’s hard to tell, but with a price tag of $2499.99, reading a few reviews may be worth your time.

The personalization is probably what sets it apart from regular models. Reliability apart, we also advice looking at how often one has to fill the water tank. That’s particularly valid if the machine is not place near a water source. Such devices rinse often, so a lot of the water is used for cleaning as well. What do you think? I lived in New Orleans for a number of years, so I’m actually quite familiar with the taste of turtle soup. It’s actually not bad – mainly because all of the creole seasonings pretty much drown out the flavor of the turtles who gave their lives for the stuff. Frankly I much prefer alligator soup – since it tastes like chicken. From the look of Rafael’s expression on this TMNT soup mug, he’s none to pleased with the idea of turtle soup either.

Raphael would much rather have you fill his oversize 24oz. head-mug with some cream of mushroom, chicken noodle, or maybe even a giant cup of coffee. Actually, he’d really like you to eat some pizza in a cup in it.

Ninja Turtles fans can pre-order the mug over at Entertainment Earth for $9.99(USD), and it should ship sometime this March.

Coffee shops make it easier to grab some of your favorite brew on the go by setting up drive-thru windows. But why should you go there to get your coffee, when you can make the coffee (sort of) come to you ? The answer is, you shouldn’t.

Velopresso is a mobile coffee-making machine that’s driven by pedal power. I think you can say that it is basically a coffee shop on wheels. Think of them as baristas on bikes – or more accurately, baristas on trikes. Velopresso won’t be able to serve you any waffles or sandwiches at this point, but it’s all geared up to serve you a hot cup of latte, espresso, or cappuccino, thanks to its gas-powered espresso machine and pedal-driven burr grinder.

It was designed by Royal College of Art graduates Amos Field Reid and Lasse Oiva, and has been honored with a design award from the Deutsche Bank and has placed second in a competition hosted by prestigious Italian design house Pininfarina.

Since Velopresso is still on its prototype stages, you might have to wait a while for your cup of Joe. Its makers expect to start taking pre-orders for the production version in early Summer 2013.
